Hotshot Doc
Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant. That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated. It’s fine.I’m fine.I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

I can’t give myself over to a man who has the power to upend my life so easily.HOTSHOT DOC is yet another FIVE STAR READ by the amazingly talented R.S. Grey! Over the past few years, I have become one of her die-hard fans. If you’ve never read anything by this author, I highly recommend that you give her a chance. My heart is brimming with love for Matt and Bailey’s story. For those of you who enjoy a good ”enemies-to-lovers” romance, this is one that you need to add to your TBRs ASAP! A story that has an engaging plot, swoon-worthy Hero, and a Heroine who steals your heart, HOTSHOT DOC just became one of my top favorite books by R.S. Grey! You can’t help but fall for Bailey. She’s sweet, silly, and has such a gentle soul. She has been the sole guardian of her fourteen-year-old sister for several years and there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to make sure that Josie is healthy and happy, including putting her social life on hold. Truth be told, no one has really caught her eye until a certain “McDreamy” like doctor started working at her hospital. Dr. Matt Russell is every woman’s fantasy, but he’s notorious for his hot temper and for making most of his physician assistants quit because none of them can handle his verbal abuse and high standards. Bailey ends up becoming his latest victim when the doctor she’s worked with for the past four years retires and recommends Bailey to Dr. Russell, who happens to have just scared away his latest physician assistant.Matt and Bailey don’t get off to the greatest start in the beginning, but there’s an instant chemistry that’s hard to deny between them. No matter how terrific Bailey is at being his PA, it doesn’t seem to curb his rude behavior towards her and it’s driving her insane because she wants so badly for him to like her and to receive validation from Matt that she's doing a kick-ass job. Once the truth behind his belligerent attitude is revealed things quickly heat up between Matt and Bailey.Matt has many layers of sweetness buried underneath his cold exterior and the two quickly get swept up in a whirlwind romance. As with all stories, there’s something just around the corner waiting to burst the couples’ perfect bubble. Is their love strong enough to face the challenges ahead of them? Here are my overall ratings:Hero: 5Heroine: 5Plot: 5Angst: 4Steam: 4.5Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5HOTSHOT DOC releases on December 6th. Grey’s latest rom-com. Only that there is a medical clinic. A pediatric spinal surgeon who is supposed to be the devil incarnate. A surgical assistant searching for a new boss. And a toe-curling, heartwarming and slow-burning romance laced with delicious tension and palpable chemistry. Now let's talk about it, shall we? Part 1, aka the sappy, you-can-hear-the-violins-playing-in-the-background part. The past months have been a whirlwind workwise. I was (and still am) barely able to breathe, let alone read, so every time I returned home, I would put on my PJs, watch trashy TV shows and stay in the couch until I’d move to bed. Lather, rinse, repeat. I was so emotionally spent, tired to my very bones, that my brain refused to focus on anything. My soul ached for books to uplift me, to speak to me, to mend my wings that were in tatters, a product of anxiety and exhaustion. There were only a handful of authors who could startle me out of my stupor, and R.S. Grey is one of them. When Hotshot Doc hit my Kindle, however, it was met with trepidation. What if I was broken beyond repair? What if the hard slap of reality inflicted permanent damage to my love for reading? I should have known better than to question R.S. Grey’s healing abilities. Her words were like water to parched land. I inhaled them, I devoured them and I realized that after a very long time, I was content. And I can’t thank Rachel enough for that. Part 2, aka the SOMEBODY CALL A DOCTOR, MATT GAVE ME HEART PALPITATIONS part. The Queen of Rom-Coms strikes again, and it’s a lethal blow to the possibilities of ever finding someone who can be compared to her male characters. Dr. Matt Cooper is a soft teddy-bear hidden behind a cold, aloof fortress, but once you crack his walls, you’re irrevocably in love. Was he a jerk on numerous occasions? Sure. Was he unfair to Bailey? Yes. But the way he opened up, the way he fell head over heels that led to sweet gestures and SCORCHING encounters charred what was once my heart. From the anticipation built for the first kiss to the explosion of glorious feelings when they were finally together, R.S. Grey, with her refined writing skills, crafted a romance that became one of my favorites. Bailey was a really endearing heroine, her devotion to her little sister was touching, and so was the way she crept in Matt’s cold heart. With the perfect blend of laughter, steam and all-encompassing feelings, she proved once more that rom-coms is her domain, and she rules it with an iron grip!If you’re up for a romance reminding you of Grey’s Anatomy, with a surgeon that is the love child of McDreamy and McSteamy and a variety of fireworks that warm your insides, please don’t hesitate and grab a copy of Hotshot Doc!*ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*Review also posted on BookNest!

