I didn't actually like it at first but it tied together and grew on me and then I really did.

Audible Original Audio Drama. Short, sweet. Crisp dialogue. Interlaced narratives that hit a satisfying end. Just what I look for in AOs.

There is presumably some sort of tie-in between the two pairs of actors who perform in alternating scenes, but I missed the connection. The voice performances were well done though, so definitely points for that. Narrating the standard Audible intro and outro with outer space sound effects was also something different for a change. The pretend swearing of "fark" and "scrit" was a bit overdone though, and did seem like a steal from TV's "The Good Place."The Messengers was one of the Audible Originals free gifts to members for the month of March 2020, after which it will revert to regular price.

Cute little hour long listen on Audible this month. Humor reminds me of the tv show The Good Place.

The start of the book is awful. Eventually it gets better but the majority seems like it was written for an asylum movie. There are clever moments but they are soon undercut by bad dialogue.

Ick. - I can appreciate the cleverness of the story, but it almost seems like the twist / pay-off was chosen first, and the rest of the story written around that. It gives an air of, "too clever for its own good," to the proceedings. Conclusion: It's fine for a freebie, but it's far from earth-shattering. If you can get it for free AND the premise sounds interesting, or if you are a super-fan of Sci-Fi, it may be worth a listen. Otherwise, there are almost assuredly better options out there.

I don't quite know what to say about this Audible Original. It was a free download with my Audible subscription. It's short, but packs a punch. It's SciFi. It's an audio play. It's the story of four people, two-on-two, that are disparate (and desperate) yet...not. I won't divulge more because...spoilers. I went into thinking, "Ah, a quick listen while I try to figure out what to listen to next." I came out of it not only thinking about the story but also wondering, "WTH just happened I don't quite know what to say about this Audible Original. In a VERY good way. Lindsay Joelle is a very talented playwright and the four actors did admirable jobs presenting characters with little in common and with the listener knowing nothing about any of them. Well done. Listen to this story if you get the chance, even if you aren't a fan of SciFi.

This one reminded me why I don't pick up the monthly freebies anymore. All the extra sound and such really mess with my hearing, and in so doing, messes with my over-all health! The story in itself was ok, though. It was a short about the effects of war and prejudice and humanity, which I found interesting. It really did take a few of the problems by the horns, saying it right out, and maybe it'll be able to reach someone and help them see the world better. Unfortunatly, I think they will only get offended and think the story was crap. The voice-actors were good, even if the two girls were a little hard to tell apart at times, but in the end I just rolled with it, as I usually do when reading/hearing books that confuse me :P I am curious about the bird, however, and kinda sad we didn't get an answer to that, or an actual finish.

This was so close to being a 1 star rating because it was really boring and not interesting story-wise, but I chuckled like twice and liked one of the characters in the story. I imagined this would be filled with some interesting world building and characters that would make the short hour and a half listen amazing, but I was wrong. Most of the plot felt pretty pointless and the characters for the most part were not likable. That may have had to do with the awfulness of the whole universe it was set in. I felt like the author might have tried to make a point with all of that, but it just didn't land because it felt forced and awkward given that the story wasn't that great.

This is a short, well-told tale of a galaxy caught in a decades-long war, and two pairs of protagonists, a generation apart. It was... interesting? I love the free Audible books each month, but I'm not really sure what made me choose this one. I think the description is what caught my attention? Not really sure what the point of this story was.. the ending was pretty abrupt and I don't understand what the characters were trying to achieve? Also - what kind of message was she hoping to find and did she really get all that much from what she found in the DNA strand? ... maybe I'll feel differently if I read it again, It was... interesting? This was a fun little Sci-Fi script. At only 2 hours in length, the author was able to tell a complete and heartwarming story about members of 2 warring races of carbon based life-forms overcoming their differences and finding compassion for one another across generations. The actors did a wonderful job and Lindsay Joelle's script kept a balance between humor and seriousness that other audible original authors have skewed too far for my taste. All in all, fairly well executed-- would recommend.4 This was a fun little Sci-Fi script. MORE BOOKS like this PLEASE AUDIBLE!!! I truly wish that this book was longer... the strylines are simply amazing and un detectable until the end. It's sad but true that this is typical American thoughts/words/actions when we promote peacekeeping, which is kind of scary to hear out loud! Overall a wonderful book... I will need to look at the author's works more closely but definately a part of my tops and the fact that i got it for FREEEE ninty-nine; JACKPOT!!!

This one I took since it was on the audible original selection this month and is very fast.I ended loving it, the plot was very fast paced yes but it was very wholesome too and how the two stories converged were very good done. The plot moved very good and intertwined fantastically, if you like fast paced books this one is perfect for that. The theme about sci fi and future earth love it, it's always interesting to see another visions of how the future can be.

This was a fun audiobook. I'm usually not a fan of multi-cast dramatic audiobooks because I often feel like the writing takes a backseat to the production value, but this was a case where it felt like the production value really accentuated the written content. The characters were interesting and the dialogue was fresh and kept the story moving along, with enough twists and turns to keep me interested. It was a short, intriguing piece that I really enjoyed listening to.

Zero stars if it were possible. Free book on March picks and I regret picking this book. Narrators were great but the story line and ending were ridiculous. I may have given it more stars had the prototype message been better. ALL that back and forth for just "that" message. Seriously disliked this book and do not care to read other books by the author. Kudos to the narrators having to put up with this.

A SF short story narrated as an Audible original. Two interwoven stories, of a soldier on a distant planet who aids and is aided by a refugee, and two female officers assigned as teammates on a first mission, which is both comedic and poignant. The metaphors are a little heavy-handed, the characters somewhat less than three-dimensional, but it's funny and carries a satiric edge.

This was the second of my free Audible Originals for the month. It's a quick listen with a sci-fi story that is written with amusing dialogue, but an ultimately poignant message. I enjoyed it all, but would have preferred the dialogue between the two women to be a bit more relaxed. Listening to their scenes was like listening to a volley between automatic rifles. . . per se. ;)

Really enjoyed the two stories. If you still have a slot available for the March 2020 free Original, you should grab a copy. If you are reading this after March, you should still think about getting it because it's pretty darn good.

Free Audible. I felt the "nessage" at the end was not worth the wait. I liked the characters opinion of scars being a map. But overall, the story missed the mark. Gave an extra star for the narrators.

The story tied together at the end in an interesting and unexpected way, but it wasn't enough to make up for the previous 2 hours of lackluster story, bad dialogue and poor voice acting. There's potential for a very good story hidden within, but it was not executed well in this short story format.

What the heck did I just listen to? This was just bad. The actors was bad. The story was bad. The entire thing was annoying. I just can't even. Literally the only good thing about this was that it eventually made a teensy bit of sense at the end. But I regret this entire experience.

This one was really confusing for about half of it-- of course, it makes sense (sort of) in the end. Perhaps it was all the science behind it that seemed confusing. But the emotion behind it was great and the performances were good.

The slapstick comedy of the first chapter is genuinely hilarious, and the next couple chapters offer decent screwball dialogue, but the more introspective later chapters are disappointingly underbaked.
