Shadows (Dark in You #5)
A match made in hell?Devon and Tanner fight like... well, cats and dogs. Which makes sense since hellcats and hellhounds aren't exactly a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, their demons' antipathy towards each other is matched only by the red-hot sexual tension between Tanner and Devon. It's driving them - and their long-suffering friends Harper and Knox - mad. When Devon is nearly kidnapped, Tanner's protective instincts kick into overdrive - he's sticking by her side, day and night. But staying so close means their hunger can no longer be denied . . . They know their demons won't accept the match, but after one red-hot night they'll fight to stay together as long as they can, even though shadows are gathering around them. Devon's would-be kidnapper is still on the loose, a serial killer carrying rage from a twisted past threatens the lair and, most of all, Tanner and Devon are losing themselves to the heat between them. When this relationship goes up in flames, it could be a blaze that neither of them can walk away from . . .

4.5 StarsAs a long time Wright fan, I have been waiting for this book since we first met Tanner and Devon in book one of this series. Even as quirky sidekick characters, their chemistry together was palpable and I have been hoping ever since that Wright would give them their own book. When I saw that said book was coming, I was over the moon excited. And hit "pre-order" so fast and hard I'm surprised my keyboard didn't break. Luckily, it's built up some stamina over the years. When I saw that said book was coming, I was over the moon excited. And hit "pre-order" so fast and hard I'm surprised my keyboard didn't break. Luckily, it's built up some stamina over the years. And this book definitely didn't disappoint. I've said it before and I'll say it again...Wright absolutely has a formula she follows. It's a formula that I personally enjoy, although I know this might not be the case for everyone. I do think she deviates from said formula in small (teeny tiny) ways fans might notice (and which I enjoyed), but overall, fans of Wright can expect all the things we know and love...and have come to expect from her. Knox is one of my top ride or die book husbands. As such, I was worried Tanner might not seem as...yummy in comparison. But I can happily say that he WAS. I also really liked Devon. But then again, I really haven't met a Wright heroine I didn't like (although it can be argued they are all pretty much the same person over and over again...but I digress). The plot was decent and kept the story moving forward...and there was definitely some nuggets left for future books. I hope Raini's book is next!

This series is one of my favourites. I’ve lost count of just how many times I’ve re-read the first few books.Knox and Harper are one of my favourite couples. And the world that’s been created here is fabulous.I just can’t get enough. And two things you’re always guaranteed with this author....A strong sexy alpha male and a strong intelligent female. No TSTL heroines here.So this was a one click for me. But did it live up to my very high expectations? In a word...yes.Tanner and Devon are great. The This series is one of my favourites. "Shadows" is the story of Devon and Tanner. We've met these characters before; Devon- tattoo and piercing expert, snarky hellcat, member of Jolene's lair and Harper's inner circle. Her biggest nemesis is Tanner, vicious helldog, Knox's right hand and bane of her existence. They have spent years chasing each other's tails, sniping and bantering while ignoring their sizzling chemistry. But when an attempt on Devon's life digs up old memories, and she decides to take up a mate, Tanner finally proposes giving into their attraction, something that turns into so much more.. As they climbed the stairwell, she was keenly aware of every move he made—the bunching and flexing of his muscles, the heated glances he sent her, the way his nostrils flared as he occasionally leaned in to inhale her scent. “Stop sniffing me!”“Stop smelling like candy.”And what could she say to that except … “You’re an idiot.” This book had so much goodness. Witty and hilarious characters fighting each other, giving into their smexy carnal lust and falling in love in this thrilling read. I adored the repartee between our MCs, it was so much FUN seeing them interact with each other.Devon was #relatable, and Tanner was just... hot. Devon was on the seafood diet. If she saw food, she devoured it. Best diet ever. Their story was unique, and I really enjoyed seeing them fall head over heels for someone they considered their enemy *insert cat-dog meme*. I also liked the updates about Raini and Maddox, Keenan and Khloe and ofcourse, my favorite couple Harper and Knox, and favorite baby Asher. Also, the branding scenes are always so HOT! He looked at her, his lips glistening. “I want my venom inside you. I want to be in your blood.” He eased his powerful body over hers, giving her his weight, making her feel trapped yet safe. So full and long and hard, his cock pulsed against her clit. “Just like you’re in mine.” This was HONESTLY worth the wait, and I cannot wait to read SO much for from Ms Wright, who is a fabulous author. I have to commend her for making me fall for these characters, while making me equally invested in the plot as well as their past and future. Fabulous!Safe..ish (view spoiler)[ unknown if they've been with other people since they knew each other for so long before getting together (hide spoiler)]4.5/5

Just the best - RTC“That was Harper. It seems we have another issue.”“What kind of issue?” asked Tanner.Knox studied him for a long moment. “It’s Devon.”Every cell of Tanner’s body seemed to brace itself for impact. Uneasy, his hound pushed close to the surface. By sheer force of will, Tanner kept his tone even as he asked, “What about Devon?”

