HAPPY RELEASE DAY!An action-packed, sexy adventure filled with plenty of sexual tension, dragons fights, brotherhood, revenge, and of course dragon clan politics. Fast-paced and easy to read this book is my favorite one set in this universe. So far. There's always room for growth right? CharactersKaisa is the eldest of four sisters (quadruplets), whose mother was the last known phoenix in the world. Or at least, she was until she surrendered her powers over to her daughters before promptly being murdered. So for the past few years Kaisa has been living in hiding, on the run from dragon forces that would use her as a political pawn. But when she powers being to flare out of control, she is exposed by people she seeks help from and finds herself caught by Brand. Brand is a rogue, belonging to no clan ever since the brutal fall of his family. Working mainly as a man for hire, he lives for one purpose, to avenge his family's murder. When he comes across a phoenix it seems he finally has something to bargain with for allies. But nothing goes as planned and he finds himself questioning everything he has been working toward. As of now, Brand and Kaisa are my favorite pairing in this dragon-shifters universe. Though be forewarned, their connection comes on almost immediately - as though their souls call out to each other. And while they do not immediately act on it, the undercurrent is clear as day. "I used to think fate was a cruel as dragon-shifters, but now...""Now?""Now I think fate set me on a path to you." "I've loved you since the moment you stole my car."..."That's sweet and all, but we can't hold this bastard down much longer," Wyot, one of the dragons on top of Uther, grumbled.Brand lifted his head and grinned, "Shall we kill a king, my queen?"She laughed, pure joy erupting from the blackness that had consumed her. "By all means." But based on the cliffhanger we got there at the end I can already tell Ladon and Skylar are going to be 🔥 and give them a run for their money. Ladon stepped into her path. With a sneer, she ran her gaze over him, sizing him up. Then she lifted a single eyebrow, obviously having found him wanting. Ladon shoved aside the irritation that unusual reaction drew from him. "You're not going near her."She crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed. "You're not going to stop me.""Who the hell are you?" He didn't like repeating himself. Skylar smiled, those fantasy-inducing lips tipping up in a grim delight. "I'm Kasia's sister."....Another phoenix. Impossible. On the heels of that realization came another. Mimicking her posture, he crossed his arms and smiled back. "You shouldn't have revealed your presence to me, little firebird. Narrowed eyes shot sparks at him. "And why not?" she challenged. "Because now you're mine." I'm pumped to see how their story goes because I like Ladon, and I enjoyed his friendship with Brand. I'm glad that their friendship wasn't ruined by Brand's coupling with Kaisa. And honestly, I felt bad Ladon did not get the mate he hoped for, but now we have the potential of both men getting their happily ever after with mates along with taking down the currently messed dragon ruling system? Hell yes!I want the next book now! A year is too long to wait :( I received a free ARC copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Huge thank you to the publishers Entangled: Amara for providing me with a copy to read and review.

My first dragon shifter book. Who knew they could be so Badass? What a great adventure and an awesome romance. I loved this book and after that powerful ending and terrific fight scenes, I can’t wait for Skylar’s story next. The hate to love romance sounds like it will be fantasmorgamsic. Who knew they could be so Badass? What a great adventure and an awesome romance. I loved this book and after that powerful ending and terrific fight scenes, I can’t wait for Skylar’s story next. The hate to love romance sounds like it will be fantasmorgamsic. This book was the story of Kasia and Brand. Brand is a rogue dragon shifter due to the fact that Uhler, King of the Gold clan killed his family when Brand was a boy and took over the throne of the Gold clan. Brand hid in the mountain caves and has been a rogue ever since.Rogue dragons don’t generally survive, they are usually killed by their own kind, so the fact that he has survived over 500 years speaks to how strong he is. However, he is working for his friend the blue king and he has promised to bring him a Phoenix to mate in exchange for his chance at becoming part of the blue clan and getting his revenge on Uhler. Kasia is one of 4 Daughters of the Phoenix Serafina and her Mate Dragon shifter who was king of the white clan, though their mating wasn’t fully formed at the time the Red King killed him. The legend says that when a Phoenix mates with a Dragon King, that king becomes the High King (leader of the Five Kingdoms). The red king wanted to be the High King and wanted to be immortal as High Kings and Phoenix’s are, so he murdered Kasia’s grandparents, her father, then last year her mother. Her mother just barely had time to send her 4 girls into hiding. Kasia is the oldest and is a Phoenix, we don’t know for certain if any of the others are.The book has awesome twists and turns. Kasia was in hiding, but is having some sort of burning visions so she goes to a supernatural clinic and the doctor tells everyone and their brother about her. Brand finds her first but she is wary of him. Her father was a Dragon but also a Dragon hunted and killed her mother and the Red King controls 4 of the other kings and their clans. The book definitely ends spectacularly. It is a stand-alone but it sets up the next story so that is nice also. I really want to read the next one. The romance was awesome, the sex was steamy but there wasn’t too much, there was more adventure and fantasy and the story was written well.

