Hate Me
I'm a criminal. A businessman. A cartel boss. She’s a favour. Collateral. A pretty slave. I have no interest in her beyond keeping her alive for the man who now owns her. And yet…I’m fascinated by the little Russian. There is no room for weakness in my world, but it appears the delicate rose has steel petals. I’m willing to bleed for a willing touch, a trusting glance… A broken little bird. The big bad wolf. A longing that could heal or destroy. Hate me or hold me?

Any of LP Lovell's books is a fucking MUST read for me...so, effin DUH?! LOL :)This is Anna and Rafael's story... Anna Vasiliev being Una Ivanov's sister and Rafael D'Cruze being a mexican cartel boss and acquitance and business contact of Nero Verdi. We meet them all in Kiss of Death series (Kill me and Kiss me) but now we have a full impact of what happened between Anna and Rafael, from the time, Rafael acted as a laison to "pick" Anna up as a new sex trade bought by Nero as a collateral Any of LP Lovell's books is a fucking MUST read for me...so, effin DUH?! LOL :)This is Anna and Rafael's story... Anna Vasiliev being Una Ivanov's sister and Rafael D'Cruze being a mexican cartel boss and acquitance and business contact of Nero Verdi. We meet them all in Kiss of Death series (Kill me and Kiss me) but now we have a full impact of what happened between Anna and Rafael, from the time, Rafael acted as a laison to "pick" Anna up as a new sex trade bought by Nero as a collateral and placed under Rafael's protection.Anna is broken, was broken over and over from the age of 13 when she was separated from Una in the orphanage, Una was placed under a different torture that eventually turned her into the notorious assassin known as "Kiss of death", but Anna's fate was devastating on a whole other level. She was trained to be a sex slave, her body bent and obeyed to every vile, horrid violation but her mindset made her survive. She learned how to block it all, how to turn off and endure. She was a whore, used and abused but she was a survivor with her own inner strength and will power but it took tool on her perception of surroundings and other people, especially men. Years of slavery have made me hate men like him with every fiber of my being, and perhaps just men in general. They all disgust me, and yet I can't help but notice Rafael's cold form of beauty. and that very fact, terrifies her cause Rafael doesn't show any sign of what she expects of a man like him to want from her. He makes no move, no sexual hint, he's unpredictable and that scares her, cause she can't prepare her mind to shut down when needed. He's quite the opposite, he brings her comfort and confidence. He gives her solace and hope and just a hint of freedom. "Choose whether you want to be a victim or a survivor." He both, challenges and sooths her, he's fascinated by her, intrigued by her and feels connected to her and she's torn within, cause she knows nothing of the upcoming fate that's unknown... "What do you want?""I want to be free," she whispers."No, you don't. You say you want it, but I offer it to you, and you're scared to take it. You're so busy being so goddamn angry that you haven't realized you're standing in a cage and the door is open." he slowly gives her purpose, gives her a push towards an outlet in retaliation, he pushes her to release the inner anger and rage that is screaming to be let out.BUT Rafael has his own scarred past and his ruthlessness has a price...and the situation he finds himself in with Anna, with this crawling need to be close to her, only complicates things, as the rising feelings towards her puts him in an ungrateful position of business breach that is unsavory and won't go well for either party in question...and it's a checkmate stalemate position to be in, cause there's no way, he'll let her go, now that she's shown him the glimpse of her inner soul that has survived all those years in torture...even if he's aware that he will have to...eventually "You want to own me?""No, I want to love you...But I'm giving you a choice... And, it's to be continued...*wink*Still recognizable writing style of LP Lovell as we are used to reading in her books, and yet this story takes a different pace and tone than her usual work. It still ventures into the dark area, but the emphasis is on the emotional and psychological portrayal of both characters and how they mostly mentally seek solace in each other without the physical intercourse, (and that's where the intriguing power of LP+s writing comes to full forte). That's why the pacing is set from slow to mild with intervals of rush and anticipation, when you fully appreciate those small tokens of physical affection , thus having quite an impression with the seemingly ruthless male character and the image he has to up hold and yet with Anna, he's torn within between strong masculine raw power and tender controlled smooth touch . They are totally opposite from any of the characters Lauren wrote about, and yet they belong to the league of their own... *clears her throat*I had the honor of reading a BETA edited copy*shouts shamelessly*I fuckin love you, Lauren!!!!😍😍😍😍And Thank. You. So. Much.*pumps fists in the air*