Suzanne Wright has a way of introducing characters that I desperately want to see get together early on in the series. She did it with Dominic in the Phoenix pack series. She's done it with Devon and Tanner here. I. Am. EXCITED.

I really liked it butI didn’t love it....We’ve been watching these to snarl and sniff at each other since the beginning of the series and now finally we get to see them get together... while I enjoyed two different plots going on at once and getting to see who Raini will be possibly be paired off with, sadly not Levi ,though those two have never shown any interest in each other, I never really connected with Devon .As a supporting secondary character I’d enjoyed Devon quite a bit. Loved her loyal I really liked it butI didn’t love it....We’ve been watching these to snarl and sniff at each other since the beginning of the series and now finally we get to see them get together... while I enjoyed two different plots going on at once and getting to see who Raini will be possibly be paired off with, sadly not Levi ,though those two have never shown any interest in each other, I never really connected with Devon .As a supporting secondary character I’d enjoyed Devon quite a bit. Loved her loyalty to Harper even when her cousin/pseudo brother Drew but a huge strain on their relationship in the last book. Soo I was really looking forward to this book with all their teasing and taunting,I just knew when these two finally got together it would be explosive 🧨 and fun....Aaaaaaaaaaaaa it’s alright... For me it had too much push/pull fo4 me... instead of the explosive 🧨 coming together I’d hoped for it was more of a fizzle and pop ... sizzling 🥵 one minute and just kinda meh,the next... while I totally get their literal ‘inner demon” or entity HAS to b on board with which they mate just like say a shifter needs their inner animal for their “fated mate”,there was too much “ negative Nancy” attitude for me... too much hemming and hawing too much I wasn’t you but. I ant yo but my animal will never allow it,I want you but I’m No good at relationships. Even though I’ve never had one .( Tanner) The whole doom and gloom, of a supposedly impossible situation w/out really trying. The whole failure is a foregone conclusion so why even try,but let’s try anyway while we constantly tell her cells it can’t happen. gods, that got soo old for me plus you add in Devon being stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn at times and I just wanted to smack them both and walk away. Seriously,we’re being told by both Devon ( Hey,I’m not that dumb or i’m smarter than that) and Tanner as well but what kinda smart woman needs EVERYONE in her life that cares about her after her 2nd kidnapping attempt to stay w/Tanner or someone because she isn’t safe alone. Duh. And it took almost a whole chapter to do that. I just wanted the shake the C out of her for being such a stupid ignorant pain. Honestly,I wanted to like Devon is she honestly saying stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn most of the time and I couldn’t agree with or understand that.. Tanner was ok,but honestly I found him kinda boring and in the sex scenes he felt like a less dominant version of Knox... Kinda a “Knox -lite” is you will.... I gotta say the whole “good girl” thing during sex just ticks me off... Heroines are not pets or small children, soo telling a grown woman she’s a good girl during sex outside of BDSM in a D/s kinda situation just rubs me the wrong way. It feels demeaning to me. It kinda worked for me with Knox but it really fit his personality in a way it didn’t Tanner for me.... Despite all those complaints did enjoy myself and i’d highly recommend the book and series.Just one other thing . Knox always made it sound as if he were soo old Harper would be uncomfortable with his age, that’s why wouldn’t tell her. And seeing how plenty of demons can live very l o n g lives ,I reasoned he must be say 400-500 plus years old or more . Well in the secondary plot we’re told more about their past in a home for orphaned demons,,it’s mentioned that a couple of fellow demons are there because they lost their parents in a car accident. I was very confused when in read that. We’re told before that Tanner is well over 200 hundred and later Tanner says he’s been a sentinel for over two hundred years but cars while invented around 1889 weren’t really in the public main stream until 1910 according to google. That wasn’t 120 years ago yet. So if Tanner has been a sentinel for over 200 years something surely he did not become until he’s an adult how did a fellow child lose a parent to a car accident when cars didn’t exist yet? That pulled me out of the story a bit. Maybe their world developed differently from ours but it’s still confusing.I liked it,really I did , but mostly to finally see them get together and for the continuation of the story. Please read ..I think Ms.Wright is an amazing writer and I’m looking forward to Khloe driving Keenan fully insane with her antics.