Wow! Just wow! This was seriously one of the most fun books I've read this year! Once I started I just could not put it down and I enjoyed every single page. The only problem is that he is a bit of an asshole, he's not afraid to make people cry and he is definitely not getting any Mr Sensitive awards. His surgical assistants don't last very long becasue no one can tolerate working with him. Unfortunately for our heroine Bailey, she just got that job.Bailey has got to be one of my favorite heroines. Her witty humor had me constantly cracking up throughout this book. She had a spine of steel and she never cowered in front of Matt like everyone else. She called him out on his BS and he actually loved that about her. She was also such a selfless character who sacrificed so much to take of her sister.Bailey brings out the best in Matt. I loved how committed he was to his patients but he starts to realize there is more to life than the hospital and with Bailey, he starts to want more. These two together were SO SWEET and SO SEXY! I love romance stories like this just have me smiling like a damn fool throughout the whole book.I have to give the author credit for ensuring accuracy of details as it pertains to the procedures in the O.R. As someone who works in the medical field, I am always hesitant to read medical based romance books because more often than not the medical scenes are innacurate. R.S. Grey obviously did her research and I appreciate the authenticity of the medical aspects of this book so so much! I highly recommend this one! Full of laugh out loud, sexy and heartfelt moments! It will make you feel warm and fuzzy and hot and bothered all at the same time. This is FEEL GOOD romance at its best!5 StarsContemporary RomanceDual POVHeat Level: ModerateHEAFollow me for your next comfort read!