This book was great! Its pretty dark and some scenes made me uncomfortable but the story was so good! Anna was sold as a sex slave at age 13. Being a cartel boss means being tough and killing without remorse, but he has a soft spot for Anna and wants to love her with all her traumas and darkness. He actually welcomes that darkness cause he’s kinda messed up too. Overall this was a good dark romance. This book ends on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait for book 2!

"I want to both cure her of the taint on her soul and corrupt it so entirely that she’s just as blackened as I am." After finishing Una and Nero's story, I couldn't wait to read about Anna. Although there's so doubt the two sisters are cut from the same cloth, Anna's book had a different vibe, more somber and yet in a way sweeter. What she went through broke her and at the same time there's still that defiance and strength that characterize her. Taken, sold, abused and used as a whore, Anna never lost her fight, though. I love the highly emotional tone of the story. Being in Anna's head was fascinating. LP Lovell captured Anna's struggles and hopelessness, her coping mechanisms in a way that felt real. Connecting with her was very easy.At the hands of Rafael who keeps her as collateral, she fights her demons. Lost, she tries to learn how to live and make the simplest choices. Rafael, boss of the Juarez Cartle is a ruthless and powerful man, but his control and patience toward Anna were incredible. She intrigues him, he respects her. Their relationship, given the threats and the tension they are subjected to, felt like a reprieve. Trust and hope might allow Anna to heal but these might be the exact things that will break her irrevocably.  "Anna. I want your darkness, your fire, your sheer will to survive.” An engaging plot, angst, rhythm, and L.P Lovell's mafia world compelled me. I can't wait to read more and see what decisions they are going to make.  I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

I honestly need more of Anna and Rafe... soon. Their story transported me and held me captive until I finished it; even now when I have finished it, they remain firmly planted in my mind. That's how good Lovell is.Anna is such a broken, yet strong and complex character. I loved reading her perspective of the story; her thoughts, her impressions, her feelings. She is so different from Una, yet just as captivating. I cannot wait for the rest of this series!

This story is about survival and figuring out the mystery behind this slave that has caught everyone's attention. It is a darker read, lots to get your blood pumping, and depravity at its finest. This story is not complete though and just when things start to come to to light we are thrown into darkness because the book ends. And now I want more...

