Rules of Redemption (The Firebird Chronicles, #1)
The war everyone thought was over is just beginning. Kira Forrest is a survivor. She’s risen above the pain of her beginnings to become a war hero only to leave it all behind in the pursuit of a simple life. Now a salvager, she makes a living sifting through the wreckage of dead alien ships from a war that nearly brought humanity to its knees. After her ship takes damage, she’s forced to re-route to a space station where her past and present collide with dangerous consequences. Kira’s existence holds the key to a faltering peace treaty with the Tuann—a technologically advanced alien race who dislikes and distrusts all humans. Winning her freedom should be easy, but a powerful and relentless Tuann warrior stands in her way. Deceiving him seems impossible, especially when he strays dangerously close to secrets she struggles to hide. Can Kira reconcile the pain of her past with the possibilities of her future? The fate of two races depends on her success.

I loved this as much as I did Pathfinder's Way.The background idea (humans as the young race in space that isn't trusted) isn't new, but the plot and the characters made my day.The ending clearly points to a series and one I will be glad to continue. To the grammar purists out there: there were a couple of mistakes that nowhere harmed my enjoyment.

I have read and loved everything else TA White has previously published. This was no exception. As always, this book features a strong female lead character: Kira. However, a few parts of the book take place from Graydon's perspective, too. Also present are a snarky drone and lots of military comradery with Kira's former squad and Graydon's oshota. This book is fun, light-hearted, and still contains just the right amount of romance. Amazing read and can't wait for the next oneT.A. White has done it again. I am so very happy to have found this author that writes books that I so thoroughly enjoy. "Rules of Redemption" by TA White is the first book in her new sci-fi series, "Firebird Chronicles". It is awesome! The world building and character development are excellent. You open the book and zoom! you're away. A fast-paced, tantalising plot doesn't relent.A book to go on your re-read shelf.

This was a terrific beginning to a new series by T.A. White. Such a great read! This book is a beautiful blend of technology, magic, space adventure, hard-working, hard-training heroine, loyalty and a bit of romance. The story is well written, tightly woven and delightful. I highly recommend it.

This book begins a fourth series by TA White. So far she's been maintaining three - one in a modern urban setting, one in a post-apocalyptic setting, and one in a fantasy-with-a-dash-of-science setting - and everything she's written has been enjoyable. The milieus are different and distinct. The common thread is that the protagonist is a young (or young-seeming) woman with extraordinary abilities and what she calls an independent streak and the powers-that-be call an attitude problem.Setting 4 i This book begins a fourth series by TA White. The common thread is that the protagonist is a young (or young-seeming) woman with extraordinary abilities and what she calls an independent streak and the powers-that-be call an attitude problem.Setting 4 is a space opera. It is also more unabashedly a wish-fulfillment fantasy than the others. The protagonist is a lost princess (it's not called that) with super powers (they're not called that) who constantly surprises those about her with her abilities. The plot setup isn't subtle: The space station she tries to visit unobtrusively currently houses everyone she's trying to avoid. And unobtrusive doesn't happen because she stages a dramatic rescue when two children are the victims of an improbable murder attempt (it's not called that). She's dragged/blackmailed-into-going-to an alien home planet - and all the supporting characters find reasons to be dragged there with her.Three stars for the writing - fun to read and I mean to read the sequel. And a fourth star because this is a good-bad book: Did I mention that the unabashed wish-fulfillment fantasy was fun to read?

Full disclosure, after 9 years on Goodreads this is my first review. I have been a lurker for years; however, this book needs me to write a review. T.A White is an amazing author. One, more people need to be paying attention to as all her books feature my 5-star-must-haves:1. A strong female lead who is not scared of a little darkness;2. A slow-burn romance that we all know will grow into something incredible;3. And, originality like no other.Rules of Redemption has all of these points (and more Full disclosure, after 9 years on Goodreads this is my first review. White creating a world that is beautiful - one that combines old world culture with science fiction. If you are in need of a book that surprises you in a good way - one that will become a beautiful series - do yourself a favour and pick up this book (and if you were smart, afterwards go ahead a read ALL of T.A. White’s books). T.A. White, thank you for this amazing book. I am now scared that it has led me into a book slump (I will blame you). I am also conflicted - I don't know what I want (need) more now, Aileen Traver #5 or Firebird #2??

AwesomeSo fantastic! I loved this book. Too bad I have to wait for the next one. TA White is one of my favorite authors and I was excited to try out this new series. It did not disappoint. It has it all: great characters, interesting plot, good background and development. And it came to a logical end but plenty left to unfold in future books. I can’t wait!

AmazingThis story is so intriguing and brilliant. I love all the characters. They have difficult pasts built on lies and misunderstanding, but also respect and friendship. Interesting to see how the little pieces come out and they shift views. I couldn't put it down

I love all her books but this one really appealed to me. The world she creates is interesting and the lead character is not only kickass but intelligent. One of her best, can't wait for the next one in this series.
