The Culling Trials 3 (Shadowspell Academy, #3)
You Don’t Choose The Academy. The Academy Chooses You. The last of the Culling Trials is here. I foolishly thought I’d survived the worst. My team is falling to pieces around me and my heart is shattered for the losses I’ve endured. But I can’t stop when I’m so close to the end. There are too many people depending on me. I foolishly thought there wasn’t much more I could lose…until the nature of my bloodline comes to light. I’m not what I thought I was. Not what anyone thought I was. But to tell people the truth would be to kill us all. To fail the trials will mean death, but to succeed might damn me for life.

The story reminded me of Harry Potter+Hunger Game but with a more adult vibe.A girl pretends to be a boy to enter the culling to protect her brother plot isn’t new but Wild herself is something! I like her wildness and her motley crew team is interesting and fun. The mysterious surrounding Wild’s family situation and other players’s background are exciting and addicting. Oh can’t wait for the next and next and next book!

Wild was shocked when a strange man showed up at her farm with an envelope for her younger brother, one eerily similar to the one that her older brother had received and who had died at this school. Determined not to let her younger brother die too, Wild sets out to become a boy and save her family from more tragedy. This is a definite binge read book, so be prepared to read from cover to cover! The characters each brought something special to the story that made you want to know each of them be Wild was shocked when a strange man showed up at her farm with an envelope for her younger brother, one eerily similar to the one that her older brother had received and who had died at this school. A weird bunch of misfits each with their own gifts; shapeshifter, necromancer, seer, vampire, goblin and warlock each trial will show off their skills. I'm an adult but, I do enjoy reading a good YA story and this one was enjoyable. Does that sound lame? It's not lame. Got a little bit of everything and you can easily invest in the characters. They're a motley crew but lots of personality. Got some badies too we'll learn more about soon. There are always things to improve but not alot thankfulky with this first installment.I really liked it but it felt too short.I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens.

A convoluted take of a Texas teen gal that gets duped into going to a school for magical users. Even though she has no magical talent and her older brother went to the admission trials where he died, she has to go . The papers have come for her fifteen year old brother and he must go or die! Marine Johnson (Wild) lots to go in his place. She cuts her hair puts on a ballcap and heads to New York! Let the trials begin!

Really enjoyed this book, felt nice to get back into Urban Fantasy and I've NEVER been disappointed by anything Shannon has written.