I can’t wait to tell you about them.Bailey Jennings might have entertained the idea of studying medicine at a point many years ago. But at the age of twenty, her parents were killed and she became the guardian of her little sister, Josie. Never for a minute did she regret her choice. She loves her sister and they have a wonderful relationship. Now, Bailey is a surgical assistant to a wonderful doctor in the spinal department. Only, her perfect boss is retiring. There is only one other doctor in their department that needs a new assistant and he is the very last doctor Bailey wants to work for.Dr. Matthew (Matt) Russell has chosen pediatric spinal surgery as his specialty. Only Dr. Russell has a reputation at their hospital. He can’t seem to hold on to an assistant. His former assistants claim to needing therapy after their time with him. He is brutal. He is also beautiful. Bailey has been noticing him for some time. But she has never spoken to him. She knows all about his reputation. But it isn’t until she sits in on one of his surgeries that she gets it. That she witnesses his talent. Bailey and Matt get off to a rough start. But they develop a respect for one another and yes, there is chemistry! Lots and lots of chemistry. The kind of chemistry that can’t stay contained forever. And when it is finally released, it’s earth shattering. Can they continue a working relationship, though, while pursuing a personal one as well? And of course, just when they think things are perfect, life throws them a curve ball. I loved this book, every word of every page. Matt and Bailey were wonderful. Matt’s transformation was beautiful. Bailey’s little sister was a show stealer. She was adorable. I also really enjoyed Matt’s younger brother, Cooper. Even though he wasn’t in this much. This was such a wonderful book. These characters have stolen my heart. R.S. Grey is one of those authors that you know before you open Chapter one that you are going to be in for a wonderful ride. And that’s exactly what she gave me with Hotshot Doc. I can’t wait to see what she is going to do next. Grey’s delivers another charming, sparkling and emotional involving contemporary romance with the tale of arrogant, cold-blooded, yet brilliant surgeon Dr. Russell and smart, strong, surgical assistant who’s about to tilt his world on its axis. “No one has ever talked to me like Bailey did last night, not a colleague, not another attending at the hospital, and definitely not a surgical assistant.” When Bailey’s boss decides to retire, she’s left with options: change specialties, or join Dr. McMeanie in the OR while simultaneously trying to tamp down her desire to kill and kiss the gorgeous, insufferable man. But with the way he stares at her, her feelings might be reciprocated. While Bailey is doing her best to be a model employee and chip at Matt’s iron walls, the exasperatingly attractive and skilful man has been picking away at hers and soon their both in a relationship no one expected, but will Matt’s commitment to help one child at a time and Bailey’s need to take care of her 14 year old sister break them apart?Grey creates a grin inducing enemies-to-lovers story that organically moves from romantic comedy to steamy and swoon worthy romance about two individuals who weren’t looking for love but found it in their impossible to ignore attraction. Both Matt and Bailey are smart and witty characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Yes, Rachel tends to write cocky, jerk-ish heroes but they also have redeemable qualities and Matt’s steadfastness to help children with painful spinal conditions is just as admirable as Bailey’s dedication to taking care of her sister. R.S. Grey’s books are a must read for me. They are hooking and entertaining and I love the balance between sexual tension, hilarity, banter and love in this case penned over a very well described medical environment which pulled me right into the OR as a witness to the romance. Hotshot Doc is a full length contemporary romance by R.S. Grey. It is a standalone frienemies to lovers rom-com, told from both points of view with a happily ever after, no cliffhanger.Amazon -> https://amzn.to/2rdWczk* I was given an ARC of this book courtesy of the author. I was struggling to find a book that would just BLOW. ME. AWAY. And then ENTER RS GREY...I DEVOURED this book in one sitting. I spent one entire day falling head over heels in love with a brooding jerk of a surgeon and his quirky surgical assistant. I laughed. My heart ACHED. I swooned. I was swept away by the sweetest, sexiest, most unforgettable romance. I just can't say it enough, I LOVED THIS BOOK. Hotshot Doc is EXACTLY the kind of rom com I enjoy. I'm not even a huge fan of rom com but if I'm going to read it, I want it to look just like this one. It's not silly, it's sharp and so, so smart. It's light but it's emotional right where I need it to be. It's heartwarming and fun but it's woven seamlessly with the perfect dose of angsty heartache. I still want my heart to hurt a bit in my romance even though it feels so good to read. I want to get lost, I want to feel every little bit of the build. I want to be completely immersed in the fall, completely connected to the characters, completely invested in their relationship. I want to feel all the things. And RS Grey knows how to write exactly what I want because I just couldn't get enough of this book. If you enjoy the intensity and the drama of Grey's Anatomy but you like it lightened up a bit with some sexy romance and stellar comedic timing, Hotshot Doc MUST be your next read. You just need it. You need Dr. Matthew Russell in your life. You need his cruel barbs and his raw masculinity so you can fall hopelessly in love with the sweet, tender hearted man beneath. You need Bailey Jennings' selflessnes, her humor, her determination. You need to see firsthand how deliciously romantic this book is, how steamy it gets, how much your heart will twist and tug as the story evolves. You NEED to read this book. And then, like me, you'll immediately need to read it again.

