Overnight Sensation (Brooklyn Bruisers, #5)
Everyone knows the girl is off limits. But it's so good to be bad.
There's this girl...Heidi and I have been trading hungry looks all year, and everything she does makes me smile. But I don't do girlfriends, and I certainly can't get involved with the league commissioner's daughter. I need shots on goal, not a hookup and a widely misunderstood paparazzi photo. Can I resist her, though? The way she teases me should be a game penalty for interference with my libido.
There's this guy...Jason wants me, but he won't admit it. That man looks at me the way a hockey player eyes the lunch buffet after practice--and I love it. But when victory is finally within my grasp, I blow it and humiliate myself. Even then I can't even avoid him--as the team intern, I'm in constant view of his hard body and cocky smile. I need another chance. Jason Castro is about to learn the true meaning of an overnight sensation.

4 stars!!!! I love the Brooklyn Bruisers books, and I was so excited to read about Jason Castro! I loved his book. Another hit in this awesome hockey romance series. Jason is the guy who doesn’t do relationships. Yes. He’s that guy. But there is this girl named Heidi who has been interning for the Bruisers and they’ve been circling each other. The thing is, Heidi is off limits for Jason. Her dad is important (the NHL commissioner) and Jason is off limits for Heidi (hockey player). It doesn’t mat 4 stars!!!! The thing is, Heidi is off limits for Jason. Her dad is important (the NHL commissioner) and Jason is off limits for Heidi (hockey player). It doesn’t matter though, that pull is still there between them. I don’t remember ever wanting anything as badly as I want Jason Castro right now. There was a lot of push and pull in this one, a lot of friends to lovers, denying the feelings and all that jazz, but they have so much chemistry. Heidi was a fun character. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this 20 year old spoiled girl, but my goodness, she was so much more than what met the eye. Heidi is a hard worker, resourceful, fights for what she wants, and really is a sweetheart. Jason Castro. Sigh. I loved Jason as well. He’s a really good guy. He’s had a big of a tragic relationship past that has made him hesitant to be with anyone so he does fight it a bit, but once he’s committed he’s all in and it’s the very best! This is one of my favorite hockey series. I love Sarina’s writing. Her characters are endearing and the stories make me smile, laugh, and feel. This book was fun, sweet, sexy, and emotional and I really enjoyed it! I’m hoping we get more from this series because there are still many characters I’d like to read about! Keep em’ coming!! “You and I are going to be a thing.” “A thing? What’s that?” “It’s whatever we want it to be. It’s our thing.”