As much as I've enjoyed this authors Dragon stories I've never given a 5 rating until now and this book deserves it ! We have Brand a rogue Dragon desperate for revenge and loyal to the King of the Blue Dragons but unfortunately he is not trusted by many. Brand is the perfect hero compassionate, brave and loyal whilst Kasia was strong, determined and hilarious ( slight spoiler she steals his car ! ). For this reader the next book with the King of the Blues facing a whole new challenge cannot come soon enough. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

They live among us normal humans, keeping their shifter selves secret, and their culture is a palimpsest over ours. The romances are lusty with high-octane romance, often centering around finding one's mate for life.In this one, we've got trouble in the world of dragon shifters, the apex-predators of apex-predators. But we begin with our heroine's mother on the run from a truly evil dragon king, who is determined to capture her and drain her blood so he can become immortal. She's reached the end of her running after five hundred years--but she goes out in style, sending her four daughters to various corners of the earth.Kasia, one of the four daughters, is central to this story. She wakes up in a facility, suffering debilitating periods of pain and visions. Brand Astolot, a rogue dragon without a clan, is sent to find her, because Kasia is also a phoenix. Phoenixes have special powers all of their own, and anyone who mates with one is going to get magical bennies. Kasia doesn't trust Brand as far as she can throw him, so she steals his one treasure--his car. But Brand is a dragon. He can fly, so she doesn't get far.Watching the two bicker as their attraction grows is part of the fun. They are great on the run together. Kasia is no fading flower--she knows martial arts, and she also knows what she likes in a man. If she has to mate with Brand's boss, well, she can deal . . . if she decides to.It's a fun story, with nifty characters. Bonus, Kasia's pet, Maul the hellhound! This novel comes to a satisfactory resolution, while opening up threads for what will obviously be a series centering on those four sisters.I really look forward to the rest!

ARC received for reviewI started this and then put it down cause Donna Grant has ruined me for dragon shifter books. I am very glad I gave this book a second chance. Kasia is a phoenix in hiding and Brand is a rogue dragon. They are chased around the world where Brand is supposed to hand her over to a dragon king for a place in the clan. Of course, love happens and Brand keeps her for himself. Lots of drama and action. Nice epilogue, until the mini cliffy with Brand's friend and Kasia's sister. Brand is a rogue dragon working with the Ladon, king of the blue dragons, in order to gain loyalty so he can avenge his parents. Everything he’d done in his life, every single step, every job, every horrible act, had been calculated to move him closer to one goal, and one goal only. Revenge. Revenge against Uther, who’d killed Brand’s entire family to take the gold throne. The king sends him after a woman, and Brand is shocked to find she’s a phoenix. Kasia has been hidden for a long time after her mother died and passed her flames to her and her three sisters and sent them into hiding. But one mistake makes the world aware there is another phoenix and everyone wants to own her. She is especially terrified of dragons - they want to use her as a pawn for their game of kings. “Dragon shifters betrayed my family and killed my parents. I spent my entire life running from your kind. Do you think trust comes easily just because you think you’re the good guys? Everyone thinks they’re the good guys. Even the bad guys.”But she trusts Brand, who she has had visions of him protecting her throughout the years. He wants to deliver her to the king safely. The author created a really interesting world - I loved the mythology of the phoenix in paranormal romance. The dragons had a really neat hierarchy. Kasia is a good heroine. She no dainty damsel, but she’s got good sense and knows when to run and when to fight. Brand is a great love interest - strong and competent. The villain is thoroughly creepy. The set up for the next book looks awesome, I can’t wait to read more. If you want a hot paranormal romance with forbidden love between a bodyguard and the woman he is protecting - this is one you won’t want to miss. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. The release date is July 30, 2019.

