Perky
One hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five, alright? Five years ago...) I let my boyfriend take, let's just say... compromising pictures of me.(Shut up. It made sense at the time).Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and, well, you can guess what happened. That's right.I'm a meme. A really gross one. You've seen the pictures. And if you haven't - don't ask. And don't look!As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.So. I'm done. It's time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you five years ago?Especially when he's a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every political roadie's dream, right? I'm one in a crowd.Except to this day, he swears he didn't do it. Pursued me for months after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back. And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred years ago.Okay. Fine. Five. But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the emotional feels, doesn't it?I can't wait to punch him in the feels. All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of him in... delicate positions, and bring him down. That's it. Nothing more.Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.At least, that's how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something worse than sexting.I fell in love with him. Again.

Perky's relationships and the dynamics with Mallory and Fiona were so entertaining to read that I didn't want to finish this story, but I wanted to savour it as long as I could. The three characters just complimented one another so well, and the fact that they've been best friends since primary school just makes their relationships even richer because of the history and memories they have with one another. The bantering between the characters was just brilliant! Then Parker appears at Mallory and Will's rehearsal, rehearsal dinner and then all hell breaks loose. The attraction, chemistry and love is still strong between Persephone and Parker. But, how can you forgive someone who you think betrayed you and your trust in the most heinous of ways? This story is about listening, finding out the truth and reclaiming what's always been yours. I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading Fiona's book.

Perky is another laugh-out-loud, sexy romantic comedy from Julia Kent, and you do not want to miss this fun, feel-good second-chance romance. Parker and Persephone, aka Perky, were deeply in love when he broke her heart and caused her to become an infamous meme. They haven’t seen or talked to one another in five years when they’re reunited at their friends’ wedding, and the sparks fly and chemistry sizzles as soon as they’re in the same room again. I loved this one. It's a funny read. Persephone (Perky) is a wild card, you never really know what she's going to do. Her friends are just as fun as her. The banter between all of characters is funny. Perky was the unfortunate victim of a meme with her in it having been shared all over. She blames Parker, her ex, for it. It's been five years since she has seen or talked to Parker. They are reunited at Will and Mallory rehearsal rehearsal dinner. If you read Fluffy, Will and Mallory in this one a I loved this one. There's a lot of tension between Parker and Perky. Parker keeps claiming he didn't release the meme. Parker seems to be a sweet decent guy and I kind of sided him with pretty early on in the story. Perky's body is definitely ready to forgive and move on with Parker but her head wants revenge. I was so rooting for these two but really wasn't sure if they would get their happy ever after. . The ending has me ready and waiting for Feisty.

This awesome sequel to the hilarious Fluffy brings all our favourite characters together again. Persephone, or Perky as she prefers to be called, is in a dilemma.  The man she loved but who betrayed her is back after 5 years of being apart and her hormones are in a state of quantum flux and her heart doesn't know whether to reach out or run for cover.Perky's trust in Parker Campbell, now the esteemed Congressman Parker Campbell, was torn to shreds when she believed that he posted a topless picture of her on the internet. He has always claimed his innocence but Perky just couldn't get her head around the fact that he may not have done it.  Five long years later and the pair are reunited for Will and Mallory's wedding rehearsal rehearsal dinner (no I did not make a mistake, she is actually having a rehearsal of her rehearsal dinner!).  Perky has a plan but is revenge what she really wants?Perky is a great character.  She has an 'I don't care attitude' but deep down she is a very vulnerable, mistrusting person.  Parker has worked his way up through the political ranks and is now a congressman. One thing that never changed was his love for Persephone (he is one of only two people who call her that) and he will keep claiming his innocence until she final listens to him. As with any Julia Kent book there is mischief and mayhem in abundance.  Perky's brilliant idea doesn't quite go according to plan and Parker seems to have turned into the Grim Reaper! Will and Mallory are stuck in the middle, although Will is awesome when he defends Perky.  If ever you need an excuse not to have a voice activated recording app on your phone, then just remember poor Perky! A definite must-read this summer.  It's not essential but I would highly recommend reading Fluffy first, and don't forget Little Miss Perfect - the prequel to Fluffy. Looking forward to seeing what 'Feisty' has in store for us!ARC courtesy of Julia Kent.

