Vixen (Dark Protectors #11.5)
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti comes a new story in her Dark Protectors/Rebels series… Tabi Rusko has a simple to-do list: Rob a bank, steal a recording, set up a lucrative factory, and survive the assassins on her tail. Sure, she’s a demoness with the cunning and instincts that come with her species, but she’s always spent more time exploring than training, and her fighting skills are okay at best. One sexy man, a human cop no less, is responsible for her being stuck in a small hick town and forced into a human anger-management group that’s crazier than her. To make matters worse, his dangerous blue eyes and hard body leave her breathless and ready to rumble, and his overbearing attitude is a challenge a demoness can’t refuse. Evan O’Connell just wants to enjoy his time out of the military by policing a small town and hopefully pulling cats from trees and helping old ladies cross the street before he succumbs to the disease plaguing him. The last thing he needs is a stunning, too sexy, pain in the butt blonde casing his bank and causing a ruckus everywhere she goes. There’s something different about her that he can’t figure out, and when she offers him immortality in exchange for her freedom, he discovers that isn’t enough. One touch of her, a whirlwind beyond his imagination, and he wants the Vixen to be his forever, as soon as he takes care of the centuries old killers on her tail. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

I loved what this story brought out of these characters. Evan was like a supreme alpha or something and Tabi was the kind of woman who wasn't used to answering to anyone much less depending on them. Their interactions were hilarious, the action scenes were incredible, and now I'm even more excited to get my hands on more of Zanetti's books!

Classic Zanetti paranormal romance. This novella is very much like the rest of the Dark Protectors series. Fast love, bad guys on their tail, bossy male, sassy female. This one however was the first human man paired up with a demoness and I enjoyed the twist.

The only thing I wanted more of was the exploration of Evan's character once he became an immortal and I hope that it will happen in the next novel because it opened up a whole new world in my opinion. Tabi and Evan were a cute couple and both of them were very likable.Overall, I am happy that I decided to read this book and I would recommend it!

The characters in this book were introduced in the first of the spin-offs, Vengeance, where we met a unique bunch of immortals attending (of all things) anger management classes. It’s hilariously unexpected, and they’re a great group, and I loved being back with them all. Tabi is a feisty and independent demoness who is fighting bad guys and working to build her fortune when she runs into trouble with the police and ends up in anger management classes. And the man who put her there is local Detective, Evan O’Connell, who seems determined to protect her – despite her insistence that she doesn’t need it. Evan is a local detective with a big heart, the best of intentions, and a protective streak a mile wild. He was a SEAL until a debilitating illness presented him with a death sentence, so he moved to a small town where he could make a difference with whatever time he has left. He’s determined to clean up the corruption in his small town, and he’s investigating a local murder (from book #1), but the case he can’t get off his mind is Tabi’s, and when he learns that she’s in danger, he can’t help but throw himself right into the middle of it. It's a fun set-up, which gets even more entertaining when Tabi decides that she can help Evan by mating him – therefore curing him of his illness and saving his life. Of course, it means they’ll be bonded for eternity, but she’s not thinking that far into the future. Until the deed is done, and the result is nothing like she was expecting. “You know him better than we do. If his human personality is amplified, is he dangerous?”“No. Bossy, controlling, and protective, however,” she murmured. And she’d mated the guy. This is such a great read. Tabi and Evan are great characters, and I loved the twist in the usual run of things as a male mate is bought into the immortal fold for the very first time. It’s intriguing, and adds up a whole new world of possibilities, and I loved watching it all unfold. The unusual event brings cameos from the Dark Protectors series – both the original story arc, and the new – which I loved, and there is a nice set up there for the next book in this spin-off, Vampire: A Dark Protectors/Rebels Novella, which will be Raine and Mariana’s story… can’t wait!As always, there’s a nice amount of action as Tabi’s threat catches up to her, but this time, she’s got a protector by her side. And there’s a sexy and intense romance full of banter and bickering as Tabi introduces Evan into her world and they wok to figure everything out between them. So much fun, and a must-read for lovers of the series. I loved this one! 4 stars. An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

VIXEN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Several characters from the author’s Dark Protectors series cross-over for cohesion and familiarity.Told from dual third person perspectives (Tabi and Evan) VIXEN follows Tabi Rusko as she struggles to stay one step ahead of the shifter who demand she hand over her latest invention but Tabi’s friendship with detective Evan O’Connell threatens Tabi’s latest endeavor as Evan stalks our heroine from afar. All is not well in Evan O’Connell’s life. Our hero is slowly dying, and only a mating has the possibility of saving his life but Evan is unaware of the supernatural element, and Tabi has no idea if mating a human will cure what ails Evan O’Connell. As threats against Tabi become dangerous and personal, Evan’s newfound powers take on a life of their own when his ‘mate’ is threatened with bodily harm. What ensues is the building relationship between Tabi and Evan, and the potential fall-out as Evan finds himself the target in an effort to force Tabi to give up everything she knows.VIXEN is a story of power, control, relationships and love. To protect our heroine, another demon has offered to mate but lines are drawn, and when threatened Evan takes control with deadly force. The action packed premise is fast paced and entertaining; the characters are energetic and powerful; the romance is limited to a night –there is definitely a case of insta lust to love.www.thereadingcafe.com

