Interference (St. Michaels Duet, #1)
Brayden: I’m a goddamn prodigy. It’s true. Ask anyone. I threw my first curveball the day I was born. The whole damn town is waiting on me. To live up to my father’s famous name. To reach for the stars. All I want to reach for is her. But Ashley is the sweet addiction I can’t afford. She’s my best friend’s sister. Hell, she’s practically my little sister. For years, I’ve protected her from guys that want one thing. What happens now that I’ve turned into one of them? Who’s gonna shield her from the way I was made, from my little white lies and from what I’m about to become? My game plan sounds simple: Pitch my way into the Major League draft and stay out of Ashley Foster’s pants. That first part may be statistically difficult. The second feels damn near impossible. Ashley: From the moment we met, I knew he was trouble. The kind my mother sent me to find. The type that ruins you for any other brand. When we were young kids, I didn’t know what to call the frogs and butterflies that danced in my belly whenever Brayden came near. Now I know they have a name. Those three little words that could heal or destroy him. Before Brayden, my life was normal. And then it wasn’t. It couldn’t be. Ever again. How was I to know stealing his seat would change all our lives?Anger and forgiveness share two halves of the same coin. Our story might make you choose sides.

A unique painfully raw, thought provoking rollercoaster of a read. This book was so addictive. I really like Harlow’s writing style and I really got drawn into this story about Brayden and Ashley. This is a story of first love, the ups and the downs and everything in between and, while there is heartache, you are holding onto hope that it will all work out. The angst of this book builds and builds. I understand why this book is part of a duet. The story can not be contained in one book. This is a book that sticks with you long after you read and I cannot recommend this unforgettable story enough.

Let's see if I can try to articulate how I'm feeling. This is one of the best contemporary debuts that I have had the pleasure to read. This book absolutely enchanted me. I couldn't pull myself away from it. First of all, the thing that I noticed first when I started this novel was an impressive writing style. Especially for a first-time author. The prose flows effortlessly. It is almost like watching a movie unfold inside your head as opposed to stumbling over words trying to piece a story together. It was so fluid and natural. I devoured this book. The writing has such a smooth quality that I admire in a writer. The characters in this story are genuinely spectacular. I immediately loved them from the first page. Ashley and Brayden, the two main characters and love interests in the book, are written beautifully. They have incredible depth. When you are reading this story you feel like you know these characters. It's very intimate the way the author presents these characters to the reader. They feel absolutely tangible. They also have immense character growth throughout the story. The dialogue that the characters have in the book is also very well written. I am so eager to see how their growth plays out in the next book. The romance is a slow-burn that will make your heart ache. Your chest will actually feel physically hurt when you read about these characters and their love story. I really loved how drawn out and deep their love story was. Ashley and Brayden meet when they are around 12 years old when her family moves to town. They form a fast friendship over the love of books and Brayden becomes a staple in her family's life. Her brother and Brayden become best friends. The story starts off in those younger years and it progresses into high school. Seeing their relationship blossom from age twelve and then beyond really cemented how close these two were. Their romance started from a very special friendship so their story is so very emotional. Getting all of that backstory as part of the book and not just being told was really monumental in capturing the raw emotion that their romance stems from. I love that the book has dual POV of both Ashley and Brayden. I don't want to give much away about the plot of the story, but I will say that it will surprise you. There is a cliffhanger, but I have a feeling that the next book will be worth it. It's definitely a story that I would recommend. Overall, this book was a contemporary romance masterpiece. It captured a little piece of my heart. I expect such wonderful things from this author in the future and she has definitely garnered a lifetime fan out of me. I am so excited to read the second and final book in this series! I am chomping at the bits to devour it. More reviews on my blog: Novel Nerd Faction

There is only one other author that I know of, that gets down to the nitty gritty, in such a depth that you can barely crawl out of, but Harlow Cole's Interference is a freaking game changer. She has surpassed every expectation and more that I have ever had from an author. Ashley and Brayden's story is so unique with great dialogue and even better analogies. It will wreck you in the best sense of word. I am sorry this review is a mess, but I am so not okay from this story. I am wrecked and craving the rest like never before. I literally can not say anything else, or I am going to break. Seriously break.*** I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK*** REVIEWED FOR REVIEWS FROM THE HEART~ Ashley