But that's the way it goes. Like I said, Rachel did it again. Time and time and again the rom com Queen hits it out of the park. And each time it's hard for me to choose which one of her Heroes is my favorite because they just get better and better. And this time, the broody and devilish Dr. Matt Russell has taken the wheel. And again, I have another book boyfriend to add to my favorites list. There's more to Matt than what his colleagues know. At work he's hard hitting with his take charge attitude. He doesn't care that he's not liked. But boy, underneath all that hardness and coldness is such a sweet soul. Oh my gosh I fell so hard for this Hotshot Doc. Paging Dr. Russell, I need you to prescribe me some of your TLC.Bailey, Bailey, Bailey, sweet beautiful Bailey. She was exactly what the doctor ordered. Ha, you see what I did there? Ok, ok, I'll see myself out. Honestly though, she was exactly what Matt needed. She didn't cower just because of who he is. She gave just as good and put him in his place. And I was living for all of it. I kept saying "yes, you go, girl!" She definitely became a favorite of mine.Matt and Bailey were everything! I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship. Yes, their attraction was undeniable, but the fact that they became friends before anything else happened just made their relationship that much better. I loved these two so much. I couldn't get enough of them, just like I couldn't get enough of Josie, my gosh she was a riot. I wanted more from all three of them.Hotshot Doc was the perfect mix of angst and slow burn. It had Rachel's signature touch of laugh-until-your-stomach-hurts moments. With characters that'll sweep you away and crave you wanting more. Rom com Queen strikes again. Definitely recommend.

It turns me on to the point of close-tearing, nail-dragging, teeth-biting insanity.”Hotshot Doc is a fun and entertaining read. It’s flawless writing will have you hanging on every word and begging for more. From the moment I started reading Hotshot Doc, I was absolutely hooked. I fell in love with the characters and couldn’t wait to see how their story would play out. Bailey is the kind of woman you want in your corner. She’s smart, great at her job, devoted and someone you can count on. She’s given up a lot in life and found herself to be the guardian of her little sister at a young age. She’s doing the best that she can, but that devotion doesn’t leave much time for a social life. However, fate has other plans. When the Doctor Bailey works for suddenly retires, she finds herself forced to work with the hospital’s most feared doctor…Matt is feared by everyone he crosses paths with and has been known to make his surgical assistants cry. When his latest assistant quits, he’s on the fence about bringing on someone new, but can’t resist giving Bailey a shot. And let me tell you, Bailey is a forced to be reckoned with. She isn’t just going to stand there and tolerate Matt’s intense, brooding behavior. She challenges him at every turn and the breath of fresh air he never knew he was looking for. The tension between Matt & Bailey is off the charts. They should hate each other and stay away, but the fire between these two might just prove to be too hard to extinguish……Hotshot Doc was such a fun read. I loved the setting and the story-line. I got a kick out of all the Grey’s Anatomy references and fell head over heels for the characters. I adored Bailey and respected how hard she worked and how devoted she was to her little sister Josie. Their relationship was so sweet. You could tell that these two looked out for each other’s best interests and they were more like best friends than sisters.I had a lot of fun getting to know Matt & Bailey. I loved their pull and how much they challenged each other. Their chemistry was amazing and kept me dying for more. Matt & Bailey’s story is the kind that you want to just read in one sitting and that you won’t want to put down until you reach the end. It’s filled with lots of laughs, scorching chemistry, a lot of will they/won’t they moments and some delicious sexy good times. I really enjoyed how well Matt & Bailey just worked together and had a lot of fun seeing their story unravel.I fell head over heels for Hotshot Doc from the very first page. It was everything I was looking for in a romantic comedy. With light drama and little angst, Hotshot Doc is a straight up love story that will give you all the feels and leave you with a huge smile on your face. I really enjoyed spending my day getting lost in these characters.*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

