Brand new series about witches (white and dark) living publicly among non-magical people. In fact, the dark witches even have a voodoo shop for tourists! The witches even have elected leaders. All seems to be going well until a sudden power play ends not in a political coup, but murder. Now with the murder clues pointing to the innocent leader, it's obvious something has to be done to make sure the wrong person isn't arrested. The story includes ghosts, shifters, interesting familiars. clumsy Brand new series about witches (white and dark) living publicly among non-magical people. Celestial Meadow is the coven leader High Priestess witch and store owner of a candle, spice and herb shop selling teas, soaps, and lotions to the town and the tourists. Celestial knew something was up when her hateful, spiteful cousin Isabella Lark, who hadnt stopped in for 5 years, showed up as soon as the shop opened, saying she was going to attend the coven meeting which she hadnt attended in years. She wasnt a very likable person actually, so probably no one had missed her being there. Then Celestial Meadow is the coven leader High Priestess witch and store owner of a candle, spice and herb shop selling teas, soaps, and lotions to the town and the tourists. Celestial knew something was up when her hateful, spiteful cousin Isabella Lark, who hadn’t stopped in for 5 years, showed up as soon as the shop opened, saying she was going to attend the coven meeting which she hadn’t attended in years. She wasn’t a very likable person actually, so probably no one had missed her being there. Then she greeted Dakota and strode out of the shop. For the rest of the day, Celestial worried what she was up to – there would definitely be trouble coming!Sure enough, when Celestial entered the B&B meeting room, Isabella had taken over the meeting and was demanding new leadership because she didn’t like Celestial’s rules. She asked for a vote the following week. Most of the witches were appalled, but a few showed interest. Joyce Littleton glared at Isabella for the rest of the meeting. That evening, Isabella went to her room and saw a cup of hot tea waiting for her. She expressed her delight to the B&B owner Meredith Blanchard who told her she hadn’t delivered it and it was probably from one of the coven members downstairs. As she turned to go downstairs, Isabella collapsed in a heap on the floor! At 3 a.m. two ghosts told Celestial’s dragonfly familiar, Athena, that they had found Isabella’s body. Celestial sent them to notify Meredith at the B&B while she called Nikolai Brewer, a wolf shapeshifter detective at the Sheriff’s Office. At the crime scene, Isabella’s body was tucked into bed, as if she were merely asleep. Meredith told the detective that the teacup next to her was not from the B&B, as Athena whispered that it looked like one of Celestial’s teacups! Was someone trying to frame her? Too many people disliked Isabella – this was not going to be an easy case to solve! This was a really good story, well-paced and intriguing. We’re getting to know the characters and it looks like this will be a fun series. Grab your copy and see if Celestial can find the murderer with all fingers pointing her way! Does her old school friend, Detective Brewer, believe she is innocent despite the evidence?

She tries to speak to her cousin Opal about what happened to her sister, Opal runs upstairs. That is when Celestial over hears about a tea cup and looks. It is her tea cup that was in the room. Celestial is a suspect in the death of Isabella, she knows she didn't do. She decides she has to look into it. Others will have her conviction before the human courts. It will take some time but between Celestial, friends and Nikoli, they will hunt down the truth. This was a really great start to the series. You will have several suspects to go through but not the one you were going to suspect. The author keep up the suspense until she got the end of the book. You have the murder and the action of the main character trying to solve it. I recommend this book, it was such a great getaway.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A Magical ReadSpooks and Spells, the first in a new series by Constance Barker, was incredible! Celestial Meadows is a smart and sassy white witch, and she was determined to solve the murder. I couldn't figure it out until the reveal myself! I can see several characters that I already like, who will make future volumes very interesting! The setting was wonderful as well. I just couldn't stop reading, and read this in one go! You need to try this series! You're going to love it!

Celestial Meadows which by the way I think is the coolest name I have ever heard. Celestial Meadows ones a candle, herb and spice shop and she is a witch too which I thought was cool before because like all little girls I think at one time or another have wanted to be a witch. This book was well written and the characters were awesome.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really liked this cozy mystery set in a small town where white witches, dark witches and shifters all co-exist fairly well. Until one of the white witches is murdered! Our MC witch Celestial has to try and figure out what really happened, with her friend the sheriff, the shifter, and her dragonfly familiar who can get as big as an eagle when threatened. Really fun story and great world building.

Isabella was trouble, with a capital T. She did not care what means she used to get what she wanted whether it be power, fortune or men and it was no wonder that someone hated her enough to murder her. The problem was that there were too many suspects, in fact some were even celebrating her death.A great start to a new series. Fun and interesting with lots of great characters. Looking forward to the next one!

Feel good kind of mysteryAll's well that ends well...It's light reading and running around around like keystone cops looking at good and evil where everyone is a suspect. You will figure it out early on if you pay attention but it's a fun read with enough characters to keep it entertaining. A typical Baker book, with just enough to draw you in and keep you reading til the end. Enjoy

This was a tragic but yet at the same time a fun mystery. What Celestial had to go through before figuring out who actually murdered her cousin, Isabella. Disappointing writingI have read the Calamity Corners series and considered it cleverly written. This book does not seem to have any input from Constance Barker. Everything is told and over-explained, with no depth to the characters. There is no true arc to the story. It seemed as if it was written by a not-very-talented 10-year-old.
