Gmorning, Gnight!
From the creator and star of Hamilton, with beautiful illustrations by Jonny Sun, comes a book of affirmations to inspire readers at the beginning and end of each day.“When the world is bringing you down, Gmorning, Gnight! will remind you that you are awesome.”—BooklistGood morning. Do NOT get stuck in the comments section of life today. Make, do, create the things. Let others tussle it out. Vamos! Before he inspired the world with Hamilton and was catapulted to international fame, Lin-Manuel Miranda was inspiring his Twitter followers with words of encouragement at the beginning and end of each day. He wrote these original sayings, aphorisms, and poetry for himself as much as for others. But as Miranda’s audience grew, these messages took on a life on their own. Now Miranda has gathered the best of his daily greetings into a beautiful collection illustrated by acclaimed artist (and fellow Twitter favorite) Jonny Sun. Full of comfort and motivation, Gmorning, Gnight! is a touchstone for anyone who needs a quick lift.

I guess that is a thing. They are sweet. I stil don't regret spending her future college money on Tickets to Broadway's Hamilton in July, 2016. I thought that would finally quench my daughter's interest in Hamilton, L-MM, etc., but I neglected to plan for what a crafty, creative, and charismatic little man in a rollneck, two-button sweater he is. Hamilton isn't a one-off. Miranda is going to be with us (all of us; my family, etc.) for a long, long, long time. That isn't a bad thing. The book is basically a series of AM/PM tweets Miranda sent over the course of 100+ days in 2017, etc. (there are 200 pages, so I'm guessing it wasn't exactly 100 days and some rougher tweets were left on the editor's floor). They are encouraging, positive, funny, and like a lot of Lin-Manuel's art -- open and personal. They aren't perfect and some seem a bit uncooked, but overall, I liked the idea, effort, and execution. Plus, it bought me a bit of cred with my 16 year-old daughter. So, totally worth the modest price of admission. Oh, and I almost forgot ... Jonny Sun's doodles were on every page and sometimes stole the whole damn show. "Gnight, love. That need to rest, that constructive impulse, letit take the lead.I hope you dream the best, coolist shit. Let's go."7:21 PM - 21 Nov 2017

Reading this book was like receiving a warm hug from a loved one that you haven’t seen in a very long time. Like coming home and feeling instantly safer. Like looking up at the sky and knowing that no matter what happens, you will be okay.

This was exactly the thing I needed last night, and I'm so glad I sprung for both the physical book and the audiobook, because hearing Lin just dish out advice for 45 minutes or so was so, so nice. I had a particularly bad day yesterday where I was blaming myself for a bunch of mistakes that went down at work, and no matter how much I talked to family and friends about it after the fact, I couldn't shake the anxiety that had taken over my brain for the entire evening.Until I decided to just give up on the night and curl up in bed with this book. I know it might sound silly, because we get these good morning and good night tweets from him every single day and have for years - it's nothing new at all, and I'm pretty sure I'd seen all of these ones before - but it was just such a relaxing, comforting, calming experience. Listening to Lin enthusiastically read the advice and admirations and encouragement he'd previously written all while looking at Jonny's gorgeous interpretive linework... it was the exact catharsis my racing mind needed, and I didn't even realize it. By the end of the book, I was crying and exhausted and able to finally breathe without feeling like I was drowning. So thanks, guys. You've made a gorgeous creation that I am 100% going to be turning to time and time again when the world starts feeling like too much.

PSA to the world: Lin reads the audiobook himself! My copy doesn’t come in until later today so I listened to it on audio first but I will take a look through the physical copy tonight and see how Jonny’s illustrations are incorporated! I also plan to buy this audiobook just so I can have Lin’s pep talks to listen to whenever I need them.

"Good Morning.Eyes up. Hearts up. Minds Sharp.Compassion on full blast.*sips coffee*Okay, let’s go." I’ve always loved seeing Lin’s “g’morning, g’night” tweets, so I was really excited to have a book full of a collection of them. I consider this book a book of poetry, and found it to be a perfect little pick-me-up of encouraging things to read. I think this is a perfect coffee table book that is not only visually appealing and cute to look at, but also is actually something great to read!

Lin-Manuel Miranda manages to inspire me like no other. He is a true genius, artist and a master of his craft. I cannot say enough words to describe my admiration for him, and this book only furthered that. Simple, yet insightful, and also honest. To quote John Green, I would read Miranda's grocery lists (and probably still manage to find something profound written within it 😂).

No matter how you chose to read this one, it will be a lovely experience.I knew the little pep talks were going to be great. After all, I already follow Lin-Manuel Miranda on Twitter, and I love seeing all of his morning and night affirmations. When I heard he was putting together a book of these tweets, I could not wait to get my hands on a copy. And what an amazing job they did with this! The layout of the book is so much fun. I love that each page spread has a good morning and good night, many of which are in direct relation to the other. Where these little chunks of text are located on the pages varies, which adds to the overall feel and excitement of the book. It would be quite boring if they were all in the same spot on the page time and time again. The illustrations were also lovely! I really enjoyed how simple most of them were, and how they each related to the little pep talk on that specific page. I'm definitely going to have to check out more of Jonny Sun's work after this!As with any collection of things like this, there were a few pep talks that I enjoyed more than others.I really loved this collection and I highly recommend snagging a copy for yourself or to give as a gift! I can definitely see myself picking it up time and time again to read a random page.

The internet can be a pretty terrible place, but there’s a little corner of Twitter where the brilliant, charismatic, kind-hearted, infinitely talented Lin-Manuel Miranda sprinkles sunshine and kindness. This book is a collection of tweets he’s posted over several years, marking the beginning and end of his day, which started as a way to impart control over himself and step away from his phone. But his little tweets resonated with people, who insisted they be made into a book. This is that book. They are arranged in pairs, one gmorning and one gnight to bookend the day, and on his forward, he says they are the things he needed to hear and he changed the pronoun. They are encouraging and kind, funny and quirky, honest and empathetic, emotional and intelligent, goofy and fun. This isn’t a long read, but definitely one I’ll keep on the nightstand and flip through when I need that little voice in my head of LMM to get me through. He is definitely one of the greatest minds of our time and I love how honest and real, smart and energetic he is in everything he does, and I appreciate his contribution to my time on the Internet each day. 5/5 stars ⭐️

Seriously, though, it’s well written, sweet, and precise with adorable art work. Christmas is coming. Birthdays, graduation, you name it. This is the perfect gift for literally anyone that needs a moment of sweetness. Obviously, this is a five star book for me. This book is short and sweet and simple, and exactly what I hoped it would be. If you follow Lin-Manuel Miranda on Twitter, as I do, you know what to expect. It's such an uplifting breath of fresh air, and the illustrations only add to that. I will be flipping through this one often, I'm sure.