Once they started working together, the sparks started flying.Matt and Bailey wasn't the only relationship here that I was loving. Bailey's relationship with her sister Josie was so enjoying to read about it. They were close and Bailey didn't brush her sister to the side while she developing a relationship with Matt. She made her feel welcome to join them on outings and while they were hanging out. Also, two sisters who are obsessed with Grey's Anatomy and constantly watched the show? I love it!All in all, R.S. Grey has gotten me again. I don't think there is a book that she writes that I won't love. Thank you RS Grey, you saved me from my dry spell with this fantastically adorable book!I just absolutely love Rachel's writing, especially her heroine's. They just feel so real to me. At first I wasn't so sure about going into this book. I was hesitant because I'm in healthcare and if there's one big pet peeve I have, it's incorrect information with my occupation. Within the first chapter I was already sucked in. I absolutely adored Bailey! I loved her struggles in life and her perseverance to keep looking ahead. She is not a quitter and always is working to get to the next level in order to provide more for her sister. These two! I just adored Bailey and Josie's relationship! I loved how even though Bailey was the guardian and the adult in their duo, they really were a team. Totally heartwarming.Oh wait...I haven't even mentioned the hero! Holy freaking hell. A broody egomaniac surgeon at the top of his field with looks to kill. I couldn't wait to see how Bailey was going to turn Dr. Matthew Russell into a softy. Rachel made it so easy to fall in love with him. The harder the shell, the softer the heart. And your heart is going to be the consistency of melted butter by the time you hit the epilogue! This book has it all. Enemies to lovers, office romance, hot bubbly angst and oeey gooey-melt your-heart tenderness. Rachel is once again at her best. She is my go to Rom Com author. She never lets me down when I need a beach read that you can read year round with depth that won't let you forget her characters anytime soon. Go meet Bailey, Matt and Josie today, they're waiting on you.

I am so in love with this book. When I got to the end of the book, I had a huge smile on my face but felt sad at the same time. I just loved it so much, I didn’t want it to end.Bailey was such a fantastic character. I loved her strength and drive. Matt, on the other hand, was arrogant and dismissive. I wanted to slap him at times. The more I read, the more I began to understand. Like Bailey, I learned that there was more underneath. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. The banter and the push and pull really pulled me in. As the story progresses they begin to meld into something else and I was a goner.I couldn’t get enough!! Everything from the characters, to the romance, the humor, even the excitement of the surgical aspect, all of it was incredible. I’m looking forward to whatever Grey gives us next.

I loved that their relationship was sort of hate to love, but they both openly admired one another for their intelligence and abilities in the OR, instead of constantly hating on each other. Their story was endearing, much like an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where there’s a touch of drama but also compassion and growth. This doesn’t have as much humor as her last book, Not So Nice Guy. Hotshot Doc was more like Arrogant Devil with drama, charm and a dash of quirkiness. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely laughed out loud a few times, but I found this story to be more engaging because of the occasional serious tone. I liked the way Matt and Bailey’s story unfolded, and I thought the pacing was perfect.I highly recommend picking this one up. It’s even free on KU, so why wouldn’t you read it? If you love a fun, quick romance, I promise you won’t regret reading this one.Cheers. 🥂

