Real Fake Love (Copper Valley Fireballs #2)
If people have polar opposites, Luca Rossi is mine. His butt is in the baseball hall of fame. Mine’s comfortably seated in the hall of lame. When he’s not snagging fly balls out in center field, he’s modeling in shampoo commercials. I once jammed my own finger while stirring cookie dough, and sometimes I forget shampoo is a thing. He’s a total cynic when it comes to love.I make a living writing love stories. But after my latest broken engagement (no, I don’t want to talk about how many times that’s happened), it’s clear he’s exactly the man I need.If anyone can teach me to be the opposite of me, it’s him.The first thing I want him to teach me?How to not fall in love. And as luck would have it, he’s in desperate need of a fake girlfriend to get a meddling grandmother off his back.We couldn’t be more perfect together, because the last thing Luca Rossi will ever be is the next man to leave me at the altar.Or will he?Real Fake Love is a line drive straight to the heart featuring a grumpy athlete, a jilted bride, a fake relationship, and the world’s laziest cat. It stands alone and comes complete with sibling rivalry, the world’s most awkward shower scene, and a sweetly satisfying happily ever after.

Author's note, 3 days before release:Okay, total behind-the-curtain confession here:I've written over 30 books, and until REAL FAKE LOVE, I resisted writing a romance novelist heroine. (I did write a children's book author once, but never a romance novelist heroine.) But when Henri strolled into my brain, she was like, "THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. THIS IS WHO I AM." And so now, I've written my first romance novelist heroine. And I adore her. And not just because she and I share a few writing quirks. And so now, I've written my first romance novelist heroine. And I adore her. And not just because she and I share a few writing quirks. (I wonder if you can guess which ones...) I hope you fall in love with her very soon too!!Author's note, 2 weeks before release:It's getting so close, I can almost taste it! I keep basking in my love for Henri, our intrepid heroine, this week as advanced review copies have gone out to bloggers. She's the sunshine to Luca's grumpy face, faced with so much heartbreak but still forging ahead, and I freaking adore her. I can't wait for you to meet Henri and Luca and watch them fight their attraction as they pretend to date!!Author's note, 3 weeks before release:I can't wait for you to meet Luca Rossi! He's so grumpy about love. And about his Nonna moving in. And about that thing with the ziti. And about Henri moving in too. With her cat.Basically, his entire life is spiraling out of control. And I LOVE IT!! I can't wait for you to read it too!Author's note, 30 days before release:Recent conversation with my hubby:Me: "OMG, REAL FAKE LOVE IS GETTING CLOSER!"Him: "Is this the one with the gophers?"Me: "Gophers? No. I haven't written a book about gophers. What are you talking about?"Him: "Oh. I meant the armadillo."Me: "Are you trolling me about the team mascot options in the Fireballs series?"Him: "Who, me? No. Never. I think it's awesome that you've made your entire readership furious with you for what you did to Fiery the Dragon in Jock Blocked."Me: "It's not that bad."Him: "You have an imaginary dragon trolling you on Instagram over this."Me: "Can we please talk about the fact that Henri's a freaking awesome heroine, that Mr. Good Hair/Bad Attitude doesn't want to fall in love, and the shower scene?"Him: "Maybe next month. I'm having too much fun right now watching you get trolled by that imaginary dragon."Author's note, 6 weeks before release:Can I tell you how much I love Henrietta Bacon, aka Henri, the heroine of REAL FAKE LOVE? She's had a bit of experience with being left at the altar, and... well, she stopped by my newsletter last week to offer some of her best advice on what not to do when you get dumped on your wedding day.A few of my favorites...10. DO NOT cut your hair. (You’d think this would be a “duh” thing, but… well, you’ll read Real Fake Love soon enough.)8. DO NOT eat all the wedding cake by yourself. Even if you don’t have to fit into another dress for the next forever and the waistline expansion doesn’t matter, the belly ache isn’t worth it. It’s too close to the heartache.5. If you ignore my advice about not eating all of the wedding cake all by yourself, your garter can be used as an emergency ponytail holder so you don’t get frosting in your hair. I mean, if you really care at that point.3. DO NOT take your honeymoon solo. It’s a recipe for thinking that the bartender in the cabana is cute, and the next thing you know, you have another engagement ring on your finger and you’re not entirely certain what his last name is or what was in the prenup he had you sign.Ahhh, Henri... I can't wait for you to meet her!! Coming September 3!Author's note, 8 weeks before release:The book is with the narrators!!! WOOT WOOT!! Also, all of my evil plans for the most amazing launch boxes ever are well underway, and soon, the Fireballs will take over the world.Okay, not really. But I'm super excited about the last special item going in the big boxes. In fact, every time I glance at the mock-up, I start giggling so hard I can't stop, because it captures a little part of the book SO WELL. Related: I'm sometimes really not right. The hero of Fireballs #2 visited the Pipster Report today to get grilled about his identity by some former Pippaverse heroes too, and he was remarkably closed-lipped about who he is. A small excerpt of the interview:Rhett (from The Hero and the Hacktivist): How much smaller is your ding-dong than mine?FIREBALLS #2 HERO: In the interest of not embarrassing you, I’m not answering that.Brooks (from Jock Blocked, and also Rhett’s brother): Oh, SNAP! Nice one, Fireball-mate. Here’s my question – I’m IN YOUR BOOK. And you were in mine. Why can’t I remember who you are?FIREBALLS #2 HERO: Pippa put a temporary amnesia spell on you. Go make out with Mackenzie. Then you won’t care that you can’t remember.Nick (from Charming as Puck): Can I go home and make out with Kami instead of asking you a question?FIREBALLS #2 HERO: Yes. You’re excused. Anyone else?Cooper Rock (currently only a side character, as far as we know): Wait, Pippa has amnesia spells? Are you like, ME, and I just can’t remember?FIREBALLS #2 HERO: If you have to ask…Author's note, 2.5 months before release:Things I love about this book:1. Cake fight2. The shower scene3. Lovable hot mess heroine4. Grumpy hero5. Baseball pants6. Plus everything elseAuthor's note, three months before release:Three words: More Fireballs Romance. These characters... OMG, they're cracking me up! And also tugging SO HARD on my heart strings. I'm revising this week, with the goal of writing THE END and getting it off to my editor. WOOT!!!

