Xul (Captured by Aliens #1)
Athena wakes up in hell. Well…it’s an alien slave ship, but it might as well be hell because she only has three choices.Mate. Become a sex slave. Or be killed.Great options.Desperate for freedom, a chance for survival is presented in the handsome rogue alien called Xul.But Xul is caught up in problems of his own and a mission he cannot afford to let fail—one that could be easily compromised if he dared open his heart. That doesn't leave her with many options and it doesn't help that she finds him utterly frustrating......and strong, hot, irresistible…She shouldn’t really be thinking about him like that. Should she?Xul is a standalone read that contains delightfully steamy scenes with a guaranteed happily ever after, possessive alpha males, and strong female leads. There is no forced mating between the hero and heroine and no cliffhanger. It is the first book in the Captured by Aliens sci-fi alien romance series.

So. My intention in reading this was to get a good laugh on a sleepless night. So imagine my surprise when I started reading and became totally engrossed. The whole alien abduction/forced into breeding trope is everywhere lately, and sometimes I skim them for a giggle, because the majority of them are ridiculous. Pretty sure I didn't read the same book everyone else was reading, because I can't say it was good. Let's start with the characters - what do we know about the female MC ? Well, she had a dog, she worked at a pharmacy and hadn't gotten laid or cuddled with anyone in a while. What about Xul? Well, he had a sister who died. If you wanted more, you know, to actually feel a connection to the characters, well you are way out of luck. They are absolutely superficial. Well, he had a sister who died. If you wanted more, you know, to actually feel a connection to the characters, well you are way out of luck. They are absolutely superficial. Also, she describes Xul having a piercing like a bull ... through his nostrils. Um no, bulls have SEPTUM piercings. A little more research would have fixed that right up. The story - No world building at all. I've read quite a few alien books, where the author has taken the time to explain certain things, I mean, all it really takes is a sentence or two. That's a good thing here, that's word count, that helps your story along. Don't be scared of it. But instead, you're now dealing with a spaceship and a planet where apparently humans can breathe ok, have no gravity issues, I mean, totally normal stuff. Lastly, it's unoriginal. Which I know, alien book ? How ? Easy. She makes a reference to Star Wars, you think oh, it's a passing reference. Nope, she uses it to base other characters in her book. Then there's Avengers - one of Xul's buddies is basically Vision but blue. Then there's the phrases that have been repeated in many, MANY romance books before this, for many years. "Gasping into a kiss". Really ? You couldn't come up with anything better than that ? Oh and this is a good one. About 1/3 of the way into the book, she FINALLY decides to give this alien some type of alien language right, mind you, in the form of one word. It was suddenly like a baby saying his first curse word, you know, how they start repeating ALL THE DAMN TIME? Yeah, he found his word. Lastly. Grammatical errors, editing errors, which are a direct result of a bad beta reader, bad ARC team, and clearly a lack of something as simple as freaking Gramarly. Am I expecting too much? Not at all. This was clearly written by an amateur and it reads as such. VC Lancaster managed to pull of a fantastic series, where the characters never even spoke the same language. They had depth, they had layers, you could feel the connection between the characters. The world building was superb. Read those books, compare them to this crap, and then come and tell me I'm wrong.

Pretty good start! This is a pretty good start to a new action, adventure alien abduction series. I'd say one of the biggest reasons I didn't give it more stars was because of the editing I'd just get into a good reading rhythm and a sentence or a few words would make sense and I'd have to read it over a couple of times to make sure I understood what was going on. I enjoyed the premise of the story human being abducted to be sold off to the highest bidder. A slug like alien race you'll love to hate along with a few other that will have you sounding a battle cry. Athena is a tough woman who has a will to survive and to help others. She learns that She has an internal strength that surpasses anything she thought possible. Sold to a horrible frog like alien that just wants to abuse her she unwittingly rescued by Xul a handsome humanoid alien bent on destroying the slavers. Xul is all about his undercover mission to destroy the slavers that killed his sister, he doesn't plan on letting a pretty human female get in the way. We know how things very rarely go according to plan. Xul rescued her and then they crash land on a planet out to kill them. They have to survive together until they can call for help. As they face one dangerous encounter after another they grow closer and learn to respect one another for their differences and realize that strength and loyalty come in many forms. Passion, love and adventure make this a fun read. I'm looking forward to reading the second book, I just hope the editing is better.💖

Ask of the starsWell, this book was awesome. There was never a dull moment. Usually by the middle of the books things are slow before the "big climax". There wasn't a single slow moment. If I had to complain about one thing (and it's not a complaint, really) was that I would love to have had a bit more romance to balance out all that action. But that's really just a personal opinion. I'm a homeless romantic. Or even an epilogue that takes place a little in the future. Something that helps the re Ask of the starsWell, this book was awesome. There was never a dull moment. OMG GIMME THE NEXT ONE ALREADY!!Action, adventure, romanticals, epic battles, and memorable characters, plus some cute little Jawa guys! I'm sleep-deprived, so I'm probably not explaining anything all that well, but I couldn't stop reading, and I'm wicked excited to see what happens next!

Very good !This is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more by her. The plot is the usual earth woman kidnapped by alien scenario but there were enough twists to keep the story interesting. I recommend this book highly.

This author is new to me. Very inventive, love the world visited and all the creatures. Heroine has some sense. Lagged in the middle. Took a while for the couple to connect. I do want to read more from this author.