I have to admit that I only read 2 Brooklyn Bruisers books before this one. One was the one right before this one: Brooklynaire - which I loved! And then I obviousely read the amazing True North Series - of which Bountiful had a Bruisers player in it too! ☺So now here is Heidi and Jason's book.I really love Heidi! With her adorable accent! I tried reading her scenes in an accent - very talent-free I have to admit! ☺And Castro is just as adorable! Poor guy. But when the league commissioner’s daughter, Heidi, sets her sights on him, he quickly realizes, spending time with Heidi is easier than avoiding her. ❝She’s like a beam of sunshine. And my cloudy ass could really use some of that.❞ Heidi is feisty, whip-smart and hungry. Hungry for success and hungry for Jason Castro. Her daddy may have decided an internship with the Brooklyn Bruisers isn’t good enough for her, but she’s out to prove him wrong and along the way, prove to Jason that she’s right for him.Bowen is a pro at showing vulnerability in her men, and strength in her women (two of my favorite character traits), thereby, perfectly balancing out the funny with the serious in her stories. If you love witty banter, a good laugh and thoughtful moments, grab ‘Overnight Sensation’, you won’t be disappointed!I was provided a review copy by the author. The Brooklyn Bruiser series is one of my favorite series ever and I was so excited that we were getting Jason Castro's book!! Gah!! I loved him in the previous books in the series but now we get to be in his head?! JACKPOT!! Overall I thought this book was great and loved the chemistry between Heidi and Castro. It was sexy and flirtyband umm Castro's dirty mouth? *fans self* - what a delicious surprise. I thought he and Heidi were great together as they brought out the best in one another! Ok in all honesty, at first I wasn't sure what to expect from Heidi Jo. Her naivete and zealousness of wanting Jason was a little off putting as times, but like Jason, she wore me down and I frankly found her to be adorable after a while. She was genuine, kind, honest and I began to root for them. Bowen does a fantastic job highlighting the comraderie between both Heidi and the team and Castro and the rest of the Bruisers. The banter in this book was gold and I loved seeing Heidi come into her own and Jason coming to terms with his painful past. All in all this was another wonderful addition to the series and I for one can not wait to see what happens (if anything) between Silas and a certain pop star! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula***If there was ever any doubt whether I would ever get enough of Sarina Bowen's Brooklyn Bruisers, I'd have to say the answer is unequivocally no. Just. No. Not ever. Keep 'em coming. But also excuse me for a minute because I'm having...a thing with Jason Castro right now.Good gravy but he's delicious. He's everything I hoped he would be, but also with this sort of unexpected depth that I never really saw coming. He's all kinds of flirty banter, devilish charm, and scorching hot dirty mouth. But he's also unexpectedly tender and insecure. There are layers here, and I completely lost myself in every one of them. I couldn't get enough!Heidi Jo was equally unexpected. She's quirky in a way that did take some getting used to, but once I got a feel for her personality, I adored her the way every other person who came into her orbit seemed to. She's a little bit off-beat, but charming nonetheless and her chemistry with Castro was 100% on point. I adored them together, and loved how their personalities complemented each other. On top of the sizzling and adorable relationship between Heidi Jo and Castro, I reveled in the way Heidi Jo wrangled the rest of the hockey team and, of course, one of my favorite parts of any sports romance is the bromantic secondary storyline. Silas was a bit of an occasional scene-stealer here, and I cannot wait to see what Ms. Bowen has in store for him!All in all? A completely compelling, emotionally satisfying, sexy, sassy, fun story! Keep 'em coming and I'll keep showing up first in line with my grabby hands out of control! ~ Shelly, 4.5 Stars

Where things get interesting is when the identity of Heidi's father is revealed, complicating/stalling any progress the two might have had.But what makes things so unique in this story is how Heidi's father punishes her, leading to some entertaining moments. Before I share my thoughts on the heroine . . .I have a little pet peeve in romance books. I hate when a heroine has no career. Whether it be a choice (the finances to be able to do nothing), or not a choice (hero won't allow her to), I really have an issue with these stories. First, I find the time when they are alone to be a bit boring. Second, and much more importantly, I love a woman with ambition, whether it works in her favor or not, I don't care. I just want her to have a vision for herself in the book and to work for that vision. So with that said, I can say that I adored the heroine for the reasons above. Despite the awful way her father treats her, she doesn't back down, not only rising to the position, but using her time in these odd jobs at the team facility, my favorite being her time as a mascot. Hilarious, Gritty would be proud (Flyers mascot). On top of that, Heidi manages to create a side business with the players to bring in additional money. I loved her spirit and resourcefulness. With those ventures, I saw a number of ways things would eventually work out for her, if she could just be patient. Added bonus was her sense of humor:"Maybe the forecast is wrong. A snow storm is like a man. You never know how long it will go or how many inches you're getting."All this talk about the heroine, I guess I should share my thoughts on Jason too. I did like his protect side, despite how it may have irritated Heidi and times. And I liked how once he committed to taking a chance with her, he didn't let her dad and his position scare him. Jason had his issues, and I won't get into them, mostly because he sorts them out fairly quickly, so the angst is manageable.Every time I walk into a room where she is, I feel lucky. It is worth noting that this is part of the Brooklyn Bruisers series, since there is no reference of that on Goodreads or Amazon. Although I haven't read the previous books in the series, I didn't feel lost within this storyline as this features a different couple (but spoilers are within as to which couples are together now).Overall, I enjoyed this read. It was a sweet romance with good insight into my favorite sport. I will definitely check out the other books in the series.*An ARC was received for an honest review. For more reviews, visit