I spent the first 60% snort laughing and then the last 40% cycling between swooning and snort laughing. And this happens not just because of the couple, although Henri and Luca are amazing- funny, sweet, romantic but comedians at heart, but also because the whole cast of characters are hilarious and a true mishmosh of people who probably shouldn't work but do because they are family in heart. I absolutely loved being enmeshed in this world with old and new characters that feel familiar to me bec I spent the first 60% snort laughing and then the last 40% cycling between swooning and snort laughing. I absolutely loved being enmeshed in this world with old and new characters that feel familiar to me because they represent the people and, more importantly, the feelings that I wish to feel around me every day. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to read an early copy of this book.Back to the couple at hand. Henri has been through 5 engagements, only to have them end when she's dumped. Luca is anti-love so Henri asks Luca to teach her how to be anti-love as well. A series of events happen and they find themselves in a fake relationship but a real friendship. And watching how the friendship grows- the banter, the care, the little things that both do for each other- All the feels. Throw in the crazy Nonna (no one writes a better crazy grandmother than Pippa Grant), funny but supportive teammates and their women, a continued rivalry for the team mascot position, a costume wearing cat, and a very very clumsy heroine (totally reminds me of myself) who writes the most hilarious vampire/shifter novels, and this is a well-rounded rom-com full of heart.

More fun than a barrel of meatballs! Oh, how I loved Henri, Luca and Dogzilla! Pippa Grant’s books just keep getting better and better! More emotional, funnier, and sweeter! Henri is hands down my most favorite of Pippa’s heroines. She’s nutty in the best of ways! And Luca is just, ahhh, so swoony! I don’t have words to describe my love for this couple. This book is just too much fun!

