I'd Rather Not (KPD Motorcycle Patrol #3)
Oakley Spurlock is dying. She only has weeks to live thanks to a freak infection that totally and completely destroyed her kidneys. Despite her family’s desperation, not a single one of them is a match. In a last-ditch attempt, Oakley’s father takes to social media to beg for help to save his daughter’s life. *** Pace Vineyard is lost. So lost, in fact, that he’s not sure he wants to be found. But then a beautiful woman’s face is splashed across social media, and Pace finds a spark in his soul for the first time since a bomb went off beside him. He’s already missing two legs. What’s one more kidney? At least, that’s what he tells himself. What he doesn’t expect is to give his heart to the woman, too. Or for the woman to run away with it and force him to follow.

Oakley needed a kidney in order to live and she was lucky in that Pace had an extra one to give. Pace was former military whose life was changed forever by a bomb. But this man didn't let anything get him down. Not his rotten upbringing, not his leech of a mom and sister, not even losing part of his legs. He was sweet, kind, generous, and extremely loving. After falling for Oakley before he'd even officially met her, when he found out he could help her, he couldn't get to her fast enough. And from surgery to recovery, these two fell into such an easy way of loving each other that I couldn't help but give their story all of the stars I possibly could.LLV has a way of creating stories that seem to follow a formula and yet I'm delightfully surprised every time. Not once do I feel like I've been here before or that her stories seem recycled. How she keeps giving me a fresh perspective truly baffles me, but I'm not complaining. From her, I can always expect super fine heroes and their equally superb heroines. Fast paced energy tinged with a bit of danger. This story had a stalker vibe and a scary climax, which at once felt strange and familiar, but it all added up to be one fantabulous read. I never wanted this story to end. I wanted to live in Pace's orbit for just a little while longer. I wanted more of him and Oakley and their amazing family. I'm blown away by how in love I am with these people and I feel so blessed to have found this author's books. After getting a preview of the next book in the series, Make Me, I'm so ready to dive back into LLV's words. If you love your romance hot and sweet with a bit of suspense to stir things up, you don't want to pass on this book. Pace is a dirty boy on blades (honestly, this character is PHENOMENAL) and Oakley's an absolute sweetheart!Blog | FB | Twitter | IG | Tumblr | Pinterest | BookBub

Oakley and Pace gave me those good vibes of a couple meant to be together from the beginning. I love the origins of their history and who was the first to fall for the other. Oakley was at a critical point in her life and Pace couldn’t have been a better knight. He was the total package and their chemistry was strong. The plot caught and kept my attention consistently. The pacing and writing solid. Character development was good. I admire LLVs style because she makes every one of her many books Oakley and Pace gave me those good vibes of a couple meant to be together from the beginning. How she comes up with such creative stories is something to be respected even if I’m not in love with every single book (though most are winners for me, don’t get me wrong). All in all this was another great addition to the KPD series. I can’t wait to read what comes next. Complementary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.

Oakley and Pace's book.As I was reading this book last night,my husband came into the room.I told him I was reading a love story where the heroine has end stage renal disease, that dialysis is no longer working for her and she is going to die if she does not get a kidney transplant asap. The hero is a wounded war vet who is now a bilateral BKA due to a road side bomb. He says to me" how is that a romance?"I shook my head at him and carried on.So,despite this grim outlook for this couple, LLV managed to write a beautiful romance between this unlikely pair. The couple have a prior history via the heroine's brother who was in the army with the hero. She used to send her brother care packages and always managed to send something to the hero in a roundabout way.She once send as a gag gift to her brother, a toy bunny rabbit ,and as her brother was playfully throwing the toy at the hero, that was when the roadside bomb went off. When they found the hero,he was clutching the toy in his hand, and that bunny became his talisman and went with him everywhere. One day as he was on his social media ,he saw an appeal from the heroine's father about a kidney donation for his critically ill daughter, who just happens to be his friend's sister. He decides to get tested to see if he is a possible match. The hero turns out to be a match donor to the heroine as her family members were non match. The day of the surgery he turns up at the hospital much to the surprise of his friend and his family. They are surprised and overjoyed ,the heroine's Mom immediately claims him as part of the family. From the moment these 2 locked eyes on each other just before the surgery, that was it, and you saw the progression of their romance. The hero was so besotted with the heroine, you jyst know that he would do anything for his love. There were parts that had me tearing up ugly tears.Great epilogue with the hero running the Boston marathon and cheering him on,his 1 year old baby girl, his wife and her family.

