I eagerly awaited this book's release; the "Miss Fortune" series is some of the most fun I've had with books in a long while. She's even agreed to play one of the characters in the annual Halloween haybale maze: the executioner. She's spent an hour or so beheading a prop in the maze ... but when she comes back from her break, it's been replaced with an actual, decapitated body. Needless to say, Swamp Team 3 is on the case immediately. Deputy Carter Leblanc, for a change, is okay with the trio getting involved, because the state police and town nemesis Celia Arceneaux are trying to prove Carter incompetent for the job and he needs help to clear his own name. The laughs are a mile a minute as Gertie, Ida Belle, and Fortune try to find out "whodunnit" ... which I figured out well before the reveal. Still, the revelation of the "why" was a huge surprise and gave a great deal more insight to the character's motivations in other areas of the story. As usual, I found myself delighted by the characters in the tiny town. There were new folks to meet, and chuckles to be had. I can't wait until the next one is out.

Halloween is the holiday and the mystery begins and has plenty of twists. Fortune is now a PI and Ida Belle and Gertie are consultants/ associates. We still have plenty of action and Fortune is asked for help from an unusual source. The romance is there but the story has lots of action so it is a bit subdued. Awesome book and I give it ten stars as it is the Swamp Pack's first official case! Yes, I highly recommend the book!

Hilarious as always. When a book series reaches double digits, the series often becomes a bit stale and repetitive. Fortunately (sorry for the pun), Ms. Deleon has the ability to keep these books fresh and funny as ever, and I have greatly enjoyed experiencing Fortune filling her familial vacuum with great new soulmates in the quirkiest town in Louisiana (as a lifelong resident of the state, I can attest that making a place quirkier than real LA small towns is quite an accomplishment).

Happy HalloweenAs always Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie gave me a totally fun, fast paced, hilarious mystery. I love these three crime fighters. Good Halloween read. Always completely entertaining. Story being set in a spooky maze at a week long Halloween festival was perfect. As always those three are right in the middle of the bizarre mystery and up to their eyeballs in all the leads and clues that take us to an unexpected ending.

WonderfulEach book is filled with the antics of Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie mixed in with an excellent plot. For those who have read all of the books in the series so far, the imagination pales against the reality of what Jana DeLeon has come up with for the mischief the Troublesome Three get into at Halloween. Bring on the next book in the series and may they keep coming for years to come.

Very Good! 📚Fast paced and funny!! I wish Fortune and Carter’s relationship would develop into something more meaningful. Their relationship is mentioned once or twice in the book. I started this series because it was categorized as a romance. (This is not a romance, and why I gave it four stars.) However, I continue reading every new release because it is really very good!!

Loved this cozy series. Gert and Ida belle never fail to inject humor in the tale and it's always good to see Celia on the receiving end. Fortune's role in the Halloween maze set up for the kids is the Executioner...but someone subs her prop for a real body...one stolen from the morgue. With twists and turns in the search for who and why, Fortune tries to elude the state policemen intent on arresting her for it so they can go back home. Don't miss this installment

Swamp Team 3 gets right to businessWhen a severed head at a Halloween booth get the girls in trouble, and almost jailed for murder, they have to figure out how and why. Then other bodies pile up and the plot thickens. Of course, we have the comic relief (and its all Gertie’s fault, as usual), between poison ivy, tripping and getting stuck in an apple dunk (we have got to get that girl glasses)! And Ronald, the next door neighbor is a riot of pure crazy.