Once again, a book from this clever, funny, talented author hits my device and my world comes to a screeching halt. I disappear into a delightfully zany, outrageous, fabulous world to spend the best hours of my entire week. Housework can kiss it, and you can get your own dang supper, because I’m reading Pippa. I disappear into a delightfully zany, outrageous, fabulous world to spend the best hours of my entire week. Housework can kiss it, and you can get your own dang supper, because I’m reading Pippa. And pity the poor sap who dares to interrupt my reading.Yes, what you’ve heard is true. Henrietta Bacon has been left at the alter for the fifth time. Yep. Fifth time. Part of me wonders how that's even possible and the other part can’t help being relieved that Henri escaped a lifetime of being known by a new hyphenated last name. Because while there some names Bacon would hyphenate adequately with, and there are some that would be an epic disaster. And Henri escaped such a disaster.Henri is in love with being in love (she's a romance author, after all) and needs to learn how not to fall in love. After some kindness shown to her by Luca Rossi the day she was dumped by Luca's “best" friend, and learning how anti love Luca is, Henri knows that he's just the man to teach her how not to fall in love. And Luca's Nonna giving him “The Eye," dooming him to fall in love and settle down, makes the baseball player realize having Henri around as a fake girlfriend just might beat Nonna at her own game.Admittedly, I adore this series and all the characters we've met so far, but Luca and Henri's story takes the wedding cake! Of course it's great to have more of Fireballs baseball, the teammates, and their number one fan, MacKenzie, but it's Henri's character that takes this book to the next level. Henri is really something special, and in a class all her own. She’s a lovely, quirky, endearing mess with a heart of gold and her flaws and insecurities on full display. She talks, a lot, rambles when she’s nervous, and her mind is a glorious thing to behold. And if I didn’t know better, I’d say Henri gives us a little glimpse into her creator’s mind, as well. Not to downplay Luca, because he's awesome, baseball pants aside. His camaraderie with the guys on the team is funny and heartwarming, in a macho, alpha way, of course, and underneath it all, his vulnerability sneaks into your heart and steals a piece of it before you even realize it’s happening. This book come with the standard Grant book warnings: don’t read in public, refrain from drinking while reading to avoid snorting your drink up your nose, and will result in uncontrollable, spontaneous barks of laughter. It’s not just funny. It's OMGee-my-gut-hurts-from-laughing and I-have-tears-streaming-down-my-face hysterical. No one does comedy in romantic comedies like Grant. She manages to put things together so perfectly she has me laughing out loud, blushing, and feeling my heart squeeze all at the same time. It’s the very best of emotional rides and I emerge from the crazy shenanigans and touching story only to realize my heart has been stolen, my soul imprinted, and I want to hold on to these characters forever. If you’re a Pippa fan, you’re already running to the 1-Click to start this phenomenal read. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure, believe me when I tell you this book will change your life. Or at least make you forget about your own crazy world for a few hours and leave you with a smile on your face and a happy sigh in your heart. Luca and Henri's story is special, so make sure you don’t miss this hilarious, hot, heartfelt read.

Real Fake Love is absolutely perfect!Henri is a five times jilted bride who somehow still find love and joy in life, and magnified that love and joy to those around her - spreads it unselfishly! She is a very successful paranormal romance writer who has a cat who loves wearing costumes and taking showers. Luca is a baseball fielder for the Copper Valley Fireballs who doesn’t believe in love. They meet when he is shamed by his mother in attending the wedding of a childhood classmate who planned his wedding around him possibly attending. The wedding doesn’t happen.Henri shows up on Luca’s doorstep several days after the non wedding asking him for lessons how to not fall in love. The next morning his Nonna shows up and gives him The Eye and freaks Luca out. He asks He to to fake being his girlfriend until the end of the season. The fake relationship between Henri and Luca, and the interaction between them and his teammates, family and friends is just gold. What happens over the next several weeks is the slow unveiling of exactly who these two characters are and why they are a perfect fit for each other. Henri has been so emotionally battered by her parents/family/ex fiancés that she doesn’t believe she deserves love. Luca doesn’t believe in love, but his actions are so full of love - he is so amazing. All of this amazing storytelling against the backdrop of the Fireballs fantastic baseball season, the mascot competition, appearances of and intersections with so many favorite characters makes this a savory feast for any Pippa Grant fan. Of course this is a Pippa book so the typical warnings apply: do not attempt to eat or drink while reading, especially if you are alone in the house - chocking May occur and you need someone to either give you the Heimlich maneuver or call 911! This book will be responsible for lots of laughter, snorting, a few tears, some tingling sensations, heart palpitations, and lots of cheers. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. I’m also damn happy to have the chance to read this fabulous book before release day!! Downside, I now have to wait for Pippa’s next book.