Wonderful Paranormal RomanceI LOVE this series. It’s the perfect paranormal romance for me. It’s witty, articulate, literally hot as hell, filled with deliciously wicked (but not outright bad) characters and stuffed with plot.I’m so glad Suzanne Wright decided to write this book. The interaction with Devon and Tanner has always been hilarious and filled with potential. Moving away from the main characters of the previous books in the series is always a risk, but I’m so glad she took this one. If Wonderful Paranormal RomanceI LOVE this series. The interaction with Devon and Tanner has always been hilarious and filled with potential. Moving away from the main characters of the previous books in the series is always a risk, but I’m so glad she took this one. If you have read the first books in the series you already have a great handle on these two characters, but I don’t think you *need* to read them first to enjoy this book, it will just help a lot. The first books help you understand the world building and the back story of the other characters.Devon is a Hellcat, raised in a Lair of Imps by her Aunt and Uncle. As she was raised in the same Lair as Harper (the main character from the previous books in the series) we understand from her books what that can be like for the non-Imps. Harper’s relationship with Knox, the Prime of another Lair, set her into the same circle as Tanner a Hellhound who was friends with, and Sentinel for, Knox. We know from the previous books that Knox and his Sentinels have been friends since childhood and they all met in an Orphanage for Demons, a very unpleasant place.Tanner is very closed off and has walls that are built a mile high. He never expects to find a mate because that is very unusual for Hellhounds. However, he is crazily attracted to Devon. Devon is crazily attracted to Tanner. Neither believes they can act on the attraction because Hellhounds and Hellcats are natural enemies and their demons won’t let them be together. It is surprising to both of them that they have feelings for each other. It is even more surprising when Devon gets into trouble and then gets herself out of it that Tanner’s demon becomes very protective of her. It alters everything between them, even if it is only for a while. On it’s own the romance part of this book is entertaining and interesting, with lots of twists. It’s also filled with plenty of very hot scenes. However, and this is the thing I love about Suzanne Wright, the plot is great too. This book would stand on it’s own as an Urban Fantasy book, if it didn’t have the romance stuff in there too. The characters are well rounded with plenty of back story to keep things interesting and they are also witty enough to keep the grins coming, despite the darkness (they are demons after all).I really recommend this series as a whole, but this book is a great read.As a side note, I got this book with Whispersync so I listened to the audio book in part, as well as reading it. I really like the narrator for this series and I think she conveys the different characters well with her voices. Her delivery is excellent and really pulls you in to the story. Listening to her version of this book is entertaining and well worth the money/credit.I really hope that there are more books coming in this series. There are other interactions within the group of friends that have great potential to be future books. If all the books are as well written and thought out as this one, I will be a very very happy reader.

She could jot down her grocery list and I would probably still read it. But I'm not joking when I say this book was captivating, interesting, hilarious, and swoony. This book focuses on Devon being kidnapped, and the group narrowing down those suspects. But it also has an additional mystery so you won't be bored during this story for one second.Devon is a BA hellcat who keeps her secrets close to her heart. She loves deeply and does her own thing regardless of what others think, but there are some deep issues that we learn about in this book that make her relatable and, dare I say, human. We get to know a lot about Devon and I have no doubt all the readers are going to fall in love with her, especially when she's such a sarcastic, stubborn hellcat. “Honestly, sometimes it’s like your brain takes a laxative or something.”Tanner is a hellhound which are basically mortal enemies of hellcats, so you can see how this will get interesting. He's strong and possessive, yet selfless and protective...and super sweet. He's also the funniest ever, and I love him. “Look, kitten, I know it’s a struggle for you to deal with the undying love you feel for me and the close proximity only makes it harder, but what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”If you've read the previous books you know that there is something between Tanner and Devon...well if you count fighting as something. But how they're going to get over their cat and dog issues is the real question. “A part of you will always belong to me. I’m not giving it back. It’s mine now. You don’t need it as much as I need it.”

This is actually a 4.5 star read. Loved the story-line and characters, but I was very disappointed at the amount of editing errors in the book. Tiny things where there was an extra word in a sentence or a word missing from a sentence, but it happened numerous time throughout the book. Sure, I can look past them but it gets annoying when they're frequently ripping you out of the story because you're rereading the same sentence five times to make sure your brain is right and the sentence is wrong. I've been dying for Devon and Tanner's book probably since book two in this series, so to finally get all that wonderful banter and see their relationship come out to this was fabulous. I'm extraordinarily curious to know if Devon and Tanner will get more books with them as the main characters since Harper and Knox got four books. I'd love more of Devon and Tanner, especially to see their demons interact and how some things unfold for them. Obviously, I'd love books for all the characters in this series and Tanner and Devon's story could be seen as complete with just the one book, but I'm greedy and want more! The dual mysteries really kept me interested and frustrated with guessing and wanting to know who was behind everything. Also, the more I think about this book, the more I feel like Devon and Tanner require more books to complete their story (at least one, I'm begging!). In case any publishers or Suzanne Wright are reading this, and pondering WRITE MORE DEVON AND TANNER, please <3

However, the second half of the story dragged and was repetitive. The end was anticlimactic. The first half of the book was more exciting. - I have no idea why there was the additional plot of the Rambrook kids. The plot was pointless and did nothing for the story. I kept thinking it was going to tie in with Devon’s story but that did not happen. - the books talk so much about Knox being the most powerful creature but it doesn’t always seem that way. When he calls on the flames of hell it takes time for them to do damage. Couldn’t someone just shoot him while he waits for the flames to build?Overall it was a decent read. It had potential but fell a little short. I can’t wait for Khloe’s book. I hope she is written well or I’ll be heartbroken. I love Khloe, even though I could do without the bathroom humor. Keenan needs to be given a better personality. He always seems to be the less intelligent one of the Sentinels. At this point he’s kind of boring. Please don’t make us wait another year for Khloe’s book.