She was so unpredictable at times, wild and also not letting any men too close after Parker’s betrayal.Perky and Parker have been in love and it crashed before they even had a chance to build something more. From this moment, Perky hated him with a fire of a thousand suns because her life was ruined. Hopefully she was resourceful and not letting it to bring her down.Until she met him so many years later, after she finally found her balance and watching her best friend engaged and preparing for her wedding. And anything went wrong, all bets were off and war was coming. I adored how she went from hate to lust and love, and her actions spoke louder than words. Parker was on a mission, determined to prove that he wasn’t involved, and having too much fun to push her buttons and to ignite the fire. Because these two together, it was just explosive.Once again I’ve been totally hooked and I adored how the author’s mind. It was tremendously hilarious, sexy and so offbeat. I had a freaking blast. It was so much fun, hilarious and totally not politically correct for sure... but so damn good! I laughed so hard it hurt, the author wrote stories so preposterous but it.worked.every.time.  It was so well rounded, very brilliant and subtle. It seemed like light-hearted but it was definitely more. And the ending… the icing on the cake. I cried from laughing so hard, truly.A very promising story to come. I can’t wait.

Perky is a second chance, steamy romcom with a message about forgiveness and friendship. Persephone (nicknamed Perky) is just a tad stubborn, but full of passion. The more you learn about the betrayal, you understand why she walked away and had to protect her heart.  If she had stayed it wouldn't have taken much to give in to Parker and his talented tongue.Parker is a smooth talking congressman, everyone loves him actually, but when he's around Persephone he's a sweet talking man (see where were your thoughts regarding Parker's tongue ). The temperature rises and I can see why Persephone has a hard time keeping her hands (or lips) off the man. From the very beginning he starts out apologizing and reitorizes that he did not betray her. He stays true and he is a very likeable character.Even though Perky can be read as a standalone, I will encourage those who haven't read Fluffy to pick it up. First, because it's a great book, second, because there are a lot of references I believe you will enjoy more if you are familiar with it. Like--Mallory is currently planning her wedding with Will, whom we meet in Fluffy. Persephone hasn't seen Parker for five years since he currently resides in another state, but Will knows him, wasn't aware of the falling out between them, but has invited Parker to stand in as one of his groomsmen. Hence, time for a second chance with the girl who ghosted him after a huge mess.Persephone spends quite a bit of time talking about Parker's arrival in town with her two best friends, Mallory and Fiona, which sometimes makes reading Perky like watching a "Sex and the City" episode. Both hilarious and highly entertaining. When Parker and Persephone are on the page together, dim the lights, grab a glass of wine and prepare for the feels. The magic between them is like nothing I've ever read.

A delightfully funny story with unforgettable characters, laugh out loud moments and many other emotions this author makes you feel. Perky is loved and Parker has a lot of schmoozing to do to get her back in his life, being a politician it shouldn't be too hard, right? I received a complimentary copy and this review is voluntary.

Laugh out Loud funny- Lana ~White Hot ReadsPerky and Parker are hilarious and hot at the same time. Perky is hell bent of destroying Parker's life after hers was ruined 5 years ago. Parker denies that he didn't do it but Perky wont believe him. The attraction and pull that these two still have after 5 years apart is so apparent but will it allow Perky to forgive and believe. All the usual suspects are in this book from Fluffy and I can't wait for Feisty's story next.