Hilarious! Snort-laugh-out-loud, make your sides hurt, hilarious fun!Pippa Grant gives us the best opposing forces in the grouchiest, grumpiest hero that you cannot help but love and matches him with the happiest, full of sunshine and sprinkles heroine that I'm fairly certain is Pippa's inner Id. Real Fake Love is such a good time you won't be able to keep yourself from smiling, laughing, and falling in love with Luca and Henri the entire way through.Henrietta Bacon loves love! She is a romance writer after all, so the world is painted in sunshine and rainbows. The fact that she's been left by five fiancé's on her wedding day is beginning to dim on view on love just a bit and to help her over the top libedo that can't seem to help falling in love with the next available man in line she seeks out help to NOT fall in love and she knows just the expert to help with her problem.Luca Rossi may seem like no stranger to losing, especially when he was traded to the team that was most known for losing. However, their team is actually having their best season in years. However, no matter how well a team is playing he's always the guy that gets traded, so forming attachments, getting close...yeah he isn't exactly what you call a warm and fuzzy kind of guy. When his Nonna shows up at his run down house ready for him to settle down Luca didn't really want to battle her, but he also wasn't ready to be pressured into any kind of relationship either. Was it fate that a certain romance writer showed up on his doorstep that day looking for her own help or was he already cursed? This entire book is filled with fun, no matter who is on the page. The main characters, secondary characters, past characters, imaginary characters (yeah that's right...Pippa can write a book with imaginary characters tucked right in and it's brilliant), everybody is crazy good. This book is like receiving unicorn dreams and puppy kisses.

Where to start with this book I’m really not sure. So I’ll just start with how I usually end with a book I love....I LOVED THIS BOOK. You’re crying” I suck in a shuddering breath that I feel in every cell of my body.....”Sometimes joy leaks out of my eyeballs”This is the essence of Henri Bacon. She talks a lot, she wants to stop falling in love and is determined to find out how. Henri sees the good in everything and goodness just pours of her. She feels inferior to others when actually she’s far superior. She’s looking for a helping hand to help her accomplish her goals. Enter Luca. Luca, a man with his own plan and view of life. He’s going to help Henri accomplish her goals. Or is he?I think Henri is my favorite heroine of Pippa’s so far and I didn’t think that was possible but when you read it you’ll know why. Luca is definitely my favorite hero of hers. Yes, if you like comedy, sensitivity and looking for something different this is the book for you. This is the second book in this series but it definitely can stand on it’s own. You will want to go back and read the other stories written by this author. If you have read the other books you will be happy to know you meet up with characters from books past. I didn’t want this book to end. It’s a book that brings smiles but also gets to dig deep into the heart and soul of what makes people who they become. I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Scars that not everyone can see, but Luca and Henri discover each others', try to heal and love them because, despite all the pain, it has brought them to this point. This book swept me away. There was so much hilarity, but then you'll stop and find those emotional moments. Those moments where the past suddenly has a grasp on the present and stops the joy. And gosh, how sweet Luca and Henri are in seeing that in each other and trying to help, to figure out a way forward. The way they move from unlikely people to ever meet to working together and then more and more just pulled me in and I could not stop reading, well, listening. The story pulls you in and makes you NEED to know the next chapter. And both their vulnerabilities from the past makes your heart ache for them, while the hilarious jokes make you break out in laughter. Also, finding out the results of the mascot contest? Perfection. And that is all I shall say. Lastly, the narration. Virginia and Jason embody Henri and Luca in a perfect way. They just are the characters and portray the humor, the vulnerability, the sheer hilarity, the tension and heat between them absolutely flawlessly. Simply, one of my favorite books of the year.