"I want your darkness, your fire, your sheer will to survive."Hate Me is a raw and gritty cartel story that is hauntingly beautiful. While it does run parallel in the same world in Kill Me and Kiss Me, it can be read as a standalone. At the age of thirteen, Anna was sold as a slave. Just like her sister was three years prior. She's been sold multiple times and has had some very sick and twisted owners over the years. While she may use drugs to get through all of the horrific things that happens "I want your darkness, your fire, your sheer will to survive."Hate Me is a raw and gritty cartel story that is hauntingly beautiful. While it does run parallel in the same world in Kill Me and Kiss Me, it can be read as a standalone. At the age of thirteen, Anna was sold as a slave. Just like her sister was three years prior. She's been sold multiple times and has had some very sick and twisted owners over the years. While she may use drugs to get through all of the horrific things that happens to her and she may seem pliant, there's still a bit of fight in her. She just hasn't shown it yet. That is until Rafael comes into her life. Rafael is the boss of the Juarez cartel. He runs the city and shows no sign of weakness. When Nero,  an Italian mafia boss calls in for a favor, Rafael finds himself on a quest to locate Anna. He has no idea what Nero wants with her and quite frankly doesn't care. He just wants to settle his debt and move on. But there's something about Anna that speaks to him. He gravitates towards her and he finds himself conflicted on what he wants and what he should do. "She's this perfect balance of pure innocence and the most deprived darkness, drawing me in. I want to both cure her of the taint on her soul and corrupt it." Only Rafael sees just how broken and strong Anna is. Which in turn is why Anna feels so safe with him. He's dark and dangerous and continues to show Anna the way of his world but no matter what, he makes her feel safe. Eventually he has to hand her over to Nero, right? So this dark dance they are doing needs to stop. "So broken, so strong. She's like a shattered mirror, cracks rippling over a distorted reflection. Her pieces are so desperately fragile, and yet unbreakable." Hate Me has a bit different tone than the Kiss of Death Series. Yes, we have a cartel with drugs, violence and the story of Anna being sold as a slave. What makes this one a bit different is that this one focuses more on the mental relationship between Anna and Rafael. In their own ways, they are healing each other. Both have their own set of issues and will never be full healed but the other makes it better. The only thing that held me back a bit and the reason why this wasn't a five star read was because the slow burn between Anna and Rafael was so slow for me that it took me a really long time to connect to them. Sure, I liked them but I wanted to feel their emotions with them and I didn't start doing that until closer to the end. Hate Me leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. I think that slow burn I talked about is going to be explosive in the next one. If you are looking for a raw and gritty cartel book that is heartbreaking but has the potential to be healing, then you should pick up Hate Me now! *ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review*

I am impressed with this book. It was dark and gritty and told of horrific things without ever crossing a line into something gratuitous. I was completely wrapped up in Anna and Raphael and their precarious relationship, they were both so interesting alone, and together their dynamic was completely engrossing.Hate Me is the first book in LP Lovell’s Collateral series. This series is a spinoff of her Kiss of Death series, though you do not have to read that series before this book. Honestly, I didn’t know this book had ties to anything else until I read a review outlining the connection. I did find this book interesting enough that I would love to go and read that series when I’m done with this one. Hate Me is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Anna & Raphael.Hate Me is a glimpse behind the filthy curtain of drug cartels. It oozed violence and hatred. It was rife with the ugliest side of the law. It never shied away from exposing readers to the worst parts of humanity. Each moment of violence walked a fine line between being grotesque and cathartic. I found myself questioning my own moral compass in some moments, as I never questioned the necessity of the punishments bestowed on the offenders.Anna was tragic. Her history. Her present. Her reality. Raphael was terrifying. His life. His world. His influence. Together they balanced each other extremes. She should have been too broken for him. He should have been too callous for her. She needed someone to push her beyond what she’d come to expect from men. He needed someone to see him as more than a stone-cold cartel boss. The push and pull they had was exactly what they both needed and allowed them to build a relationship built on more than attraction and chemistry. The only wish I have for this book, and it’s really not even fair to ask for it until I read the next book, would be to get more of Raphael’s backstory. We have the broad strokes, but I have a feeling there is so much more to the man than we’ve even begun to see.LP Lovell is a new to me author. If this book is indicative of her writing style and story building, I am sold. There was a rawness to her writing that felt perfect for the characters and the world they lived in. I will definitely be reading the subsequent novels in this series and checking out her backlist when I have the time.