"Everything, when it came to Pace Vineyard, was big. His heart. His Cock. The orgasms that he gave." Tell me, who could read the synopsis for this book and not want to devour it? Her father is so desperate to save his baby-girl that he reaches out over social media, hoping for a miracle. As time is running out, the last person any of them expects to save the day shows up with a smile and a kidney.Pace is perfection. No, that's not just my opinion. Oakley thinks so as well. And if you were to take a poll, I'm sure that a large number of the women that love to ogle him in his tight-fitting KDP Motorcycle Patrol uniform would cast their vote too. He's got the goods and the heart to match. Who could resist?Well, there is one person who doesn't hold him in such high regard. Yeah, just wait until you meet that jerk. The line for those wanting to punch him in the face would wrap around the block a few times, if it actually existed. These amazing characters that the author has created feel like family. This story touched me deeply. I'm still sitting here patting my chest to ease the ache, with a smile on my face. I can't wait to meet Royal in Make Me. The line forms here...

Glad to see Trance and Viddy' s(from Kevlar To My Vest) kids were all grown up. H and h were both so strong, esp H, never did he feel self-conscious about his situation; instead, he saved h and encouraged her whenever she needed. Moreover, I liked how they stayed together and no push-away. Great epilogue, too!

Maybe 3.5I have such a hard time with this author's books lately. I'm honestly now sure why, or what changed...but they're so hit or miss for me. I didn't hate this one, but I can't say I loved it either. I have to say that the beginning was good. I enjoyed getting to know Pace. I actually really liked him. I'm not sure I really felt the connection between him and Oakley though. And I'm not quite sure that I ever really got to know Oakley. I enjoyed getting to know Pace. I actually really liked him. I'm not sure I really felt the connection between him and Oakley though. And I'm not quite sure that I ever really got to know Oakley. When she was first told she needed a new kidney, she was lamenting about what she was going to lose (her job, the life she currently had), which was fine, normal even...I had no problems with that. But she commented twice about how she had worked so hard to get her degree and the job she'd wanted...but I never know what that was, what she was really losing. It was all just vague and it left me feeling like I didn't really know her. I found the middle of the story to be a little boring, it seemed to drag a little. Oakley really wanted to sleep with Pace, but he was trying to take it slow and I was just a little bored with it. That was Oakley's biggest concern. Once things started to pick up with Pace's family showing up again, things started moving quickly and they got really interesting. The other complaint I have, is that the author is now focusing on the second generation characters, and because she has so many books, I'm having a hard time connecting the parents with their own books. And when the parents, aunts, uncles, MC club members start showing up, I feel like I need a diagram/family tree to keep all of them straight. Overall, this wasn't a bad book, and I'm sure to be in the minority on my feelings about it, so give it a try, you'll probably love it.