She’s so fun and instantly protective of Luca. Luca just wants to play baseball and there’s no room for love, but when the whirlwind known as Henri bursts into his life, he stands no chance against her. Their banter was hilarious and they were such a sexy, zany couple.Get reacquainted with Cooper Valley in this charming, fun story. Pippa Grant always brings a ton of laughs and a lot of heart to her stories and Real Fake Love is no exception.

I was grinning from ear-to-ear starting with the very first chapter.Real Fake Love is a charming romantic comedy featuring a jilted bride and the grumpy baseball player who agrees to teach her how to not fall in love. As is often the case with fake relationships, however, things get a bit complicated when real feelings get involved."Teaching her how to not fall in love feels like teaching a rainbow how to not sparkle. An unpredictable, chaotic, klutzy rainbow, but still a rainbow." Henri's thoughts are hard to follow at times, and there were a few plot points that prevented this from being a five-star read for me, but I still really enjoyed it. I don't want to give any spoilers, but if you find yourself slowing down, keep going. The end is worth it. This story delivers a perfectly satisfying happily ever after, just as promised. Henri falls in love. Not only with men, but with the world. Every. Single. Day."

I don't know how Pippa Grant keeps doing it, but every time I read another book, I'm surprised by her creativity, by the outrageousness that should be over the top but somehow is just right, and by the swoony heroes and the sassy heroines that are perfect for each other. Real Fake Love is another home run in my book (pun fully intended).Luca and Henri are all wrong on paper. They shoudn't work. Henri's always in love, and she's in love with love, and she lives, eats and breaths love, even though I don't know how Pippa Grant keeps doing it, but every time I read another book, I'm surprised by her creativity, by the outrageousness that should be over the top but somehow is just right, and by the swoony heroes and the sassy heroines that are perfect for each other. Real Fake Love is another home run in my book (pun fully intended).Luca and Henri are all wrong on paper. They shoudn't work. Henri's always in love, and she's in love with love, and she lives, eats and breaths love, even though love keeps doing her wrong in her life. She's a romance novelist with the worst luck in her love life. Luca thinks love is for suckers, and he's determined to never fall in love. He's a grumpy anti-love devotee. Henri turns to Luca to learn how not to fall in love, and he turns to Henri to get away from his meddling Nonna's love-inducing curse.Honestly, Luca and Henri are perfect for each other. Henri doesn't need to learn how not to fall in love, she just needs to learn what real love actually is, and so does Luca. They certainly get more than they bargained for when they team up to help each other out. Add to it the lovable guys on the Copper Valley Fireballs, Luca's crazy family, Henri's supremely lazy, supremely costumed cat, and the shenanigans in Pippa's imagination, and you get the most hysterical few hours of reading that you will experience this year. You will laugh, and then you'll laugh again, and you'll laugh some more. This is the book you're looking for it you're looking for a romcom of epically hilarious proportions.

What I love about Henri is her sunny, kind personality and her never failing optimism. She is an extremely caring person, even though she has been hurt repeatedly. I adore the good she puts out into the world and the way that good energy comes back to her. She is impossible not to love completely, chaos and all. I love the message that we are all lovable even if we don’t quite fit the expectation of “normal.”I love reading about the Fireballs as a team as they progress through their season. The way the team has bonded into a family is perfection. The setting of Copper Valley s perfect and special cameos by characters and settings from other books by this author are cool Easter eggs that I really enjoyed. This story has twists, laughter, romance, and plenty of heat. (I laughed out loud repeatedly while reading this book. My hubby just grinned at me from his chair.) It is written in first person from a dual POV.I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an Advance Review Copy from the author.