And we have all been waiting for Tanner and Devon’s story since we first met them in book 1. And it did NOT disappoint. This book is amazing. I loved loved loved this story. I could not put the book down. And it was so great the see all our favorite people make lots of appearances in the book, even Lou came in a couple times. It was just all around a fantastic read. If I could I would give it 10 stars!!!And this book was what I am hopefully interpreting as a peek into what the next book will be... Keegan and Khole. Fingers crossed. We even saw what Raini might be up against in her book, if she gets one, again, fingers crossed.

Love, love, loved it!!! Besides The Deep in Your Veins Series, this one is my favourite from this amazing and funny author. I love her works and this book for sure didn't let me down. Devon and Tanner are simply perfect for each other. I couldn't wait for their story and I'm so glad how it turned out. They both tease each other so much that it only made sense for them to be together. It wasn't a smooth journey to get there but with love it never really is, right? Also the infamous ow-om drama was compared to other books from this author quite mild, which I liked. And not to mention we finally get to see little Asher again, he's so adorable and cute. I also loved to read more about the rest of the gang. I'm fairly sure that the next book will be awesome and super hillarious, since it's supposed to be about Keenan and Khloe. I honestly cannot wait for it.

I LOVE the Dark in You series, and am so happy that Devon and Tanner finally have their own book. These 2 have gotten so much pleasure out of ribbing each other throughout the whole series, it was obvious they were going to have explosive chemistry when they finally hooked up. Tanner is most definitely an ALPHA male hellhound. I love how he calls Devon kitten, he knows exactly what to say and do to rile her up constantly. Devon, and her hellcat demon, are a force to be reckoned with. She's no easy pushover for the persistent Tanner, but they work so well together. Lots of action in the storyline between Devon at constant risk of being kidnapped, as well as the serial killer on the loose. I'm so glad there was some baby Asher appearances, the little guy is just too adorable. And Keenan and Khloe - these 2 are hilarious, I can't wait for more Khloe.

4.5, but I’m rounding up to 5 because I love these characters and the world so much. This was a great continuation of the story, switching from Knox and Harper’s main story to two of their best friends who’ve had strong roles in all the previous books. There was lots of action and danger in this story (similar to the previous books in the series). The sex was fantastic and the romance felt very natural. I like that they had to struggle to make it work. No fated mates crap here. Nothing was easy. 4.5, but I’m rounding up to 5 because I love these characters and the world so much. Yet the whole story was still very loving, very sensual, very fun, with lots of intrigue in the plot, and well written. It also seems to be setting us up for a few of the other side character to get their own stories next. I really hope we can read about Maddox next. He sounds intriguing.

2 stars of mehAfter you read a good amount of Wright's books, you start to recognize the pattern she uses in writing her books. Some like it. I don't. I could've skipped this novel entirely and everything could've been summarized in a single paragraph. We all knew that Devon and Tanner would end up together and be mates. No surprise there. Another thing that was not a surprise was the antagonist. When you get to the point of having your readers guess half of your book, reading just doesn't seem 2 stars of mehAfter you read a good amount of Wright's books, you start to recognize the pattern she uses in writing her books. The plot was flimsy at best, and I can only hope that Khloe's and Keenan's novel will be more interesting. Also looking forward to Raini and Maddox- he has the name of a love interest so I'm calling it now.

4 Enjoyable StarsFinally, the story of Hellhound Tanner and Hellcat Devon, we’ve watched these to flirt and snipe throughout the previous books, the chemistry and tension between the two simmering as it craves to be released, and in this book finally it is.I enjoyed seeing more of Knox and Harper in this book, but I didn’t get enough of Asher, I wanted more!Keenan and Khloe together provide plenty of entertainment. 4.5 starsShadows is book 5 in The Dark in You series and I must admit to being really excited but nervous about this book. I worried that Devon would be a replica of Harper but I'm pleased to say that it was a non issue because none of that was a problem. I loved Tanner and Devon even more than I thought I would, although Knox is still the man. Shadows had all that makes reading this author addicting. It had an awesome couple, funny times, sexy times, danger and HEA, what more can a girl ask for 4.5 starsShadows is book 5 in The Dark in You series and I must admit to being really excited but nervous about this book.