You NEED this book in your lives!!!It is PERFECTION!! Pace and Oakley are the BEST of the best together, the purest of #RelationshipGoals I tell you!!!! This series is fast becoming my LLV fav, with all these swoon worthy heroes! From the very first page I fell HARD for Pace. He was what my literally dreams are made of. The way he was introduced, and is connection with Oakley even was written so incredibly naturally, that I FELT fate weaving their lives together, and after he sees Trance’s plead and jumps right in even after all the pain he had endured so far, wow, just wow. How could we resist?! We truly can’t, serendipity working its way, sure, but the devotion and full on adoration? That was all Pace! *heart eyes*Something about Oakley Spurlock did things to my soul.Things that actually made me want to participate in life instead of just watch it pass me by.“I think so, too,” he admitted. “I’ve done nothing but hold onto that goddamn rabbit for years now. It’s been with me everywhere. And every time I have it in my hand, I think of you. And when I saw that you were sick, days away from dying, I had this feeling that urged me to do it. To help you. Now, look where I am. I’m with you.”My highlights are basically every single line that came out of his mouth, for real, this man was pure ‘book boyfriend’ gold! I believe he is now at the TOP of my fav LLV Heroes, and that’s saying a lot with how many times Ms. Vale made me fall ardently in love with her male characters. There is just something on how she writes them that they feel ideal, but yet so real and tangible, making them irresistible and oh so addictive.“You’re beautiful and kind. You’re everything that I’ve ever wanted in a woman. I used to dream about the perfect life. And there was always someone exactly like you in my dreams. Someone that would love me for me. (…) You’re the most beautiful and precious thing I’ve ever had in my life.”Oakley, daughter of one of my fav couples, Viddy and Trance, is just as fantastic as her parents were, I loved everything about her, from her quirks, to her bluntness, her sweetness and her passion, and as ever with Lani Lynn Vale’s female main characters, she was so relatable, that we can’t help but feel like she’s part of us, and feel right there with her and for her in her intense scenes. She was just as devoted and passionate as Pace, and gave herself so freely to this man and their feeling immediately after meeting, but we truly felt why, because it was meant to be. They we always meant to be. Proof in point, him being the perfect match for her kidney, and saving her life, just like in a way, she – even unknowingly – saved his. And they got each other in the end. Talk about Fate, ‘Silver Lining’, ‘Full Circle’ kind of thing. Epic love story right here!“I love when you smile at me. I love when you throw yourself in my arms, knowing without a single doubt in your mind that I’ll catch you. I love that you talk to me like I’m your closest confidant and your best friend. I love that you called your dad to talk about us and not your mom. I love that you love me.”I’d Rather Not, with its perfect balance of emotional charge that brings tears to your eyes, but you know without a doubt it will be worth it; funny and lighthearted moments that leave you warm and happy; steamy, scorching hot sex scenes and moments that will leave you hot and bothered; and that trademark Lani Lynn Vale gripping suspense, that give you heart palpitations and right on the edge of you seats, this book was without a doubt one of my favorite reads of this year. So packed full of deliciously intriguing and enticing secondary characters – beside the Trance and Viddy’s scenes which I soaked up to the max, lol – like Ford, Justice and Lock, that leave us begging to know their story, these books are as addictive as they get. Case in point I NEED of their books NOW!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3“I’d give up my life for just one of your breaths,”“Keep dreaming, Pace.” He squeezed me tight.“I don’t need to dream, baby. I’m already living the perfect life.” ARC kindly provided by the author via Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review For full review with Release Blitz check out my Blog Post,http://gisspotreviews.com/index.php/2...

This one really pulled me in from the start. I liked that Pace was smitten with Oakley and he didn't know her, just what he could glean from Ford. I hated that Pace had to go through the accident and what happened afterward, you could tell it affected him in many ways. Later when he was on the mend and back to living a life I was in awe as that he didn't even think twice about getting tested to see if he was a match for Oakley nor about giving her one of his kidneys. Now you wouldn't think that something so invasive like this would change his life like it did, but giving away his kidney was the best thing for Pace. It brought him back to his friend Ford, brought Ford's family to him (loved how they immediately adopted him) and it also brought him Oakley. Their romance was slow, but I think it needed to as both had issues. They danced around their issues for a bit, but once they addressed them it was full speed ahead with Oakley's family firmly in their corner.I could have done without the drama at the end, but when Pace was getting to Oakley...man got to me. I was so glad that these two were able to find their HEA and take full advantage of it!!

It’s a true romance deeply rooted in fate, family and friendship! While I’d Rather not is a feel good story, there is still plenty of drama and some unexpected twists that will keep readers (and Pace & Oakley) on their toes.Lani Lynn Vale . . . I took that little bit off because I was left with the question of why and what of the wife, is she going to show up later????As far as the story goes I loved Pace, I mean this guy is so freaking great it ain't funny. The things he says and does to show his love...swoon. I loved loved loved seeing Oakley's parents (maybe too much) Viddy is still one of my favorite female characters in LLV world. I appreciated Oakley's concerns and fears and thought the way Pace addressed them was awesome. The things he says and does to show his love...swoon. I loved loved loved seeing Oakley's parents (maybe too much) Viddy is still one of my favorite female characters in LLV world. I appreciated Oakley's concerns and fears and thought the way Pace addressed them was awesome. Have I mentioned how much I loved Pace?!? Another great addition to the seriesBTW since I saw a review commenting on it....Don't try to connect the dots in the family tree. Yes, most of the characters have shown up in a book before but that's not the important part of the story. I found since I stopped worrying about how they fit in the family tree I have enjoyed the stories more.