She tells Brand she is no virgin but yet he is the only one who can absorb her Phoenix Fire. Her character would have made more sense if she was a Virgin. This is a good start to a new series. Brand and Kasia have a pretty erotic relationship when runing and hiding.

Phoenixes are lucky to have in your corner and possess powers that would help you win in a battle. Her mother taught her and her sisters that people will only use you in they can get their hands on you, especially dragon shifters. If a dragon shifter mates with a phoenix, he has the power to become the high king and rule over all of the dragon shifters. So, when Brand comes storming into her life, she immediately recognizes the danger and makes a run for it. However, other beings are aware of her existence as well and would do anything to capture her for their own gain. And as the old saying goes, "Better the devil you know, than the devil you don't."Honestly, Brand wasn't a bad guy. Which is why I think Kasia stayed with him. He protected her and seemed to care about her well being. Sure he was going to turn her over to some other dragon, but the more she learned about Brand and Ladon (her intended mate) the more she became drawn to their cause. You knew the moment you met Brand and Kasia, they were perfect for each other. Their banter was on point, and their chemistry was through the roof. Not to mention the whole forbidden love angle since Brand was only retrieving Kasia for his best friend, Ladon. Let's just say this story checked off a lot of boxes for me.Between the suspense of not knowing what is going to happen with Kasia. The mystery of where her sisters are and if they are okay. The swoon worthy moments that Brand showed. The huge dragon battle looming overhead. Not to mention the build up of romance between Kasia and Brand. All I can say was that there wasn't a dull moment in this story. This is my first time reading this author's work, but it won't be the last. The epilogue gave us a glimpse of who will be featured in the next book, and I can not wait! If you're a fan of paranormal romances and you want something a little bit different than your typical werewolf shifter books, then you have got to pick this book up. You won't be disappointed.

And I get that there was multiple points made about the dragons especially being able to hide in plain sight in a multitude of ways, but something about that still seems so increasingly difficult when recruiting humans for dragon mates and a building dragon war. I'm curious to see if that's something that comes to a head in future books. It seemed hard to contain in this book and I'd imagine it will only be increasingly so as it proceeds. Dragons are kinda hard to miss, especially when engaged in battle and not as adapt at shielding.Other than those two things everything else was masterfully done imo. The Supernatural element was superb, I highly enjoyed the politics within the dragon colonies and the larger story there with the high King oppressor and building rebellion. I was totally engrossed in it all. I also loved the other shifters and mythical beings, especially some that were a complete surprise *cough Hershel cough*. And let's not forget the star of the show, Kasia the Phoenix herself! She was awesome! Why is there not more Phoenix shifter books?! So so good. I really enjoyed seeing her learn and harness her own abilities as we went along too. I can't wait to see more about her sisters and how her story progresses as well! The romance was great. Initially it did feel a bit insta but it honestly ended up being a little more of a slow burn which was awesome. Insta chemistry + some mystery is a wonderful combo. I'm thrilled this is only the beginning of something much larger! I really look forward to more and I'm definitely going to check out more from this author.I received an ARC of this book from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley and this is my honest review.

