The Testaments
The Testaments is not available until publication date, September 10, 2019In this brilliant sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, acclaimed author Margaret Atwood answers the questions that have tantalized readers for decades. When the van door slammed on Offred's future at the end of The Handmaid's Tale, readers had no way of telling what lay ahead for her—freedom, prison or death. With The Testaments, the wait is over. Margaret Atwood's sequel picks up the story fifteen years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead. "Dear Readers: Everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we've been living in." —Margaret Atwood

So I just found out about this, Margaret Atwood revealed it via twitter yesterday. I even had to create the book data myself on goodreads so I could write this update. I really did not see this coming. (did anyone?) I'm excited and surprised. The Handmaid's Tale felt like such a closed book, so it will be real interesting to see where this one goes. I wonder if she decided to write this after the success of the television adaptation or the show was made because this book was being written. I wonder if she decided to write this after the success of the television adaptation or the show was made because this book was being written. Either way, I can't wait to read it. It's set 15 years after the first book (which was published 33 years ago) and it has 3 female narrators. I hope it carries with it the same depth and power as the first one. So I will be reading and reviewing this one come September. It's certainly a release not to be missed!

A sequel to "The Handmaid's Tale." Hmm... So, as much as Atwood is involved with the production of the TV show, is it going to be some kind of novelization of the second season? If it is, I am not sure I'd be interested... Although this "15 years after" gives me a little hope...P.S. Apparently, I can be at peace. According to Guardian, "The Testaments will be set 15 years after Offred’s final scene in The Handmaid’s Tale and is narrated by three female characters. It will not be connected to the A sequel to "The Handmaid's Tale." Hmm... Based on the scary prophetic power of some of Margaret Atwood's other dystopian social studies, I am not sure I can even stomach the idea of what will happen to Offred next. May I suggest a feel-good start, changing her name into Nofred?

I hardly ever binge-watch anything but over the last three days I've watched all of season one and half of season two. I. Am. Obsessed. I enjoyed the book too. So I'm super excited for this sequel. I don't think I can wait until September 2019, though...

to be perfectly honest i kind of wish this wasn’t happening. part of what i loved about the original was how hermetically sealed it felt, to the degree that a sequel or an expansion practically feels like it breaks the structure?but like. it’s margaret atwood, so i will read it and probably love it and look back on this pre-review as me being whiny and averse to change. i hope

It can't possibly be as good as I want it to be - in fact, I am already very pessimistic. There has been so much hype since the TV show that if it were more like the show and less like the first book I would be very disappointed.

This is easily my most anticipated book for 2019. HOWEVER. Has it only been written to create more content for the television series?Don’t get me wrong, the show is incredible. I’ve only seen the first season so far, but there is already a fear that the story will get tired and lost the more seasons are created. Handmaids Tale works perfectly as a stand-alone and I’m a believer that it should remain that way. Basically, I want this book to convince me otherwise. Please!