Oakley is a lot like Viddy, I thought this slow burn romance was fantastic and wanted more. Pace was a different type of hero and he has a certain charisma that jumps off of each page. Love this series.

This book had everything that made me feel!! I was sad, happy, hopeful, scared and most of all in love with Pace and Oakley!! I have loved all of the books in this series, but this one tugged at my heart strings. I had just finished reading Trance and Viddy to refresh my memory, so I remembered how much I loved their story. If you’re looking for a sweet sassy sexy laugh out loud read with characters that will make your heart melt then this is the book for you. Lani Lynn Vale creates characters that just feel so real. The banter is off the charts. Oakley and Pace were perfect for each other both in body (specifically kidney) and soul. Throw in Pace’s crazy mother and sister....a jerk of a boss and you have shenanigans galore. This book is the perfect read while lounging at the pool or just curled up on your couch. I am still riding the high of everything Spurlock hours after finishing this. This family has always been my favorite of LLV's characters, so I was stoked when I saw we were getting the first book with the offspring of them. Phenomenal read and I can't wait for the next Spurlock child to get their own book so I can live in their world a little longer ♥ I am still riding the high of everything Spurlock hours after finishing this. Yep! I loved this one. A war hero, a double amputee, now working as a KPD police officer. They make a terrific couple and the story shows how their relationship grows and peaks.Their family and friends add to the fun with great dialogue and bantering, plus a nasty guy as always to add a little drama.Tears of fun and emotion, and lots of laughs. A great read!

Even when she was at her worst she never really have up. She always smiled and tried to be realistic. I was so happy to see her view herself as more by the end of the book.