He surprised me more often than i can count since he's looking out for this girl that claims to be nothing more than what she's been trained to be. It seems that very few know who she really is and LP Lovell really knows how to draw out her book so that from start to finish, you feel the need to keep reading This was an interesting and captivating first instalment to this author's newest series and i look forward to finding out more about this family and what'll happen to Anna and Rafael in the future. *ARC provided by Author in exchange for an honest review. When he's asked to locate Anna he doesn't question the man who asked the favor and with that he expects to settle his debt, but one look at her and... Anna is a slave. She is used to be a possession and to do what she's asked to do. Since the moment that she was separated from her sister she had endured so much pain and was trained to become a sex slave. When she's taken by Rafael... I knew it. I just knew it was going to be a read from another world... The plot is intense, intriguing, super engaging and fill of darkness. Jesus what a book. The interaction between the characters is tumultuous, raw, forbidden and wild. I can't describe it without spoiling. I loved and hated it at the same time. I really need to read Kiss of Death series because I want some background. I want some answers. And seriously L. P... You needed to end this book like this? How will I survive the waiting...... I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

My love for mafia/dark romance is reinforced with masterpieces such as this, and LP Lovell has been one of my go-to read when it comes to delivering a ruthless, gritty and raw story. Her writing was hypnotic enough to keep your attention from the start till the end, and in Hate Me, the center of attention was focused on the modern tale of forbidden romance between a cartel's boss, Rafael, and a rescued slave, Anna. Raised in an orphanage and sold into slavery at the age of thirteen, Anna survived the cycle of rape & torture for nine years the only way she knew how - by being emotionally detached and unfeeling. But when she was bought as a collateral to Nero, another cartel boss, she never once expected that it will be her ticket to freedom, nor would she expect to cross path with a man that would be dangerous to her heart. But was her freedom just a false pretense just to escape another prison and ended up in another gilded cage? Or is it the one thing she has always yearned for all her life- hope ? I couldn't even begin to express how much this story has gutted me (not only because I have to wait agonizingly for the sequel), but also of how brutally painful Anna's past was. Call me a sadist, but it was how the author unabashedly described every vivid detail of the pain that enthralled me. I love reading about a character's strength, especially one as fiery as Anna's, whose spirit refused to be dampened by life and only burns brighter in a dire situation, despite how subtle it appeared to be to everyone else. I loved how the baddest man among the bad, was able to reach out to another soul and love it in his own twisted way. It was the most beautiful kind. I need more.I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book generously provided by Social Butterfly PR and the author. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!

He runs his empire with an iron fist and plays by his own rules. When a debt needs repaying, Rafe has little choice but to agree. I adored Rafael. Yes he’s a bad man who does bad things but he has a surprisingly sweet and caring side when he lets it out. It’s the little things he does that show you the real man behind the gangster and I loved every single bit of him. This book has a little of everything. It’s a little darker than your typical romance, Anna’s past is absolutely heartbreaking but it’s her inner strength that amazed me. She’s very easy to like and I couldn’t help but want her to make a new life for herself. With Rafes help Anna starts to learn more about herself and her past and has some tough decisions to make. I loved this book, I’m already dying for the next book to find out what’s going to happen to Anna and Rafe next.

He is dangerous and will kill when he needs to but he also shows a side to Anna that is loving and caring. My only complaint is that this story is what was happening along with Kiss Me and by the end it hadn't caught up yet. With that said I loved this book and can't wait for book 2.