4.5 Stars! Perky, Fiona, and Mal are like women after my own heart! The names they call Parker are the reasons I own so many adult coloring books (this is entirely a true story)! I think that's what makes this trio of ladies so special and why as characters they really shine. I think some of my favorite things about Julia Kent's writing is that they things her characters do, say, and or think... are the same things that run through my mind, well some time. Other times the things they say are just so outlandish I'm left with my mouth agape or hooting out laughter. I found myself shaking my head and agreeing with Perky so much only to be flipped upside down and have her say something completely off from left field and I'm left scratching my head. There are so many one-liners, so many zingers that I highlighted thinking these would make fabulous teasers! Seriously, Miss Kent can wing those wisecracks one after another until her fingers just have to be sore!I'm sure you're reading this thinking where's the Rom in this RomCom but it's totally there... in abundance!! At first there was just some Rom sprinkled in with the Com but once the revengines started running the Rom started to get a bit heavier. Through the first half I was fully in Perky's corner cheering her on... calling for Parker's head on a skewer! Ever so stealthily he won me over until I was thinking Perky had to have it wrong.... THEY were violated. I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.Check out my Blog: Next Book ReviewCheck out my Facebook Page: Next Book Review Facebook

Perky is a hilariously addictive thrill ride of the heart. Just when you think you have things figured out, here comes another twist in our lovely story that throws things into disarray. I savored every minute of watching these characters come to terms with their real feelings while being a helping hand and open heart for each other. Just when you think you have things figured out, here comes another twist in our lovely story that throws things into disarray. I savored every minute of watching these characters come to terms with their real feelings while being a helping hand and open heart for each other. Nothing is as powerful or as beautiful as a true friend. However, in the end, the only person who can truly pick out the solemn truth about our circumstances is our own heart. As we grapple with our feelings and how to live with them, we must remember to see the world around us through our heart. No matter how painful the truth is to see sometimes, it is our own only saving grace. Perky has never truly forgotten or given up on her past. She won’t say his name outright, but her heart whispers throughout each day for the one she longs for with every fiber of her being. No matter the horrible circumstances that tore them apart nothing is truly irrevocable when it comes to the inner workings of the heart. Their bond is one that you don’t find often let alone in one good lifetime, so when Fate throws them together, Perky is left reeling. She must remain true to her heart, but what if it has always betrayed her? What if it lives within with him which would explain why she has felt so empty and lost for the past five years. Can she move on in order to erase the paralyzing pain and emptiness that constantly surrounds her, or will she find that giving in to her heart’s desires is her only saving grace?I was truly amazed and hypnotized by the incredible connection that Perky and Parker have even five horrible years later. The heart know what it wants whether we choose to listen to it or ignore its every prompting. There is nothing more breathtaking then watching two soulmates and best friends find each other and reach for the love they so desperate need and want. This story ripped my heart out and yet left me with a deafening hope that I was not able to walk away unchanged. These two will always live within my heart as a incontrovertible example of how love and the heart will always lead us to where we need to be if we will only hand the reigns over.Julie Kent has done it again! She has created an incredible story that will delight and entertain and teach so much if we will only listen and feel. We can only live life once, so why not live it to the fullest which is why Perky is such a wonderful story. What we find within these pages is the strength and the courage to live life the way it was meant to be lived with hope, love, and faith. This is an unspeakable and stunning gift that will never get old or fade into the sands of time. It will remain in the forefront of your heart and soul every day as long as we breath the air around us. That is a legacy that we can only hope for!

Julia Kent is one of my go to authors in the romantic comedy genre. There is just something about her style of writing that draws me in and I devour her books. I absolutely loved the premise for Persephone’s (Perky) story. Perky was everything that I hoped it would be and so much more. Perhaps because Ms. Kent has such an ability to write about characters who are human, engaging and realistic that you cannot help but be drawn in to the story she weaves. Betrayed years before by Parker, the man she loved, Perky is determined to seek her revenge. After all he pursued her for months after she dumped him after his betrayal. II so felt for Perky and the embarrassment and humiliation she has been made to live with over the last 5 years and I totally understand her need for revenge. Although a hilarious read it is also a story of a second chance at love, of taking a leap of faith. The secondary characters were an absolute hoot and it was great to catch up with Will and Mallory. Reconnecting at the rehearsal dinner Parker still maintains his innocence and he still has feelings for Perky. Unfortunately Perky’s head is set on revenge but her body and heart are still drawn to Parker. Which will win out head or heart?I fell hard and fast for Parker, he ticked all my boxes and was totally swoon worthy.  This is a gem of a book and in my humble opinion Ms.Kent has another winner on her hands.