Rating: 2.5 starsThe creative titles and general overall unique, unusual ideas and backdrops that pop up in this author’s steamy romantic reads always make me do a double when she has a new release. Goodness, her covers and synopsis alone are really something in and of themselves. However, as much as I absolutely loved the circumstances/heart touching way Pace and Oakley, the main couple met, interacted, and the direction their relationship was headed, I felt their switch at halfway from innocent, charming, slow burn, sugary sweet to too OTT smex didn’t mesh. To the point it felt completely out of synch. It felt like someone wrote the first half then handed it over to someone else. At 57%, I realized I’d rather not keep reading because I felt those two different halves of this romantic tale didn’t fit as a whole all that well. It was mainly because of how the latter part was scripted and not just because steam was added. I can take the heat, folks. I just need it to flow and feel natural. If you like a slow paced, sweet, emotional, endearing first half followed by triple x talking, graphic smex in the second part, you’ll find that here. Oakley came across too repetitive drooling over Pace’s private parts in an embarrassing middle school kind of way in the latter half. She went from being a brave, resilient, mature woman, who was mesmerized by Pace’s handsome face and overall awesomeness, to staring and inwardly commenting about his manly goods (when he wasn’t looking). Pace pretty much started doing the same towards her. I felt awkward and embarrassed for both of them. I sensed their lovebird connection, instant attraction, and sizzling chemistry right from the start. I didn’t need things to take a turn in such an immature direction. As always, I wish this author continued writing success. I enjoy reading a lot of her books. Just this time around I felt the writing in the second part didn’t do this awesome, perfect for each other, main couple justice. The villain setup irked me, as well. I felt too many manly men were tiptoeing around that character, which enabled him to continue to walk all over everybody, including women. Family connections or not, I’m used to my alpha men in romantic reads not putting up with that type of behavior.Title: I’d Rather Not, Series: KPD Motorcycle Patrol (Book 3), Pages: 368, stand-alone but part of a series, good guy hero, sugary sweet heroine, first half was better. They just add to the charm of the story and this story is a blockbuster. Incredibly likeable characters and an important detail included, kidney transplants and the giving nature of a donor.Pace has known about Oakley for years, since he was stationed in Afghanistan with her brother Ford. He loved when Ford got care packages from Oakley because he got to talk about her, see her photos, get some of the goodies from the care package, and right before his life changed, he got a little stuffed bunny that he kept through the years. Right after he grabbed the little bunny, there was an explosion where he lost his two feet, legs amputated below the knee.Years later, Oakley’s kidneys failed, and after years of waiting for a transplant without success, it was apparent that her time was done. When Pace found out, he got his blood work done and came to offer one of his kidneys. Fortunately, he was a match and the transplant got done. What starts out as gratitude, continues into friendship and then into love. Not for Pace, though, because he has had a crush on Oakley from afar for years. This was a wonderful, warmhearted story. Pace’s generosity is outstanding on top of his personal body loss. His character shines in this story, his care for Oakley, how he cheered her up right before the operation when he saw she was freaking out. He is an intrinsically good person, with good intentions, willingness to give and help. In my book, he’s a hero through and through. I loved seeing how they clicked, how they needed each other, they were fated to each other, joined by a shared kidney. It felt like kismet!Oakley and Ford’s family fold Pace into their family and make him a part of it. This was great because Pace’s mother and sister are rabid witches who don’t care to screw someone’s life in order to make theirs easier. They’re like poisonous snakes who appear every once in a while to harass Pace and Oakley. There’s also another important enemy, Sergeant Jackson, who hates Pace with a passion we don’t understand. He frequently appears in the book to harass Pace, stalk both him and Oakley. With all these aspects, the story is lively, entertaining, a page-turner where we enjoy Pace and Oakley’s falling in love, their sexy times, the family times where Oakley’s mother smothers Pace with kindness and attention, and Pace’s work woes. He’s admitted into Kilgore’s special motorcycle police squad and he gets to wear the sexy, tight-fit uniform that is such a great showplace for his assets. Really, this story leaves you smiling and with a feel-good feeling once you’re finished.

BUT to get the feels that this book will give you, to have your world shattered and sit on the edge of your seat, the previous books need to be read before this... and I'm not talking the KPD series, I'm saying the whole shebang.. Boomtown on. We fell in love with Oakley when she called 911 to get patched into Trance's radio to tell him that "Fort ate her darts"... at that point that little girl had a bit of our hearts. Now, years later little Oakley is all grown up, but facing the ticking clock of death. She needs a kidney, or she will die, and in his desperation Trance took to social media and put it out there that his baby girl needed help. It was this post that Pace sees and immediately jumps into action to see if he can give her his kidney... he doesn't realize that this is just the beginning and his kidney isn't the only thing he will give her.I had teary eyes probably for over half of this story. This book had me on the edge of my seat, biting nails, gripping my phone desperate for the next word, next page, and next chapter. When I finally reached the end of the last sentence all I can think about are the feels this book gave me. This was such an amazing read, LLV has the ability to make this so much more than a story, she has the ability to turn this into a journey, a movie in your head, something that you are very invested in. I loved every bit of this journey, even that sad parts. I give this 5 amazing stars.*****************Review by: Melanie(5 stars)Oakley! Yes we are getting Oakley's book, a character I have loved but rarely read about since the cutest conversation ever when she phoned her daddy Trance at work in his book all that time ago. Oakley is dying.. noooooo, but her brother Ford's army buddy, Pace steps up to help, despite having his own issues. He has never met Oakley but has been fascinated with her for many years thanks to the things she did for Ford when they were on tour together. The whole family instantly loves Pace, not just for what he is doing for Oakley but because he is just genuinely a nice guy, despite his crappy upbringing. Oakley and Pace obviously have chemistry from the get go, but it is genuine attraction or just a hero worship/damsel situation? I love, love, and yes I'll say it again LOVE Laniland and I am thrilled we're getting to see the kids' stories and of course glimpses of their parents; characters I already loved from their books. Another great read I managed in one sitting because who can put an LLV book down unless you absolutely have to?! 5 stars yet again, and I can't wait for the next one!
