When He’s Dark (The Olympus Pride, #1)
Cat shifter Bree Dwyer doesn't fear much. Ironically, what she fears most is the person who was put on the Earth just for her. Your true mate wasn't supposed to be cruel and twisted; wasn't supposed to be someone who’d never love or want to claim you. The rumors that her true mate is dead bring her only relief. Bree's intent on moving forward with her life and building a future with someone else. Sadly, the male she wants most is one she can never have—a hot-as-sin wolverine shifter who happens to be her boss … and the cousin of her predestined mate.Aleksandr “Alex” Devereaux detests being bullshitted, but he’s been lying to himself for years—pretending he thinks of Bree as extended family; that he doesn't want her so bad he aches with it; that he can't feel himself weakening against her pull. The night they spend together changes everything. He's done fighting himself on what he wants. Someone isn't happy about that. Possibly the same 'someone' who's playing mind games with Bree, trying to scare her. They're succeeding, because too many leads point to the possibility that the culprit could be the one person that she's determined to believe is dead.

4 Smut Scale StarsYou all know by now that I am complete trash for anything this woman writes and this story was no different. Alex was a wonderful Alpha lead and his wolverine was a lot of fun. I also really liked Bree. She was the first omega character we have had and that was a new twist also. I also really liked that Wright changed up the steamy scenes a bit and made them a little less...confrontational. So, it was nice to have that changed up a bit. Also, fair warning: this is a little slower in some areas than some of her other books, but nothing alarming. In short, I really enjoyed it and think fans of the series will be happy.

The Olympus Pride starts off with a smoking hot winner!Suzanne Wright is back and at her best with this one! It has all the Danger, mystery, passion and humor of some of the earlier Phoenix pack books. I really enjoyed this book, there was a feeling of newness even though some of the well known characters made cameos in this book. It certainly was no about them at all. It has all the Danger, mystery, passion and humor of some of the earlier Phoenix pack books. I really enjoyed this book, there was a feeling of newness even though some of the well known characters made cameos in this book. It certainly was no about them at all. It was completely Olympus Pride and they didn’t even call on the Mercury or Phoenix Packs to help them in any sort of war or fight. Those characters only played very minor roles and only appeared a few times very quickly. The Olympus Pride is mainly Pallas cats and as we know from previous Mercury and Phoenix books, the Pallas cat shifter can be extremely dangerous despite looking like a chubby little house cat. They attack very suddenly and quickly and go for the face and the head. They scratch and bite and don’t let go until flesh, hair and cartilage is shredded. The Olympus Pride also has some wolverine shifters and some are loners that are close to members of the Olympus Pride. Wolverines are even more dangerous than Pallas cats. They can withstand nearly anything, even bullets if they get to a healer soon enough and they have long sharp claws that can shred flesh and teeth that can chew through bone. This story is about one of the Omegas of the Olympus Pride, by the name of Bree. The Omegas are sort of like the psychologists of the shifter community and there is always a Primary Omega and one or many Omegas under the Primary. The Primary is always the one with the strongest Omega powers. Even though Bree’s power’s grew very fast and now she can do more than her Primary Dani, she doesn’t want the job of Omega. She just wants things to stay as they are. Bree met her true mate when she was five years old, but she knew right away that Paxton wasn’t right. She already had some of her Omega powers to feel the emotions of other people and she could tell that he was just empty of all emotion. She knew right away that she didn’t want to be his mate. He didn’t want to be tied down to a mate either and left the Pride. They had heard horrible stories of people he had tortured and killed over the years but all the stories stopped about four years ago, so most people think he is dead.Bree works at a Jewelry store and has had a crush on her boss Aleksandr Devereaux for years, he is part owner of the store and a Wolverine shifter since his mother is a Wolverine, though his father is a Pallas cat. He is also the cousin of Bree’s fated Mate Paxton. The romance between Alex and Bree in this book is so hot that it doesn’t matter that they aren’t each other’s true mates. I kind of like it that they chose each other. The mystery of everything that is going on is pretty great as well. I never guessed who was behind everything until it all came out. I almost hate it when authors give the reader too many clues because I like to be surprised for the big reveal, even if you guess and you are correct. Then it is just a guess and it isn’t because it was glaringly obvious due to all the overt clues.Anyway the book was awesome. The villain(s) are also fantastic. The romance absolutely sizzling like bacon on a fire. The humor was great. Watch out for the Russians!Blog|Goodreads|Facebook|Instagram|Twitter|BookBub

This first book in the new series (intersects with previous series) gives us Pallas cat shifter and omega Bree and the broody wolverine Alex (Mila's brother). They may not be true mates but they've yearned for each other for years, and have a connection that sizzles with the lightest touch. When Alex realises that Bree's in danger and that she is planning to leave, he's done standing on the side-lines, and once a wolverine makes a decision he/she is all in. With danger lurking in the most unexpected places they've got a lot to deal with. An enjoyable read but I didn't love it, found myself skipping some of the love scenes (felt very similar at times) and whilst I smiled and found myself amused, it wasn't as potently as I expected. I wanted a bit more snap and sizzle between Bree and Alex, although I have to say I did like how Bree didn't roll over and just do as he said/wanted. I also wanted a greater sense of danger and tension to manifest when it came to the issue/events around Bree's (view spoiler)[psycho true mate. (hide spoiler)]I may pick this up again via KU.