Makes me smile again thinking about his chivalrous nature, and how he was protective, even when so unwell. There is a lot of plot, some of it small town, some of it otherworldly, but it fits together perfectly and was the perfect escape for a Sunday afternoon. I will be adding the Dark Protectors' series to my to-be-read pile, that is for sure!

Vixen is a fast-paced paranormal romance that is full of steam, adventure, action, and a smattering of humor. Tabi was quite entertaining with her saucy personality all while being a strong, independent demoness - my favorite type of heroine. Evan is a human cop with no knowledge of paranormal beings (demons, vampires, shifters, etc) residing in his small town. I really liked his big heart and protective nature. I did find the evolution of his character to be rather abrupt, but I think it was fitting with storyline. Vixen, a part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection, takes place in this author’s Dark Protectors Realm. If you are familiar with her works, then you will be pleased to see some secondary characters from the previous books. If you are new to this author, this is the perfect introduction to the paranormal world of Dark Protectors. It is a standalone novella that is sure to keep you entertained through the very end end. I voluntarily read an early version of this book. This is my honest and unbiased review.

Winning the game This sassy demoness keeps her over protective alpha police detective on his feet and the story moving throughout. I love the way the author brings out the fun in even the most dangerous situations and the way she added something new to this series that I already love so much. I can’t wait to read all about the doctor and the vampire in the next book. I’m sure it will not be an easy path for them, but it will be oh so enjoyable for me.

Vixen comes from Zanetti’s Dark Protectors paranormal romance series- a series that I am not super familiar with myself. Fortunately, the story operates as a standalone, and thanks to the quick and engaging plot of this story and Zanetti’s keen ability to quickly world build and keep the paranormal elements digestible, I found it easy to dive right into this series.Tabi is our demoness leading lady, who finds herself stuck in anger management classes after some trouble. Our human hero, the former Navy SEAL Evan, now a detective, is responsible for her being there. Meanwhile, Evan is suffering from a debilitating and terminal condition, and has resigned himself to slow death in this small town. He can’t get Tabi off his mind, especially when he learns she’s in danger.. He’s insistent upon protecting Tabi from the shifter demanding access to her work, while she’s uninterested in his help. Action, adventure, and steam ensue- including the entertaining turn of events when Tabi decides to mate Evan to possibly heal him, which gifts Evan with his own powers that seem to develop in the face of a threat to Tabi. A sexy, bantering romance escales quickly between them as the two face the imminent threats. As I mentioned before, for a novella that takes place in an already established series, Zanetti’s world building is really skillful. I’d read Zanetti before, but not this series. Paranormal romances used to be my go-to, but I found myself moving away from them as overly complex world cannons and long-running series made it harder to keep up or to easily jump in. I was worried I’d have that experience here, especially for a novella, but this really was a super accessible paranormal lens. And, it really did what the 1001 Dark Nights Series intends to do- it introduced me to a world and gave me a big enough bite-sized sample to leave me intrigued about the rest of this series and with a thirst to spend more time in this world.Characters that appear in other parts of the series make appearances here- though they are strangers to me. Not knowing them didn’t much impact my reading experience, although I’m sure this would be way more delightful to readers who love and recognize these characters. Evan and Tabi are both entertaining characters. Evan’s protective nature and alpha tendencies but also his sweet heart make him swoon worthy, and Tabi’s sassy independence and impulsive passion made for some great story tension and action. Of course, like in many novellas, I left feeling like I didn’t know the characters as much as I wanted to- they are just so interesting- but for the length of the story and the focus of their development, they are dimensional enough for us to be invested. For a short story, this is quite a bit of plot and action- this is fast paced and entertaining with just the right balance of steam and adventure, danger and fun. If you are new to PNR or to this series, it is a great way to stick your toe into the pool. And, if you are a longtime fan of this series or author, I imagine this will be quite a delicious treat for you, too.

4.4 starsThe latest release in the 1001 Dark Nights series brings a spicy demoness, Tabi, and her police detective, Evan, together for some fun and danger intertwined. From the beginning you cannot help but fall for how protective Tabi is over her police detective but it seems as if there is more to him than meets the eye. Add in the supposed fiancé that is after Tabi and the world as is known radically changes. The tension between the characters is only highlighted by the secondary characters brought in to help trying to figure everything out. This is one storyline that focuses on relationships and the power that one wields and the lengths one would go to. Although it is book 11.5 of the author’s Dark Protector series, this novella can be read as a standalone. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.