How was she to know her post sex glow and naked breasts were the foreground to his Mom's dogs getting it on in the background? No one would guess it would become an internationally famous meme. That hundreds of thousands would see her naked and laugh. Both heart broken and humiliated, she fled for her hometown. Parker insists he didn't do it, but he had the only copy. She blocked all contact with him and is nursing her broken heart, betrayal and altered perception of men with her two best friends. After taking on a job as a barista, she changed her name to Perky and tries to put her past behind her between snickered comments when she is recognized. A team is hired to help purge her photo from the internet by her parents with limited success.Fast forward five years. Will and Mallory are having their rehearsal rehearsal dinner so the bridal party can get to know each other. Who shows up but Congressman Parker Campbell of the great state of Texas - as a groomsman! After a hot kiss followed by Perky punching Parker chaos reigns as it only can in a Julia Kent book.So many laughs mixed in with so many crushed feelings will keep you turning pages to see how it is resolved from the opening to the epilogue. Savor Perky's story and Parker's second chance.

Never does she expect to run into the man who caused all that pain. But one thing is clear, she has nothing but revenge on her mind. The banter between Perky and Parker is always fun and the chemistry between them is so very clear, but how can you forgive? How can you forget? While always fun to read the banter, the wild, off the wall facts (yes google was my friend quite a bit in this story lol), there was a whole lot of depth in this story. Can you ever love again when you know you found the one you were truly meant for? The right for privacy in such a large social media world? Does that even exist in this day and age? Perky must learn to forgive and she must learn to use her power for good. Will she? But I will forever remember the video of the spider and that will have me gasping with laughter...and cringing because....well you will just have to read it to know what I'm talking about. And for the record, Will reinforces why he will forever be my Julia Kent book boyfriend :)

This is Perky & Parker’s story... They end up being a bit physical, but they don’t end up talking much about the problem that caused their original separation, but instead spend some delicious time in the coat closet...Later, a visit with friends to Taco Cubed is in order, where the perfect ratio of tacos to toppings is necessary, & where there’s talk of vertical tacos, & they end up seeing Parker yet again...Interspersed with exes and bad MILs from the past... Ugh...Perky tries to understand Parker's past behavior by looking at paranormal soup & conspiracy theories... But nothing fits. There's a great line that says, "he's either a blazing narcissist or entirely innocent..." Which is it? Was she framed by him five years ago? Or was he framed somehow & ended up taking the blame for what happened by error? Was he framed as the one who framed her? The mind swirls with confusion...Is three shots of espresso & half a pack's worth of nicotine enough to digest & make sense of this possible information? This makes the story really interesting, the kind where you just can't put it down, you must find out... Have the last five years alone been a total waste of time? *sigh* What should be done now? Revenge or reclamation?I got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Of course nothing ever goes as planned with Perky and her two best friends but the results will have you laughing out loud.

I adore the fun and witty banter between Parker and Perky and could feel their frustration with each other, the love that never died and their strong connection to one another. Then add in a mix of outrageous friends, enemies and a crazy family? Perky is pure MAGIC!

This was stupendously funny and, at times, heart tugging. Perky (Persephone) was deeply in love with Parker—the forever kind. Too bad that every time they come into contact they end up in some type of closet in extremely close contact. I love this series and can’t wait for Feisty’s story!

Perky is a hilarious ride. I was rooting for Persephone and Parker from the minute they showed up on the page together. Perky is as crazy in this book as she was in Fluffy, and Parker is dreamy in every sense of the word. Who doesn't love a guy who carries a relentless torch for someone for five years?!?! Read this book! You won't be sorry!