Hotshot Doc is a perfect moniker for Dr. Matthew Russell because it’s more than obvious that he’s a formidable surgeon, taking on children’s spinal cases that other doctors won’t touch, but what that name also illustrates is his arrogant nature and the fact that he may have a reputation as a brilliant doctor but his communication skills and the way he treats those who work for and with him are reprehensible, and this side of him is shown by the number of surgical assistants he has gone through a Hotshot Doc is a perfect moniker for Dr. Matthew Russell because it’s more than obvious that he’s a formidable surgeon, taking on children’s spinal cases that other doctors won’t touch, but what that name also illustrates is his arrogant nature and the fact that he may have a reputation as a brilliant doctor but his communication skills and the way he treats those who work for and with him are reprehensible, and this side of him is shown by the number of surgical assistants he has gone through as well as the fact that there’s a picture of him in the staff lounge with horns on his head to reiterate that his coworkers think he’s the devil himself. But a certain surgical assistant just might figure out how to handle this hotshot and make him focus a little more on his bedside manner as well as the parts of his life that have nothing to do with medicine, surgeries, or paperwork. Bailey Jennings is an amazing heroine - one who lives her life selflessly in order to take care of her sister, Josie. She’s feisty, intelligent, and dedicated when it comes to her job and her sister, and despite the fact that she doesn’t have much in terms of material wealth, her life is full and she’s happy. Bailey gave up her dream to be a doctor, so that she could be Josie’s guardian and she’s never regretted her decision, but her job as a surgical assistant and as her sister’s caretaker doesn’t leave her a lot of room for anything else, and while Bailey seems to be okay with her single status, Josie wants her sister to find a man, even if that means giving Bailey a few nudges to put herself out there more so than Bailey would do for herself. Dr. Russell and Bailey definitely don’t see eye-to-eye at the beginning of the story, which puts both of them on the defensive, but underneath the witty quips and callous putdowns, there’s sexual tension that they just don’t know what to do about and despite their superior intelligence, they can’t quite figure out how to act towards one another because even though they’re attracted to each other, it’s difficult to forget his reputation or the way he initially treated her. But I do have to say, the guy can’t be all bad because he goes over and above the call of duty to help his young patients live a full life and undertaking such an arduous task proves his heart functions just fine, but looking past his dickish demeanor is difficult for most people, so let’s hope that Bailey can unearth the romantic and passionate man Dr. Russell is beneath his rude and cruel facade because they just might be the exact person who the other one needs to live their best lives. I haven’t read a ton of medical romances, but I feel like R.S. Grey could take a bunch of medical terms and their definitions and find a way to infuse her wit and her comedic prowess into her writing even as she offers up the required terminology and explanations. And because I’ve been with Grey since her earlier stories, I’ve been able to experience her growth as a romance writer and I can wholeheartedly say that she is one of the best storytellers when it comes to romantic comedies because her humor is not over-the-top, her heroes and heroines are not stereotypical, and her storylines provide well-balanced plots that blend the perfect amounts of angst, steam, and hilarity.Readers of romantic comedy will love Matt and Bailey’s story and find themselves binge watching a certain medical drama in order to find other Hotty McHotpants;)4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)

I sound like a broken record when it comes to my reviews for her books but R.S. Grey really is the Queen of ROM-COM. Her books are perfectly geared toward her readers’ tastes, without ever being silly. The humor is infused into the character’s personalities, coming out in their snappy dialogue and sarcastic thoughts. In her FOURTH release of this year (GO GIRL!), I love that she’s given readers brand new characters we’ve never met before in a story comparable to an amazing episode of Grey’s Anatomy.Even though it took me forever to read this book because my life during the month of December is outrageous, I’m so glad I was able to make time for it, squeezing in my final pages of this book on release day. It was the perfect nightly read over the past few days, allowing me to unwind after each day’s craziness, and be completely sucked into the medical world of Bailey and Matt. I was impressed by R.S. Grey’s use of a different type of surgery for Matt to be involved in. We’re so used to neurologists and cardiologists, even gynecologists in the book world (ha!), it was refreshing to learn about spinal surgery without being inundated with details. I felt like I understood Matt and Bailey’s professions without feeling grossed out by in-depth descriptions of the surgery, too, which was a huge bonus!By now, I’m sure you guys know I LOVE a great enemies-to-lovers story and this one was perfectly done. The angst between these two was off the charts. I loved Bailey’s drive and selfless personality as we were able to witness her care for her younger sister, Josie, matched with Matt’s empathy disguised beneath his gruff persona. As these two butted heads, I couldn’t help but fall in love with what I knew was sure to come. When the lines between love and hate began to blur, I was done for.Honestly, Hotshot Doc ticked every box I needed it to. It was smart, sweet, and steamy, not to mention the nice Christmas scene applicable to this time of year. I could not get enough of the characters or the fact that R.S. Grey is able to crank out hit after hit, keeping me forever coming back for whatever she’s written. I can’t recommend Hotshot Doc enough, it’s definitely hitting the top of my list of this author’s works. A Place in the Sun still cannot be beaten, but this is a close second!

Think Greys Anatomy with humor, less drama, and no dying lol (I loved Greys) HOTSHOT DOC is a slowww burn, I was begging for them to kiss the first time they did!