Wish it was longerThis was a really good story that just needed a little more it left so many unanswered questions it felt like a soap opera episode not in content but length. It just needed more length. 25% of the book was intro to other books or content. I scrolled past the first 12% to get to the start of the story and at the end scrolled another 13% to get to the last page. What were his powers, what were her powers, does he win, the backstory there but brushed over so no real knowledge of what shaped them. Overall captivating and engrossing but I left feeling a bit unsatisfied like somethings were missing. It was a good story (meal) but an ingredient or dish was missed

Vixen was a delightful introduction to Rebecca Zanetti who is a new to me author.  This is the story of demoness, Gabi, who is breaking the law to build her fortune which lands her into an anger management group that seriously made me laugh hard.  She's put there by local detective, Evan, who was a former SEAL until he caught a fatal disease so he's just trying to do good in his time left.  Now, she thinks maybe she could mate with Evan to save his life, and that causes all kinds of chaos which Vixen was a delightful introduction to Rebecca Zanetti who is a new to me author.  This is the story of demoness, Gabi, who is breaking the law to build her fortune which lands her into an anger management group that seriously made me laugh hard.  She's put there by local detective, Evan, who was a former SEAL until he caught a fatal disease so he's just trying to do good in his time left.  Now, she thinks maybe she could mate with Evan to save his life, and that causes all kinds of chaos which still entertained me a great deal but I can't tell you why.  Oh, and she also has some interesting assassins on her tail to boot. Vixen is a novella that packs a big punch, and I'm excited to read more of this author in the future.  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I felt as though I missed a little bit of storyline here by not reading Vengeance first (not sure how I missed that one) but I was able to catch up quickly enough to enjoy Vixen!I enjoyed that the immortal in this story was female for a change, and Evan is a whole different sort of mate! He certainly ranks right up there with some of my favorite heroes from this author, and he may give some of the other Dark Protectors a run for their money in the alpha bossy protective category. His illness may have tamed him as a human but I would love to see more about what he can do now that he is part of the Realm's world. This is one story that I wish would have been full length instead of novella length.

I always love these short filler stories. They give me the “side characters“ I want to know more about and they pack a small punch. When I first read about Tabi I knew right away I wanted her story. She was a badass demoness who goes with the flow of everything. Her goal was to get that video of her back but she ended up in more trouble due to her business.Evan is a small town cop who is ill. His main goal is making sure Tabi and Abby make it out of that town healthy and safe before he croaks. He I always love these short filler stories. I just wish there would have been more about the bank robbery! Thats what I really wanted!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a quick read and we got to revisit many old characters that we know and love. It is apart of two different series but can be read alone. I haven’t read the series in forever and was able to follow along just fine. I loved the relationship between Tabi and Evan. The give and take they had with each other and the situation they were in. Evan was a human who didn’t know he was special until they mated. He was able to get up to speed very fast and without to much I really enjoyed this story. Fun little novella. Tabi is spirited and likes to play with danger. Speed, robbing banks, beating up humans. Fun stuff, right? Evan is ex-military and now small town cop. Who knew the Navy Seal could go all alpha man on her? He’s “supervising an anger management group filled with...immortals? Well, he doesn’t know that yet... I mean, they’re all talking crazy, like they’re part of a cult! She’s impulsive and mates the good, kind cop because she can save him. Little does she know, Evan is very sp Fun little novella. A Dark Protector novella with a twist! And what a twist it was. I read Vixen in one sitting. I'm a huge fan of Rebecca's and when a new book comes out I'm so happy I get to read them early. This novella has everything I love about Rebecca's book. Hot hero, danger, and just enough of a tease to leave you excited for the next book. Tabitha is a demoness that you can't help but love. She is sassy and vulnerable at the same time. Evan, is probably my new favorite DP hero. After Talen of course. A she A Dark Protector novella with a twist! And what a twist it was. Vixen by Rebecca Zanetti is book 11.5 Dark Protectors Series. This is the story of Evan O’Connell and Tabitha 'Tabi' Rusko. I do feel this can be a standalone book if you wish to do so. Evan is a caring man who is the local detective. Tabitha is a spunky, strong demon women who took down some men that were harassing her...which sent her to anger management classes. This was a funny entertaining read that I really enjoyed. I have read previous books by this author so I know that I will always get Vixen by Rebecca Zanetti is book 11.5 Dark Protectors Series. She’s a demoness vixen😍 Vixen is the newest novella set in the Dark Protectors/Rebels world and is a great introduction to this world, especially if you haven’t read anything by Rebecca yet❣️Tabitha is a demoness and is trying to keep attention away from herself but that seems to just attract more.