We’re meant to suffer through them—those years that straddle the uncomplicated life of a child and the complex web of adulthood. They’re pre-programmed to blow chunks. Full helpings of angst and raging hormones, leave very few unscathed." ~ AshThis sums up the first half of the St. Michaels Duet. Interference takes place right at the cusp of our casts adulthood. Those years when all our dreams still seemed possible. The ones where we usually made the greatest memories as well as some of our greatest mistakes. I needed some time to recover and gather my thoughts after reading this. The story brought out an assortment of emotions for me leaving me a bit broken and definitely with a book hangover. We start in the now and are cast back to the beginning. Interference takes us back through the events that occurred that made the 'now' possible. The story itself was very easy to follow. The cast, for the most part, was easy to connect with and each member was well written. There were times I felt we spent more time in a scene than was necessary but in the end, I am glad for the quieter moments. They tied everything together even if I did not see it at the time. "Folks deserved to ride into hell on their own power."Brayden, at times, made the idea of forgiveness extremely hard. He was at the crossroads ~ the raging hormones, the pressure of living up to others expectations ~ That place where you want to be an adult but aren't quite sure how. I did have trouble with his character at times, he could be so extreme. After seeing his world I understood many of his reactions. Didn't approve of them but I got it.He was loved, truly loved, yet he still wanted that one thing he just could never seem to acquire ~ parental approval. Negative or positive it did not seem to matter. Anything that for a moment made him feel wanted, that he wasn't a castoff.IMO his instant "brotherly" connection to Soot was a bit of transference. They did make the best of besties."A tiny little monster with a real hard head."Ashley was a sweetie. I enjoyed her tomboy persona. She wasn't afraid to be who she was. Her presence a soothing balm for Brayden's inner monster. Joey ~ Ashley's bestie. The town gossip queen and trouble walking. I loved her.Nathan, Ashley's brother. was a quiet presence. He was in most of the story buy IMO his actions didn't really stand out until maybe the last few chapters. There was a reason for that. There are quite a few other cast members whose presence make a very strong impact on the story line. Some I wanted to toss into the lake so they had some time to cool their heels others I wanted to wrap in bubble wrap and protect from what I knew was coming.Overall a very intense read that kept me entertained and emotionally engagedIf you take a chance on one New Adult novel this yearLet it be this one

But Brayden knows admitting that he is falling for his best friend's little sister would cause a ripple effect that would ruin his future and hers... he is no good for her right now. He cycles through women constantly, never keeping one around for more than a night, and likes to party a little too much. He knows adding Ashley to that mix would only cause her heartache, and cause him to lose sight of his goals, and damage the future he has planned for them. But Ashley isn't a patient girl... she wants him in whatever way she can have him, and she is not taking his no's for an answer any longer! Suddenly keeping his hands off the girl of his dreams becomes a whole lot harder than he anticipated!Interference is a heart-wrecking little page-turner that had me mesmerized from beginning to end... once I met these two I just couldn't pry my eyes from their story. Love is complicated enough as it is, but you add in the fact the girl you want happens to be your best friends little sister, and that amps things up in the complicated column a whole lot more. Watching Brayden and Ashley fight their feelings for one another was torturous at times, the angst was high, and so was the sexual tension... these two had serious undeniable chemistry. But as with all forbidden relationships there are always complications... and these two stumbled into a mess I am not sure they will ever recover from. I am dying to see what happens for these two, cliffhangers are a killer sometimes! But I have a feeling this one will be well worth the wait! Highly recommend you get your hands on this beautifully crafted tale, it promises to put a squeeze on your heart that will be felt long after you swipe the last page.I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Like, this book and the story blew my mind. This is the story of an epic love between Brayden and Ashley. The book starts off in the present, with Ashley working at a restaurant/bar. One day, Brayden Ross comes in - Brayden, a famous MLB pitcher, approaches her and tries to talk to her. But there is bitterness and loss between them. What happens next, is the retelling of their relationship and how things come to be where they are at present. Ashley and Brayden meet around age 12, when Ashley's family moves to St. Michaels. There is a special connection between them instantly, and when Brayden meets Ashley's older brother, Nathan, the three become an insta-family. Over the years, Ashley harbors her deep feelings for Brayden, while simultaneously watching him start to get noticed for his baseball skills. As they all get older, Brayden realizes his "little sister" is not so little anymore. What follows is a heartbreaking tale that I literally have no other words for. I wanted so much for Ashley and Brayden to be together, but there was so much standing in their way. Brayden's family life is baggage to the max. He has so much pressure on him, plus family issues. The end of their story in book 1 is catastrophic. What can happen next? I will be eagerly waiting for August 1 when the second book of this duet comes out!Harlow Cole's writing is masterful. She was able to craft a tale that was so complex and detailed. I felt like I was in the book witnessing these things take place. She truly has a gift - the way this story is spun is magical and really sets it up for the ending to have a deep impact on the reader. OHHH man. Pick this one up if you love ANGST, coming of age stories, and amazing peripheral characters, and impossible love stories.