For me, this was pure perfection...Loved both characters- Alex Deveraux (the wolverine shifter) and Bree (the Pallas cat shifter)...For Suzanne Wright's book, I drop everything else and simply indulge myself in the perfect steamy action packed thrill

3.5 stars.Whilst I really liked the characters and the whole imprinting rather than fated mates line, I'm afraid the relentless kidnapping/attempted kidnapping/tranqing got a bit old after the first few times, hence not quite 4 stars 🤷

DNF @ 30%. But I still rated, why? Bc I've read enough to know that it's going to be a solid 3. The writing isn't bad. The cover is very appealing. The fact that the heroine is a Pallas cat (I know what those are now! After having read one of my faves, ) kinda perked my interest, but nothing really came of it. The hero is a wolverine (small bear-sized). I just couldn't get interested enough. There's the mystery of where's Bree's mate (Paxton) and what the hyenas want with him. There's the DNF @ 30%. 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ Youre the person I want to spend the rest of my life trapping under the covers while I fart. Bree stared at him. If thats not love, I dont know what is. Ive been waiting for this spin-off series. I was really intrigued with Alex and about wolverines and how they can infiltrate the Phoenix Pack territory when he was introduced in Dominic & Milas story, Untamed Delights, so I was really excited for his story, I was also not disappointed😊. The plot may have similarities from the first two series but it still kept me guessing. 🙄The sibling’s banter always cracks me up whether it was from Alex & Mila or Elle & Damian😂. Oh and let’s not forget Valentina’s brother & James😂. I was also expecting some cameos from both the Phoenix & Mercury Pack, I love that they just randomly appear and my gosh Kye is now 18 😮😲(I really hope he’ll have his own book🙏🏻) I’m also hoping for a Pallas Cat & Mink tandem 😁Anywhoooo.... I really enjoyed this story and I want more 😊

Meh. I didn't love it. I got quite annoyed with the characters. Alex, the hero, pissed me off. Hes so contradictory and just unappealing to me. And kind of a coward IMO. Quite a departure from this authors usual heroes. I really dont like that Alex hurt/rejected Bree in the past. After already having been somewhat intimate with her. (A heavy make-out session, he made her come). But then he brushes her off like nothing and went on with his life for 6 years. Ignoring and avoiding her. Alex also Meh. I didn't love it. He even had an OW he was seeing and sleeping with just nine months before being with Bree! I would REALLY prefer if they had not been together at all in the past. Otherwise, it’s just a bitter pill to swallow. That he can just let her go like that and continue on with others. I would expect that cliché from random CR romance. Not from this series. And why all the denial and rejection? He was sparing her his darkness and his controlling ways. Please. Give me a break with that. Thank God, she was not celibate and pining after him. I did wish Bree made Alex work harder for her affections. I mean she was tough and had a spine. But she allowed him to get away with things that I think other heroines would have chewed his ass out for. Like how fast he hightailed it out of her bed the first time they slept together. Yeah, she waited 6 years for him to make a quick escape again. And didn’t even confront him or lay into him? Just sulks inside and feel miserable. Since when do our heroines in this series put up with that shit? I feel like this book is lacking or maybe I just had higher expectations? Or possibly that Alex is just a turn off for me. Like do I really need to hear while h's pleasuring him that “He’d had a lot of good blow jobs, but none had him so close to coming so fast.” Or how about “Has anyone ever taken your ass?” he asked far too casually . Yea, the possessives vibes are coming strong off him. Ah well. I hope the next one is better.

She writes alpha females in the way I actually really like them. Where they are tough, they can kick booty when they need to but have plenty of vulnerabilities to make them easily relatable to any reader. I have simply enjoyed seeing how this author really implements certain aspects and her writing is easily read. You never have to question whether or not you can get into her books so she has become an auto buy author for me in many ways. When He's Dark is a very interesting premise and it begins with two people that are part of the same pack. They have known each other most of their lives and there has been this underlying tension just bubbling under the surface but there have been other factors on both sides that have kept them apart from each other. But when circumstances shift, these two come together in what is an epic and fierce mating. The heroine, Bree is a fighter and is a Omega and even though she has a different approach to helping those emotionally in the pack, she is the strongest in the pack. Alex, is part of the pack but he is not Pallas, but is a Wolverine, and when it comes to being an Alpha Male, he is the epitome of the title. When Alex becomes determined to fight for Bree.....it will be a mating of desire and fierce intensity. When He's Dark is a powerfully penned story that won my heart in so many ways and I am so grateful to this author for continuiing on with this world because I have adored every single moment of its dynamic since its conception and this author really knows how to write these endearing alpha characters. But she really blew the cork with this book because Alex is one YUMMY ALPHA. I have such a weakness for alpha males, and boy when he goes after someone like he does with Bree....its full force and its hot as sin. There is such entertaining factors that bring these two together and plus a crazy ex mate that builds the plot in such an on edge of your seat element. It was quite a delight to see how Alex and Bree come together here and the other dangers that come into play. The way that Suzanne Wright builds her villains is so enticing and really has you deep thinking and trying to solve that mystery of the true intentions. I definitely couldn't get enough of seeing these elements come together in such a enigmatic manner.Overall I found When He's Dark to be a stunning and stimulating romance that fed my romantic heart in every way....you definitely don't want to miss out on this incredible adventure!