I really enjoyed this dark, intense and crazy book. It’s just seeps under your skin, making you want more!I love a well written mafia romance. Though this isn’t really a romance per say. Anna has had a rough go of life. At 22, she’s been through worse then most adults twice her age. From being an orphan to being sold to the cartel. She has truly lost hope for anything good. When she finally has a chance to live as close to a normal life as someone from her past could, would she actually do it? C I really enjoyed this dark, intense and crazy book. Drawn in, engrossed in the story, hooked and now dying for book 2!!At a very young age Anna was orphaned and sent to live in an orphanage. At age 13 the orphanage sold her on as a sex slave. Years later she doesn't even know how old she is she just lives day to day trying to survive the nightmare of her life. She's once again on the verge of being sold off to a new buyer but an opportunity to escape comes to light and Anna takes it. She's not out long before she's captured by some backstreet people who want to use her as their sex slave. Much to her surprise she's rescued by an unlikely source but what is to happen to her now? Rafael runs the Juarez Cartel. He's cold and calculated and everyone knows to not cross him. He receives a call from an associate asking for a favor. He agrees to the favor and comes into the possession of a woman. Anna. He's to keep her safe with him until his associate needs her for collateral. It doesn't start off well and only gets worse. There's something about Anna that reminds him of his past. His rules start to go out the window and he doesn't know what to do with her.Anna's only instinct is survival. Can she she survive long enough to finally gain her freedom? What does her new owner want? Now, if you've read the Kiss of Death Series you will know of both of these characters. I can say though that you do not need to have read those to read this. They run on the exact same timeline. This is going to be a 2 book series and in book one we get lots about Anna's past. She's so broken how the poor girl even continues to breathe is beyond me. She absolutely broke my heart. But what i love about LP Lovell is that although the character should be a shell of a woman after everything she's lived through she most certainly is not! There's never a meek broken girl in LP's books you can always find a strength. A quality in the character that tells you they're not going to lie down and take shit! There's gonna be a spark, maybe a little smolder and as the story goes on they get stronger and stronger. Ain't no LP Lovell female character that needs a man! Nope! Anna is no exception. She has a dignity about her that makes you proud of her. There's a defiance there that comes to the surface with every page turned. She's someone you will be rooting for to finally take her life back! Rafael (Rafe) is an absolute beast that will have you begging for him to be unleashed. He's so controlled and shut off at first so to see him slowly unfold as the story goes on is brilliant. Anna gets stronger for him and he gets weaker for her. I loved it! It was like balancing scales tipping in Anna's favor. Rafe is a complicated man that very few are close to but he starts to show himself to Anna and she starts to let him in. I mean i can't really blame her who doesn't love an evil, cold, tattoo'd, beefcake Cartel boss? I know i absolutely do!! Which is why i loved him. He can also be kinda sweet?!?! Little spoiler Anna is scared of needles so he holds her down for her own good. I mean that's sweet right?!?! she needed meds!!! lol Some of the building sexual tension had me clenching my thighs with anticipation! Those lips, those eyes, that body! phewwwww Book 2 now pleeeaaseeee!!!!!!The writing flows so well it's almost poetic. All the words draw you in until you can't put the book down, and at that point you will probably scream at your reading device and curse the name LP Lovell like a sailor in a bar! I NEED BOOK 2!!!!The storyline is sometimes hard to read. Anna's circumstances are horrendous but it doesn't focus on that but rather Anna's fight for freedom and Rafe's fight against his past. There's plenty of action and suspense from start to finish to make you hold on tight! Did i mention i need book 2 now!!! Yes there is a cliffy but you'll enjoy it i'm sure... maybe... ok so no one 100% loves a cliffy but it makes you crave the next book! Like me!Sky high recommendation from me! I'm off to smoke one of Rafe's cigars and wait for book 2! Bring it on Lovell, bring it on! I have a feeling book 2 is gonna be a massive explosion of awesomeness! 5 fighting stars!