Ashley has always known Brayden, and she knew him even before he became very close friends with her brother Nathan. He always protected her and she always saw in him something more. Yet, he doesn’t look at her like that, even older and it’s quite difficult for her. Brayden doesn’t have an easy life and Ashley is the most important person in his life. And as he grows up, he realizes that he has very strong feelings for her. But he doesn’t want to face them, even if it means hurting her at the same time.It was a touching novel, but also very sad. Ashley and Brayden love each other but they are constantly tearing each other apart. I was curious to see them evolve and especially to discover what would become of them. The author allows us to follow them both one after the other and see what they really think about what is happening. When I started the novel, I thought it was a standalone, but I saw that it was finally a duology… Arghhhhhh I want the sequel now! I want to know and discover what happened in everyone’s lives and especially how things will change now!

This book was a home run for me! I love a good coming of age story! It’s so easy to forget the struggles of growing up in a small town where everyone knows your business. I really wanted to know what happened to Brayden and Ashely for them to act so weird in the first chapter.Brayden and Ashley are so different, in my opinion. Brayden is reckless and does whatever he wants. And that hurts Ashley. Ashley constantly tries to see the good in Braydon, but they fight a lot because of his behaviour. Even though a lot happened, I think that they were a good couple.A lot happened in Interference which made the book really interesting. I wanted to know how the book was going to end because I wanted to know whether or not there was going to be a future for Brayden and Ashley. I never thought the book was going to end the way it did, but it makes me want to read the sequel even more!

When I heard this was this authors debut novel, I was flabbergasted. I haven't read a book this well written and so soul sucking from a brand new author in forever. This story had me right from page 1 and I hated when I got to the last page and realized I still have too many questions. I'm hoping Stealing Home is just as good and answers it all for me.

Lawd help me, but Harlow Cole is straight up trying to KILL ME DEAD! I mean, I'm not clueless, I see it's the St. Michaels Duet, which means the odds of a cliffy are 100%, but still. See, she started this story of the present, where Ashley comes face to face with the man who not only broke her heart, but also broke her family, Brayden. And while she's busting her behind working more than one job, he's off living his dream as a professional baseball player. As they start to talk because he can't help himself & stay away from her, Ms. Cole takes us back to their past to see what transpired, and OMG! I was much better off not knowing, because now, I'm not sure there's anything that can raise Brayden up in my eyes, as I'm completely disgusted with him. He & Ashley were best friends as they grew up, until she caught feelings for him, but had to watch him sleep with anything that moves in High School, except her. He always rejected her, but chased any guy interested in her away. Until he finally admitted to himself that he had feelings as well, so he became her first. And then, he messed it all up in such spectacular ways that I can barely talk about him without some colorful metaphors. The end of the Blurb says:"Our Story might make you choose sides."There's no might about it, I'm choosing Ashley, so good luck selling Brayden to me, because he needed to try & fix things A LOT sooner, but guess what he was doing while playing ball?! Yeah, "hanging" out with all kinds of women that the paps got pictures of them out & about. Anyway, I'm going to need that conclusion, because I'm hoping Ashley throat punches him more than once! Yeah, I'm emotional but I was drawn in to this story like nobody's business, so bravo Harlow Cole, for keeping me so caught up in Ashley & Brayden's story that I'm still pissed off! I'll be very interested to see if you can redeem the giant selfish douchebag! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Please don’t misunderstand me, this is far from being a simple romance sports story. This story has all the feels and all the emotions of high school love at its highs and it’s lows. From friendships and love that one thought would last a lifetime, to lives and love being ripped apart. When you meet damaged Brayden and the new girl in town Ashley, you instantly root for their friendship. You begin to see the soothing balm that Ashley and her brother, who becomes his best friend, bring to this young boy. As the years go by, baseball becomes the center of Brayden and her brother’s life. Brayden sees baseball as a way out of town and a way into his absent father’s heart. Eventually, after Brayden could no longer resist, their brother / little sister relationship leads to something more. Once again you see what the power of this love and friendship brings to each of them. In the midst of their tempestuous relationship, both Ashley and Brayden ‘s life becomes altered and comes to a screeching halt. Anger, hurt, and devastation tear them apart. As Interference comes to an end, and new and different paths are formed, you are literally chomping at the bit to read the next book in the series, Stealing Home. She is miles above her contemporaries, and I can’t wait for this book to be released for everyone to read! Play ball!!!