So I was looking forward to the release of this for months. It's been nearly a solid year since I've read a brand new shifter book by her. And you know what? The queen of shifter stories never disappoints. This story was actually really interesting. Once I was done being distracted by all my favorite things I'll talk about below, the overall story was awesome. The plot had me surprised, which I'll think it will do to the rest of you. Another awesome thing I forgot about is that SW does swift transitions between POVs. She's not an author that puts it at the beginning of the chapter. It works really well and it's a strong suit of her writing.First great thing about this book? Alex is a wolverine and Bree is a pallas cat. If that doesn't seem like a good time then you obviously haven't read her other stories. Ever since we met him in Untamed Delights I've been wondering if Alex would ever get a book. Getting to see the uniqueness of a wolverine shifter with a pallas cat was so much fun. And I loved that Bree was an omega rather than a dominant animal.Age gap? SW had me screaming, that's my bread and butter. Pairing that with sexy shifters and we've got a party going on. Other great parts of this was being able to see other shifters we've read about. My favorite was Valentina. The women is my spirit animal, I too despise weakness. Also, we love seeing Mila and Alex interact! This was so nice in the best way possible you guys. I wish I wasn't sure that she won't release another book in the shifter world for another year, give or take a few months. I'll never stop giving praise to this author. I guess it's time for a re-read of the other series. "Have you no ethics at all?""I have some. They sleep a lot."

It's one of my favourite in paranormal fantasy: the assurance that your one-true-love can never leave you. Here all the rules of True Mates apply, but things are turned on their head. After all, what does it say about you if the perfect person that the Universe chose for you is an amoral emotionless vacuum? At the start of the story we meet Bree - an omega attuned to others emotions which means she *knows* her True Mate is a psychopath whose emotions just don't work like other people's. The story touches on how she copes with that, as well as how a psychopath copes with a True Mate and to what extent do we have choices in who we love - can you defy a True Mate bond to find someone else? Unfortunately, rather than just being about the relationships, most of the book is about a mystery plot with side-characters that aren't as intriguing. I would've loved to have seen a story just on the Bree-Paxton-Alex dynamic and potentially with a different resolution. It was great to read a story of True Mates that where the plot has a real tension.

Let me start by saying this book isn't going to work for a lot of people. Imprinting is how these two become mates, and although I do love the idea of fated mates, I liked how it was handled. The two of them chose to be together and they did. Imprinting doesn't work for everyone and it's shown here that in order for it work, for their bond to be complete, they both really need to be all in. No hesitation. This was a great start to a new series and I look forward to reading more. (view spoiler)[ Let me start by saying this book isn't going to work for a lot of people. She knew he wasn't going to be with her because he wasn't ready. She also didn't let that stop her from enjoying her life (aka no pining!). Pallas Cats and Wolverines = Perfection! This is another entertaining book by Suzanne Wright. It just doesnt get much better than snarky, grumpy Pallas cats and Russian wolverines. If you enjoy books that will have you alternately laughing out loud and on the edge of your seat, then this is the series for you. It was ok! But only ok. Suzanne Wright is a talented writer and I find all her stories flow really well and the the world building is really easy to imagine. However I feel like Ive read the same story over and over. In this case I found Alex particularly aggressive for no other reason than he just wants to be (I dont mind abit of rough but I usually like there to be a reason for it, surely not every wolverine is that aggressive?) and the sex scenes abit flat and cringey. Let me start off by saying that I thought that I wouldnt like this book at all. Because Ive had issues with MCs not being true mates like some couples in the Phoenix Pack series and the Mercury Pack series. But, to my surprise, this is my favorite story out of all these interconnected shifter series that are set in the same world. Bree and Alex are just plain fun, sexy, and perfect for each other. I loved itSuzanne Wright first book in a new series and I loved it!I loved the main characters, they both strong, loyal and committed to each other, and I adore the Olympus pride! Valentina is a hoot!As usual Suzanne Wright wrote interesting characters and entertaining plots, with some hilarious banter between all the characters. Can't wait for more from this new series.