“Didn’t anybody ever tell you? You can’t see the stars without the dark.”Can be read on it’s own although I recommend reading the kiss of death duet to fully appreciate the characters, plot and world this is set within. Anna is a Russian orphan sold into the sex trade at 13 and is currently numb to her existence as an object for men’s desires in a Mexican cartel brothel. She is nothing and no one and has been conditioned to be nothing more than a means to end for those that desire to use her body and yet when a flicker of hope ignites her spirit flames from the ashes and she seizes the opportunity to run. Collateral in something bigger than she can even imagine Anna finds herself ward of Rafael, a cartel boss that is fabled to be merciless. Thrust into the unknown Anna is unsure what her fate will be, drowning in uncertainty will her conditioning or her nature win as they battle for supremacy in her brave new world?Rafael owes Neto a favour and he calls it in in the form of Anna. Tasked with keeping her safe and unharmed for an unknown amount of time Rafael is aware she is much more than she seems. Regardless of her secrets he sees something underneath the veneer of detachment she cultivates and unbeknownst to her she reopens old wounds and stops them from scabbing over. He knows she’s a danger to him and his position and yet he is drawn to her, unable to resist the urge to help complete her transformation. By embracing the darkness within Raphael holds a position of power and he slowly begins to help Anna on her road to acceptance and recovery by empowering her in small steps. She’s in danger and is wanted by rivals yet Raphael invests his time in ensuring she feels comfortable in her own skin and feels in control. They feed and satisfy each other’s demons in ways they could not have imagined but when the truth is revealed of who she really is will their bond be strong enough to survive the approaching storm? This was a fantastic addition to the duets series and I loved seeing the mutual attraction and respect grow between Anna and Raphael. His belief in her was enormous and he recognised her spark to be something worth breathing new life into to create a stronger more powerful version of herself. At times he was arrogant and off hand but he’s the boss and the unexpected is slowly rewriting his story too! Two damaged souls created by circumstances beyond their control have little choice of being a survivor or become a victim and their journey is a slow burn of need, desire and awakening. It’s well written with a steady pace and purpose, building the tension and suspense until it all makes sense and the ending.. I can’t wait to find out how their love story ends. A blaze of glory or a barrage of bullets and the kiss of death? A darkly wicked slow burn five star read. ~*~ Reviewed on behalf of Obsessed by Books ~*~

LP Lovell is a go-to author of mine. Her dark twisted mind feeds my soul when comes to mafia and cartel books. If you have not read the Kiss of Death Series by LP Lovell, you really should. You need to know who is coming after Anna Vasiliev. Una is my favorite female assassin ever!! She is a badass who has been broken just like our little bird here only she is matched with her perfect mate Nero Verdi. Una will take no prisoners when she finds out what has happened to her sister.Poor Anna was sold when she was 13 and has been through hell over and over again. She has been broken and beaten over and over to the point she did not think she would survive but she did. She has taught herself not to feel. Not to show emotion. The only issue is the new person she is thrown into the mix with brings out everything she has taught herself to shut down. Rafael D'Cruze runs the Juarez cartel. He has no dealings with slavery. That is one thing he does not get his hand dirty with. But he owes a friend a huge favor and is now stuck with one until he can transport her to Nero Verdi. Now this beautiful little bird Anna is stirring up feeling he did not think a man like him could feel. This is a fast past read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Every time you think Anna and Rafael are in the clear something else major happens and your heart will be thrown in your chest. One thing I loved about this book is that LP did not throw these two in bed. They have strong feelings for one another and there is a bond that will never be broken. We get to see these two truly love one another without the sex from the get-go. They see the other for who they are not what want others to perceive them as."I need this; your trust, the way you look at me as though I'm your savior, even when you know I'm really the monster." I need the next book in this series now! I need more of Anna and Rafael. They were just finding themselves. But I know Una is coming and I have missed the Kiss of Death and I cannot wait to see her reaction to someone protecting her sister. And what she will do to the men who have harmed her.

I just don’t understand how after being sold at the impressionable age of 13 she can still be as strong as she is. It doesn’t matter that she uses drugs to get by… honestly, after some of the sick and twisted things she’s lived through I can’t fathom that she still has some fight in her. Rafael is after paying off an owed debt. However, meeting Anna changes something in his cold and dark heart!Hate Me was a super strong story. It really was a super slow burn, which was perfect for Anna’s character. It showed a ton of respect for Anna from Rafael and I love that! I wasn’t digging Rafael one way or the other but this just put him way over the top for me! LP Lovell writes about this “world” perfectly. It’s the same world as the Kill Me and Kiss Me books. The writing was just what I expect from Lovell. I know it seems picky that I’m giving it a 4 star rating but there just wasn’t anything hugely special. It was good but no huge ommph, for me anyway.