4.5 Stars This was a fun read! Heidi and Castro are perfect together. They are both a force to be reckoned with. Each on their own and especially together. While being together, spending time together is easy for both of them, the prospect of a relationship is something both of them isn't sure about. It's not the right time for neither. Heidi and Castro are perfect together. They are both a force to be reckoned with. Each on their own and especially together. While being together, spending time together is easy for both of them, the prospect of a relationship is something both of them isn't sure about. It's not the right time for neither. Jason Castro's previous year might have been GREAT yet it finished horribly so from an "Overnight Sensation" he became someone who isn't sure about his future in the team. Yet he is willing to put up a fight to be a better player so he can keep playing the game he loves so much. Jason is known for being easy going, especially when the ladies are concerned, but his reasoning isn't just about having fun it's him not being ready to put his heart on the line after losing his ex-girlfriend in a car accident a few years ago. So when he sees the HOT intern - Heidi Pepper - or as everyone calls her - Hot Pepper - he wants a fun night but nothing more, he's just not sure about doing it with someone he sort of works with..Heidi Pepper is enjoying her internship with the "Brooklyn Bruisers" she LOVES her boss Rebecca and hopes that now she is becoming the "Big Boss" she will have an opportunity to take her previous job. Yet just as she can envision her new exciting position her father - the League's Commissioner - decides to teach her a lesson for not returning back to college to finish her last year - he makes her work ALL the most basic jobs on the team so she can learn how "the other half" lives. Heidi is hard working, though most jobs are physically demanding and some of her co-workers or temporary bosses are A-Holes, she manages because she can see what she wants in front of her eyes. But what her father mostly made her realize is - she doesn't want to be under his thumb anymore so she moves out of his luxury apartment. Problem is she has very little money so somehow she finds herself staying on Castro and Silas' couch. While Castro is great about Heidi staying with him and Silas, I think Silas was actually more friendly and into helping Heidi. That's actually an issue I had with Castro at the start. He was a bit too self centered. Heidi NEEDED a friend and he was focused about himself and how uncomfortable he is with her around with his attraction to her. Heidi is also attracted to Castro. She sees in him exactly what she wants in a man, she is willing to accept a one-night-stand but he is still not sure about it, and she isn't sure how to seduce him. Silas had a great idea for Heidi to make a bit more cash on the side. Heidi grabs his idea with both hands and makes a real business out of it. It's amazing how resourceful she is! There is literally nothing she can't do. Castro isn't the only one who says she can rule the world. YES SHE CAN. But still she wants the job on the team as Rebecca's replacement and it's not really working for her when she has ANOTHER fight with her father in which he delays his "punishment" for her for a longer period of time. In the meanwhile Castro and Heidi becomes friends and somehow along the way they also share an amazing night together. That's when it becomes awkward and not because it's difficult to spend time together now after they've "done the deed", it's because they both want more even if they agreed it won't be. I enjoyed seeing Heidi and Castro becoming friends, and getting attached to one another. As Castro have said, Heidi is bossy when she is clothed but once she isn't it's time for Castro to take control and besides that they enjoy bickering and arguing with one another. It's their "thing". Though it took Castro a bit more time than Heidi (to see her as his friend) he does at last and from there it was beautiful to see their friendship and how they helped one another and been there. Even if it's just making him his sandwich before a game or telling her father how great she is at everything she does even if it's "unskilled job". There's more to this book but I'll stop here. It was truly great spending more time with the team. I"d LOVE to get Silas' story, I guess he's next? maybe? I"m quite sad about Bayer (thought maybe he will get a book too?). But it wasn't just about the guys, Georgia and Rebecca were great fun as well :)Yep! Recommended! I kindly received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

It took a while but they evolved from crush, to roomies to more. Sarina Bowen as always has combined hockey, humor and romance in a awesome way. It has you engaged and engrossed in that world. I also have to add this book with Silas and Castro's cute roomie thing works well and would definitely like to know more about Silas. Bayer too since we saw more of him here, he has a good story. Plus the little details make this one even better! *** ARC provided for an honest review ***