First of all I’d like to start off this review by saying that Harlow Cole is an amazing writer! She’s also. God damn liar because this cannot be a debut novel. It’s *that* freaking good! So pardon me while I now fangirl away and disguise it as a review. I was so freaking blown away by the writing and storytelling. Brayden and Ashley’s story was beyond captivating. I know keep saying, but this book is just phenomenal. It wraps you up in its amazing story and not once does it let go. The characters and story are so well developed you can’t help, but be completely swallowed up in this book. This is the kind of book that i wasn’t to live in and not come out of. AND OH MY GOD THAT ENDING!! I need answers. So many answers and the next book in the duet like I need my next breath! Also, I must mention the following because it has to be said: Brayden is all the things! Legit. ALL. THE. FREAKING. THINGS. The man can make you swear up a storm and then turn around and turn you into a giant puddle of swoon. You’ll want to slap the hell out of him and also let him spank you. Gah, I just loved him. I realize this review is a total cluster eff, but I’m still reeling from this book. The writing is incredible, the characters are amazing, and I just can’t get over that ending! Just seriously get this book! Interference by Harlow Cole is the definition of a must read romance. 5 stars.

This one is definitely one of my Top 5 reads this year.I really enjoyed reading this book.I was very much blown away by this book.Brayden and Ashley meet when they are around 12 years old. When Ashley's family moves in this small town she is not happy about it.While exploring city's library Ashley meets Brayden and their bond is instant. From that moment Brayden is like new member of her family, her parents accept him and Ashley's brother Nathan and Brayden become best friends. The story starts when This one is definitely one of my Top 5 reads this year.I really enjoyed reading this book.I was very much blown away by this book.Brayden and Ashley meet when they are around 12 years old. When Ashley's family moves in this small town she is not happy about it.While exploring city's library Ashley meets Brayden and their bond is instant. From that moment Brayden is like new member of her family, her parents accept him and Ashley's brother Nathan and Brayden become best friends. The story starts when they are kids and slowly progresses into their teenage years. With time their feelings change and their love becomes stronger.Because the story starts when they are kids you see them growing up and you see how their love blossomed. This is a very slow-burning romance so be aware of that(if you are not fan of it the go away from this book). At one point I was really frustrated with this story, but the I remembered that they are teenagers and that making such decision was normal for them. They ignored their feelings on too many occasions and for god's sake I HATE Brayden's dad.I really do.The writing was really engaging and nice...I was sucked in from the very first page. The book end on very devastating cliffhanger(I hated it) that just left me in complete mess.Without giving any spoiler away,I really recommend this book. It's engaging, very well written, has good dialogue and amazing characters development.Oh,and I already know that I wan't to read Nathan's book.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. This book is a contemporary romance following the friendship to relationship between Brayden and Ashley. Ashley was new to town and her mom told her to go look for trouble. Ashley and Brayden meet when they are 12 and become friends. This book follows the two until they are around 18. Harlow did an awesome job showing how the two grew and changed throughout the years. This book does focuses on life and the choices we make more than the romance. I felt for both Ashley and Brayden and I am glad this book was written in dual P.O.V. At times Ashley frustrated me, but I understood where she was coming from and I am so glad that by the end of the book she had stood up for herself multiple times and went after what she wanted. Brayden pissed me off to no end the way he would hide from his feelings. The thing was Harlow did such an awesome job that I understood why the characters did what they did. The side characters were also an amazing addition and added to the story instead of taking away from it. I wasn't sure how the second book would go after everything that happened at the end of this book. I guess I will just have to read it and find out.