Another laugh out loud hilarious yet sweet, romantic steamy romcom by Pippa Grant. No one, and I mean NO ONE, writes hilarious shenanigans as masterfully as Pippa does. Left at the altar, again, Henri turns to Luca to teach her how to NOT fall in love. Her request comes at a real opportune time for Luca as he is trying to escape “The Eye” of his Nonna. Nonna aka Grandma aka TikTok Nonna has decided it was time for Luca to get married and “The Eye” is Nonna’s sure way of making love matches and weddings happen in her family.“Gone is TikTok Nonna with a sparkle in her eye and a groove in her step, and in her place is the formidable head of an Italian crime organization.”So, while Luca “teaches” Henri how to not fall in love, she poses as his girlfriend to protect him from Nonna’s Eye; and as they pretend together, some real feelings are beginning to surface. We get to catch up with our beloved Pippaverse characters, follow the Fireballs during their redemption season of not staying the worst team in the league and check in with the four mascot candidates.I absolutely adored this book and couldn’t recommend it more to everyone looking to escape into the world of romantic comedy.

Henri Bacon, her heroine is everyone of us. She is in love with love, but love doesn't love her back. In typical Pippa Grant fashion she made me laugh out loud with some crazy antics. I started the books laughing through the first couple of chapters, but halfway though I had tears in my eyes as I realized that I am Henri...I have been where she is and felt her pain. Then there is Luca. Luca is the guy we all tell ourselves is too good for us and could never fall for someone as awkward and weird as we are. He is such an amazing character because even though he claims to not believe in love he sees Henri for who she really is, sees that she gives out her love so freely and happily. He sees what others don't...that she gives everything of herself to people and is just looking for that one who will love her in return.I know I say it for every one of Pippa's books, but this one is her absolute best one yet. I dare you not to fall in love with Henrietta Bacon.

She is tired of failed relationships so she appeals to Luca to teach her how not to fall in love. Somehow she agrees to be involved in his fake relationship scheme. In the hilarity that follows involving internet sensations, costumes for cats as well as things that were so funny I had to hold my sides while laughing! We also learn that these two people who seem like opposites have more in common than one would think. They let each other into their fortresses that they have built up to protect themselves.Pippa really hit this one out of the ballpark ( excuse the pun) with a heartwarming story. You will find the ending so delightful that you may cry tears of joy ( like I did).

Pippa Grant is easily one of my top favorite romantic comedy romance novelists. She is so creative and her writing has such great personality. Henri can’t help but fall in love with EVERYTHING, so who better to teach her how to not fall in love anymore than a man who refuses to succumb to the emotion?I loved reading Luca see Henri for the type of person she is. She taught him how to be more compassionate, how to have more patience, and most of all, how to open his heart up again. This gripping tale of a fake dating, opposites attract, romcom gave me all the feels.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••𝐼 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑟𝑐 𝑖𝑛 𝑒𝑥𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑦 ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑤

Nona with her rainbow hair, Dogzilla the cat with her crazy costumes, the sweet and thoughtful Henri, and the sexy and sweet Luca have stolen my heart! Not to mention the most wonderful HEA. It was also great seeing Mack and Brooks, and some of the Thrusters make appearances. Thank you Pippa!!! I can't wait to read whatever you have in store for us next.

Henri will be Luca's fake girlfriend for the rest of the Fireball's season to keep Nonna from putting the Eye on him and in return the grumpy baseball player will try to keep Henri from falling head over heels in love the first sight of a guy, if that's even possible ;) How long will it take for each of them to rub off on one another? Is Luca really as anti-love as he says? Can Henri keep from falling in love with Luca?

Real Fake Love has the grumpy/sunshine trope aspect that I have been really attracted to lately. Henri is a great sunshine character that was so easy to fall in love with from the start. We get to see Henri struggle with her love for love and romance in an entertaining way. Her cat, Dogzilla, is just the right amount of crazy for a little bit of the "crazy cat lady" vibe.