Yes, you heard that right, object. Being a phoenix, she has the power that would give any dragon shifter the ultimate power over their kind. But after what happened to her mother, dragon shifters are the last thing she wants to be around. Too bad the man of her dreams happens to be one.Brand is a rogue, and not by choice. After living hundreds of years as a mercenary, it looks like his time to serve may be coming to an end. Mainly because all he has to do is deliver the phoenix to his friend, earning him a family in return. But now that he's seen the phoenix, all he can think about is protecting her. And not just for his friend, but for himself. Things just got a lot more interesting. The chemistry between Brand and Kasia is super hot...literally. But this story was way more than just their chemistry. Each had their own demons to work through, and found trust in each other to over come them....eventually. The characters we meet along the way pulled my strings just as much as these two main characters, which is another reason I'm so excited for this series. If this is the beginning of a new series, I need to be signed up for the box set NOW! This was quite the debut for a series and I'm already chomping at the bit to get my hands on the next one, and the one after that. Just keep em coming!!!!

There's definitely plenty of action, dark plots, mad dashes, forbidden feelings, twisted destinies, and alluring creatures of nightmares and fairytales alike to keep you riveted to the page. I will say though that I think I'm more intrigued by the world than the main characters... Even so I really do think this is a must-read for paranormal romance fans, it was rather good and although PNR isn't my top go-to genre I still enjoyed reading it.[full review to come!]

I know from this cliffhanger ending that he will definitely have his hands full and that his mate will challenge him as much as Kasia did Brand. I can't wait for the next book.

Abigail Owen Is very talented at creating unique worlds and intriguing characters. This story follows alongside her Fires Edge series. The characters are intriguing and have compelling backstories.I liked the idea of a phoenix being crucial to the High King. It made for intrigue and gave a different spin to dragon shifter lore. Kasia is one of 4 sisters born to the last phoenix. Never before have there been 4 daughters born and I wonder where Ms Owen plans to take the story with that nugget. Just fantastic!. I love the world building. I love the journey the author is taking us on. I love the strong heroine Kasia. Great humor and banter throughout. Wonderful secondary characters to keep your interest. Loved the tie in with Fallon and the Dragons in the 'colonies". I feel a bit deprived having to wait for the next book, but I am anxious to read more in this series.*Complimentary copy provided via Netgalley for an honest review.

This was so AWESOME!!! I’m sure exactly what I was expecting but this was so much more! Nothing new in the evolution of these characters, but the dynamics and the flow of the story was fast paced at times and smooth at others . I enjoyed every page, the build up and discoveries along the way were exciting to read. I’m looking forward to the next story in this addicting new series.

No insta-love or insta-lust that had them falling into bed at the get-go. Rather, it was an instant attraction that slowly simmered, bubbled and grew over the course of the story. Just tantalizing and angsty enough to keep my stomach all tied up in knots while I fretted (right along with them) about how their bonding could ever work out, with a happy ending for all involved…And can I just mention how much I loved Maul?“A familiar snarl sounded close by. Swinging his head around, Brand located Maul, happily ripping into the delicate wing membranes of a gold dragon who screamed in agony.”LOL!! Good doggy! But seriously, where can I adopt a Hellhound?Although this story ends with a satisfying conclusion, there’s obviously going to be an overarching plot that continues on into the next book. There are certain objectives that haven’t been reached yet, and a couple secrets that have yet to be revealed. And that ending… Ahhh!!! *happy dance* It looks like “you know who” will definitely be getting his story, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! (He was so intriguing). Where are you, book 2? Oh, fuckballs (*winks*)… it hasn’t been published yet. :PFor those of you out there who love dragon-shifter stories, I highly recommend this one!