He must remain focused on baseball and she is a distraction he can’t afford especially when it could not only cost him his best friend but her as well.Ashley wants so much more from Brayden than he seemed to want to give but she is determined to show him that they are meant to be. They cross that line and when their world implodes will the fallout bring them back together or destroy them?Full of emotion, angst and chemistry this story had all the feels. I enjoyed the debut story from this author and I can’t wait for more of Ashley and Brayden’s story.

Ms. Cole then went on to weave a deep, descriptive story of two people, friends since their early years (Ashley was only 12) who fall deeply in love. They fight that love because he really IS her brother’s best friend and he’s filled with an early life full or heartbreak and baggage that make being together almost impossible. They have so many obstacles as they grow up and their love grows. This book follows them through those years in a very angsty and beautifully written story that I just couldn’t put it down. The rest of this beautiful story can’t come too soon.

3.5 StarsThis book was so well written, the characters deep and fleshed out, the intensity of the connection and chemistry between Ashley and Brayden was undeniable.Ashley what a heroine! Her strength, her love for Brayden was so admirable, the author wrote her so well that even though he broke her heart so many times and hurt her over and over again, I never got the feeling that she was a doormat. This character pissed me off I must say, but I have a soft spot for complex and tortured character and damn he was one.Usually the manwhore aspect in the book don't bother me but it was just too much, Brayden was sleeping with absolutely everyone and it was huge turn off. This book emotionally worn me out, drained me, anger me, I love it, I'm dying to read the conclusion of Ashley and Brayden beautiful but heartbreaking love story.

As they had their ups and downs in school and with him being a future baseball star Ashley had to watch the parade of girls that flocked to him and I loved that she also dated trying to forget him. Then finally they couldn’t take it anymore and I was so excited. But that was short lived until tragedy struck. I can’t wait to find out how this will turn out because this is a hard pill to swallow the way things ended.

    1) This story is described as Friday Night Lights meets Dawson's Creek - that is accurate. If that's what you're looking for, that's what you'll get (and honestly, more). 2) This book is part 1 of a duet and it ends with a cliffhanger so make sure you're ready for that with book 2 ready to go because you will not be eating, sleeping or talking to people until you're done. Or you will be frustrated. 3) The romance/chemistry is slow burn and HOTTTTTT4) The writing, character development and themes 1) This story is described as Friday Night Lights meets Dawson's Creek - that is accurate. It's incredibly well-written, there is depth, there is emotion, there is humor, there are things you will take away from these books that stick with you. You will likely read them more than once. 5) This is a debut but it doesn't read like one. The prose, editing, etc are all pitch perfect.6) When you find yourself staying up until 3am so you can finish it, remember that you were warned.

So this slow burn romance knocked my socks off!! I absolutely loved the deception and past that these characters had. It made it totally engaging and consumed me until I finished this story. The author created these strong characters who realize what has happened in the past. She has such an amazing way with words and the situations these characters are in. She had a masterpiece on her hands that leaves you begging for more (literally! A cliffhanger!). This book will make you obsess for the next So this slow burn romance knocked my socks off!! In this book, you get to see how the story came about and what has happened to put the rift between them. Their chemistry is off the charts and will leave you fanning yourself. The ending will make you wonder what you just read - so hold on for this rollercoaster of emotions, sexiness and a cliffhanger like you’ve never experienced.

I was on the fence about this book. I wasn't sure if I loved it or hated it. But then I let a few days pass and in that time all I could think about was these two. It's painful to read about two people who clearly love each other to couse so much pain to eachother. I didn't like the way Brandon handled his problems. I understand that were talking about teen-agers here but still...but one thing I know for sure is that I loved Ashley. She was the bright spot in this story. Harlow’s debut novel knocks it outta the park! Totally recommend everyone read it!The beginning of Ashley and Brayden’s story is not all sunshine and flowers.