I fell in love with Perky in Fluffy (that's certainly a funny sentence. lol) and couldn't wait to get my hands on her book. I was dying to see how things with Parker went so wrong and how he was going to make it right. It was immediately clear to me that Parker was completely and utterly head over heels for Persephone, aka Perky and that he was determined to show her that he was not involved with ruining her reputation 5 years earlier and he was not afraid to pull out all of the stops. He heavily leaned on their sexual compatibility/history to try to get back into her good graces long enough that he would be able to explain and win her back which made for some great sexual tension!!! I adore Perky and all of her friends, including her poor co-worker Raul. When they were all together it never failed to have me in stitches. They gave amazing banter but were also extremely supportive and just overall fantastic. Perky and Parker together were off the charts sexy and you could feel the love they had for each other throughout the book. My only complaint is that we didn't really get a lot of growth with them as a couple in the present outside of them working past that one issue.  Their connection was more implied through the bits and pieces of their past that we read about and less about where they were in life now and I imagine that the connection I saw between them would have only been that much greater had I seen more of it outside of the reconciliation. Now I impatiently wait for Feisty, aka Fiona's story!!

From the moment readers were introduced to Perky in Ms. Kent’s previous book, Fluffy, I knew she was going to leave a lasting impression...and she definitely did that. From her tell-it-like-it-is attitude, to her strong will and her even stronger support of her friends, Perky’s an unforgettable and immensely appealing heroine whose second chance romance started out with a bang. Add in a charming politician (not easy to find nowadays) man trying to earn his way back into her heart and you end up From the moment readers were introduced to Perky in Ms. Kent’s previous book, Fluffy, I knew she was going to leave a lasting impression...and she definitely did that. Add in a charming politician (not easy to find nowadays) man trying to earn his way back into her heart and you end up with a sensual read full of heart and soul.Persephone Tsongas has lived a life full of dramatic highs and lows. Coming from average beginnings, to her family winning the lottery, it’s clear that Perky’s lived a full life and each event has made her who she is today. After an unforgettable first meeting with Parker, him acting as her lawyer after she was arrested at a protester, their connection heated up quickly as opposites definitely attracted. A few months of steamy encounters saw them grow ever closer until a hurtful and humiliating meme starring her hit the internet and ended their romance just as suddenly as it started. Years have passed but there are still moments where she gets recognized and it fuels her desire for revenge against the man she once gave everything to. When they come face-to-face once again at her friend’s rehearsal rehearsal dinner the feelings are just as intense as ever and it sets them on a path of forgiveness for him and revenge for her...but sometimes things don’t go as planned as the heart wants what it wants. Through it all Perky’s the kind of heroine you want to be, the kind you want to hang out with, and the kind that sets the bar for others. In her interactions with Parker she gives as good as she gets, doesn’t cower when people bring up the meme, and doesn’t hold back when admitting her feelings. She admits to feeling conflicted as she’s still in love with Parker while hating him for what happened to her and I appreciated her honesty as it made the story stronger without unnecessary melodrama. Along with a crackling romance with Parker was an equally entertaining connection to her friends Mallory and Fiona. This trio was delightful to see interact as their banter was fun and reminiscent of what most girlfriends talk about. They mocked each other at times but would support and defend one another whenever necessary and it was a highlight of the story.Parker Campbell looks like the perfect politician as he’s handsome, good with people, and comes from a “good” family...plus he has an exciting background story of saving a life. It all adds up to a memorable and delicious hero who’s a bit reserved when compared to Perky, but their differences seem to melt away when they’re together. Parker was drawn to Persephone the minute he met her, accelerated their relationship as he knew she was the one for him, which made her sudden abandonment of their promising future so hurtful. For years he’s wanted to talk to her about the meme, plead his innocence, but she’s blocked him from her life. When given the chance to be groomsman at her best friend’s wedding he jumps at the opportunity to finally tell the truth and reclaim her once again in a sultry connection that builds as the story progresses. Parker’s a likable hero, a truly good guy who likes Persephone just the way she is and takes pride in her accomplishments. He’s steady and sure but around her he’s quick to lose control as they have a sizzling connection and it made for an exhilarating ride to HEA.Perky and Parker make the most of their second chance in this fun and flirty tale full of heart and soul as each opens up about what happened years ago and what they hope will happen now. Perky’s a strong-willed heroine but there are flashes of vulnerability when putting her heart on the line after years of humiliation that endeared her to me. Parker’s just as likable and I applaud how supportive he always is of her, especially when his mother tries to tear her down as she’s a rather vicious and manipulative woman. Separately they’re appealing and as a couple they’re immensely likable as they’re the perfect balance with sweet and sensual interactions that had me rooting for them every step of the way. Along with this likable main couple was an equally appealing cast of secondary characters from Perky’s friends Mallory and Fiona to her newest defender Will, Parker’s friend and Mallory’s fiancée. Will boldly stood up for Perky early on and it made me like him even more as he didn’t let the bro-code blind him to Perky’s pain. With so much to like here it’s the relationship between the three girlfriends that’s the best part as it drives the narrative and is realistic and empowering in its honesty. Their interactions gave us deeper insight into each character and got me excited for each new installment with the exhilarating conclusions found in each of these books. From start to finish Ms. Kent has cleverly crafted another winner with likable and realistic characters that put a smile on my face while warming my heart.