I loved Kasia! She was spirited, resourceful, and full of surprises! She made no bones about having an opinion and when facing a roomful of dragon shifters, that’s saying something! She also had the coolest creature for a pet, even if he left a smoky smell behind. And then there’s Brand. He was awesome! He also underestimated Kasia once, but it was enough for him to figure out he’s met his match. Too bad he’s retrieving her for someone else and not himself...Brand and Kasia’s connection was sweltering hot and their interactions had me smiling like crazy. Even when things were serious, since I never knew what these two would do next! Since trouble always seemed to find Kasia, I also knew I was in for a wild ride! And I kept my fingers crossed Brand would realize what he’d be missing out on if he truly did his job. I literally devoured this book in a few hours! The Rogue King was a thrilling read! There’s so much happening in this book, but what stood out...a few spies, lots of secrets, some sexy, protective dragon shifters, wolf shifters, a fantastic battle with really mad dragons, and a smoking hot romance that could burn the ground down! This is book one of the Inferno Rising series and according to the author’s newsletter, is a crossover story from the Fire’s Edge series. While I think this book could be read by itself, I believe there would be more enjoyment if you start with the previous series. Then again, who needs an excuse to read about dragon shifters?! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We were treated to dragon shifters! Probably one of my favorite types of shifters. We get a brief overview of the world and the phoenix characters at the beginning so we kind of have a starting point. Phoenixes are rare and as far as we know, Kasia and her sisters are the only ones left alive. Since acquiring their powers and being teleported to different safe places over a year ago, Kasia has been trying to deal with everything on her own. When the side effects of her powers get to be too much, she seeks help with paranormal medical staff, only to be betrayed.News gets out that there is a phoenix and the search is on by dragon clans to get to her first. Brand, a rogue dragon shifter working for the king of the Blue Dragon Clan, finds Kasia first. She isn't going to just get picked up easily though. She has some skills and she's going to do her best to get away, just as her mother taught her.I found I liked Kasia. She seemed to really grow throughout the book. In the beginning, she seems very unsure of herself and what she is doing in the world, but as her journey with Brand goes on, she gains confidence and strength. By the end of the book, I felt like Kasia was a different person. She had definitely become worthy of being a queen of a dragon clan.Brand and Kasia work hard at containing their relationship so that the initial plan Brand was sent out with is what is carried out. Kasia sees the wisdom in it when she reaches the Blue Clan and the two try their hardest to stick to it. Despite how miserable it makes them.I was kind of disappointed in Kasia when she takes it into her head that Brand used her. It was very frustrating getting ready to go to war with the Gold clan in the middle of controversy between the two. The battle was intense and had me holding my breath for a bit. Kasia and Brand are true warriors and fight hard. The ending was left with some mystery and animosity. I'm eager to find out more about our new character and the continuing storyline of Kasia's mother's killer. This world of dragons was fascinating and exciting. I'll be watching for the sequel in the Inferno Rising series! EXCERPT: The only warning she got that she was being followed was the flick of a shadow in the headlights. Before she could react, a massive golden dragon slammed down on the road in front of her about half a mile out. She almost expected the ground to shake with the force, but the act was near silent.Dammit.She gritted her teeth and tightened her hands on the wheel. Rather than stop, Kasia hit the gas, pushing the car to go faster. He wasn’t taking her without a fight, that was for damn sure. The dragon’s deep golden scales glittered in the oncoming headlights. He didn’t budge. But he did growl, his tail slashing back and forth.“Move, you scaly bastard,” she muttered. But she didn’t let up on the pedal. He lowered his head and let loose a growl of warning, which she responded to by stomping harder on the gas.“Get out of the way!”She had no intention of playing chicken. If he didn’t, she’d ram this car down his fire-breathing throat. The hell with it. She didn’t want to go back to that cabin in Alaska anyway. Maul would miss her, but he’d be the only one.Only the dragon didn’t move. Okay then. Kasia braced for impact. At the moment she should’ve slammed into him, the beast heaved himself into the air, and she zoomed past, fishtailing underneath him from the force of the wind his wings caused. He must’ve backed up, because he landed on the road in front of her again.