A little more story, a lot more gorgeous art.Via former comrade-in-arms Bendrix, we learn a little bit more about Rook’s backstory, most importantly some information about her role in the Circle/Queen’s Guard. Also some more revelations regarding her character – she’s empathetic enough to offer food to (what appears to be) a starving child (quite karmatically), while also ruthless enough to draw her dagger as soon as Bendix recognizes Her Majesty incognito. So far so good, though I’m not hugely invested in anything yet.The artwork continues to be the standout. Every page make such beautiful use of color to set the tone, from dark purples to dusty yellow. The page below highlights (IMHO) some of the best panels so far, transitioning from green to red as the violence unfolds. Great stuff.

Captain Rook coming through! I honestly thought she's this soft and mild-mannered character but wow, she got stabby in this one fast, hee. It's interesting to see Rook and Queen Owlyn's path diverge a little bit in this with Rook meeting Bendix and Olwyn meeting Moro. However, it's still all quite slow-paced story and I was definitely hoping for more story than we get in this issue.Ugh, I just love the art in this! Whoever thought to give the tigress a mix of blue and green colors did amazingly Captain Rook coming through! The setting is more woodsy and takes place in ruins this time around, but it's still majestic and awe-inspiring.

The art for this series is simply stunning. I cannot get over how beautiful each page is. I wish the story was as strong. We got some hints to what happened before issue 1 of this comic. While I do enjoy the mysteries, I also wish we knew a bit more of the back story to make the plot a bit easier to follow. That being said, Rook is proving an interesting character, and I can't wait to see what the Queen is up to with that hobo spirit guide type person whose name I can't recall at the moment.

The art is so good it makes me wish the storytelling were better. The big plot point that happens here doesn’t have as much impact as it would if it happened 10 issues in. Fletcher keeps introducing too many characters and doing too much world building in each issue. We can’t get a grasp on anything to keep us interested. This is def my last issue. Big disappointment.