When I first learned of this book, I was very excited to read about such a strong and independent woman. Unfortunately, my excitement waned very quickly once I started the book and I'm afraid that I'm going to be the dissenting opinion among the early reviewers because I didn't enjoy this read!First and foremost, this is not a standalone romance! In order to have things make sense, you must have at least read Fluffy, if not it and Little Miss Perfect. Neither the blurb nor the promotional materials make reference to that fact, and I really think that they should have.Secondly, the rekindled romance got lost amidst Perky's obsessive need for revenge! I get that she was angry, and she absolutely had every right to be, but when it takes roughly 75% of the book for her to finally start getting her head out of the sand and believing Parker, that's a bit much for me. There was so much wasted time! If she had heard Parker out earlier, they could have worked together to figure out who wanted her ruined in that manner, and that, I believe, would have been a more enjoyable read!Thirdly, I didn't find the book that funny! Yes, there were some witty one liners, but that was about it for me. I found the entire situation too hurtful and important to be truly funny. The book wasn't a total loss though. The writing, when I wasn't objecting to situations in the book, was engaging. The overall subject matter in the story was actually very relevant to the world at large today, and I appreciated the topic overall. It will make for interesting talking points with my oldest daughter, as she prepares to leave home for the first time to make her way in the wide world.I think that this was a case of me just not being a good fit for this book. I know others have really enjoyed this, and I know that I am still a fan of this author's works, but this one just missed the mark for me. I hope to be able to read the follow up novel as well, and hopefully turn my opinion of the "series" around!

Honestly, I keep asking myself why in the world I waited to read a book by Julia Kent. This one is my 2nd, and it might even be better than the first one! Usually I only update my Goodreads status when I've stopped reading the book for a while because I'm having to go do something else. But one night while I was reading in bed, I kept disturbing my dogs to reach over and grab my phone to update with another hilarious example from the book. This book was laugh out loud from beginning to end. Even the sexy steamy scenes had funny bits, making me want my own Parker! The characters are hilarious, and the connection between our couple is perfect. I honestly don't have any issues I can think of with the book. It was just all good. In fact I would have sat and read from the very first page to the last page in one sitting if I didn't have to do life things like eat, sleep, go to work, celebrate my stepmom's birthday, babysit my niece and nephew, etc. Now, here are a few of the things I had to stop and make a status update on Goodreads because they made me laugh so hard. There was a reference to Dolores Umbrage from Harry Potter when describing Parker's mom, and that came from Perky's parents! Mallory, who we met in book 1, Fluffy, has a thing about how tacos are supposed to be eaten. And when someone did something she didn't like, she said that "he didn't respect the taco". To that one of the group said it sounded like a complaint after a one stand with a date from Tinder. The sex toy factory worker parts were hilarious. And then, there is Raul who works at the coffee shop with Perky. He gets some of the best lines. I also now have learned about a brown starfish, and I might be traumatized for life. LOL!!! Once again at the end, like in the first book, we got an epilogue, or stinger as the author calls it, letting us get ready for how the next book will start. While these are all standalones, the characters are all parts of the stories, and you will want to read all of them, in any order, but just read them all!