“You want another go, you oversized flying iguana?” she shouted, and bore down on him.And again, he hopped out of her way only to land in her path.Damn. Kasia held in a scream of fear-tinged frustration. They could keep this up all night, getting them nowhere fast. He wasn’t going to let her go.With a growl of aggravation, though not defeat, Kasia stomped on the brakes. The tires squealed in protest, and the unpleasant odor of burning rubber followed her as she skidded the car to a stop broadside of the dragon, only a few feet away. If she rolled down her window, she could reach out and touch him.The terrifying creature moved around the car, his movements more of a glide, like golden water flowing around her. He lowered his head to gaze in at her with an eye the size of her entire thigh. He snorted, and smoke trailed from his nostrils as he glared at her. Please let this be Brand, and not some other phoenix-stealing dragon shifter.Kasia glared back but raised her hands off the steering wheel in a gesture of surrender. Unable to put a foot wrong. Every choice the right one. Every action leading to greater fortune. Except legend had it wrong. The man had to capture the Phoenix's heart." I stan paranormal romance now.The Rogue King is a action-packed romance that tells the story of Kasia, a phoenix on the run to protect herself and her freedom, and Brand, a Dragon shifter who has been marked as rogue his entire life--a mark he is determined to revenge. When an opportunity strikes Brand's way to deliver the Phoenix to the King of the rebelling clan with the reward of his revenge being in touching distance--Brand doesn't hesitate. However, the rebelling clan isn't the only ones who have found out about Kasia's existence and they too are determined to capture her and her secrets for themselves. But as creatures are dodged and attacks ambushed, the chemistry between the two build to the point where a new plan must be made--one where she is his.To tell you I just enjoyed this book would be a complete understatement. This is my first shifter romance, and by golly it wont be my last. From the start, Owens does an amazing job of sucking you into the story and bringing you to the dead center of the drama and action; and you stay there until the very end. A fantasy romance at its core, but a paranormal at it's heart Rogue King was magical as it was adventurous. Owens creates a world where mystical creatures live amongst humans incognito for thousands of years, with Dragons being the top of the food chain and Phoenix's the coveted prize of them all. Legend and lore are weaved into the story as the hunt for the only known Phoenix begins, just as a war against the Dragon clans begin to spike. "He was a big, bad dragon shifter, a breed of male she realized took Neanderthal to a whole new level." Kasia is the character I truly felt connected to the most in this story, as she is this headstrong, kick-ass heroine who is determined to do whatever she has to, to make sure that her remaining family is safe--even if that means mating with the one species that killed her parents. I loved watching her character development as well as her relationship with Brand grow into something deeper and stronger. Brand on the other hand, had me swooning from left to right--front to back. I honestly could not get enough of his broody demeanor and determined swagger. Dealt a hard life because of greed and power hunger, Brand has been a loner for most of his life, cast out from his own clan, Brand was marked rogue--a mark that has every dragon watching his/her back who bears it for the rest of their life--at a young age, and has learned to take care of himself above all else; so when Kasia hurtles in and burns a path into his life--literally-- he is flipped upside down and a internal conflict begins to rage within him as he begins to learn to let people in. "You want to know what you were doing in every vision I've had of you?" His shoulders stiffened, his biceps stretching out his T-shirt a little more."What?""Protecting. Sometimes me, sometimes others. Big ways. Small ways. But always protecting." The character development overall, was stunning and I loved watching the slow burn of Kasia and Brand's relationship form. The theme of protection and destiny was a constant play with our characters, which I think completely enhanced the plot and moved it forward in ways that I don't think anything else could. The only reason I couldn't give this a complete 5/5 stars, is solely because I felt like the end tale of the novel was rushed and diverged from the pace that was set from the rest of the novel. One could almost call the ending abrupt, as things we were waiting for unraveled and then instantly was wrapped up again before we could fully savor what was happening.Overall though, this story gripped me and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment. A romance like no other, The Rogue King is a fantasy that is filled to the brim with action, adventure, mystical creatures, and undeniably romance that will have anyone swooning from the first paragraph. I highly recommend anyone who loves romance and fantasy to give this one a go--you will not be sorry!Huge thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for sending me an ARC for my honest review!
