Hard Crush (Back to You, #1)
HARD CRUSH is a sizzling standalone romance from USA TODAY Bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly.A jaded billionaire. The girl who got away.A second chance has never been so sexy.ABBYTechnology has it out for me. And I’m not talking about my ever-ailing phone or the temperamental Smart Board in my classroom. I’m talking about the internationally hailed “Tech Genius” formerly known as the boy I used to love. It was bad enough seeing that cocky smile staring back at me from my newsfeeds, the gossip sites, and—fine—the scorchingly hot men’s fitness magazine I bought in a moment of weakness. But now he’s back home, teasing me with the memories I’ve tried to leave behind, crowding into my space and taunting me with the kiss I can’t resist. I know it’s only a matter of time before I lose him again. He’s already told me he isn’t staying, warned me he’s changed. I know better than to let him get too close, so why can’t I push him away?HANKThey call me a visionary. An innovator. Hell, last week a headline touted me as the billion-dollar geek keeping Silicon Valley’s panties wet. Try living that down. Strip away the media BS, and I’m just a tech-minded guy with my eyes on the future and no time for a past I can't change. So what am I doing following the sweet sound of its laugh back to the woman who passed on our chance at forever?I tell myself all I want is to say hello. To see her smile. Just a few minutes to pretend we’re still the “us” I thought would never end. But once I've had a taste of the too tempting woman she's become, a few minutes isn’t enough. The man I am today is used to getting what he wants, and I want her.The problem? She wants the guy I used to be.Ten years later, all that’s changed is… everything.

The pace was perfect. It was a fairly quick read and the story while a little on the predictable side was nonetheless engaging and kept me turning the pages. Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet ending.~HERO~HANK...I don't have anything bad to say about him. He was a sexy geek with glasses. He was a sweet guy. He appeared to be a bit of a manwhore in the ten years this couple was apart (shocking I know - roll eyes). I struggled a little with his not bothering to look up the heroine the ten years apart but then proclaiming he always loved her. But you know, it was what it was. Like I said, he was a decent hero.~HEROINE~ABBY...I liked her slightly less than Hank. I don't like heroines that make decisions for the hero thinking they are doing the best for HIM. That said, I understood her reasoning and how her past affected her present. Plus, it wasn't like Hank fought very hard. Her waffling back and forth annoyed me a bit. But she also put herself out there a couple times, so I couldn't hate her too much. I do wish authors would stop with the whole "heroine moved on but only had mediocre sex and bad dates while pining for the hero. While our hero goes on to f-ck everything that walks including supermodels. (Again I was shocked <-- sarcasm). ~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~There was a good cast of secondary characters in this one. None play HUGE rolls, but all of them added to the story. I was intrigued by a couple friends of Hank's and by Wilson (Abby's friend and co-worker). I loved Helen as well. ~HEAT LEVEL~Medium. There was some nice heat to this one and the frequency of the sex scenes felt organic to the story. This couple also had some good on page chemistry.~ANGST LEVEL~Low. I didn't find this particularly angsty. There was a lot of pushing away by the heroine and Hank's job caused some issues. There was a tiny bit of OW drama. Hank goes on a date with an OW, but nothing happens. There was also a tiny bit of OM drama in the form of a co-worker of Abby's. Neither bothered me overly much.~IN THE END~I liked it. Did it blow me away? No. There was nothing new with this story that I haven't read a million times in other books. But it was a sweet well written story with minimal angst. It had (fairly) likable main characters. A good cast of interesting secondary characters and it left me with a smile on my face. Therefore yours truly is giving this one a solid thumb and a half up.

Stars!Mira Lyn Kelly begins her new Back to You series in stellar style with Hard Crush, and second-chance-love never read so good!"We aren’t the same people we were ten years ago…"It’s been far too long since I read anything from this author, but having read and loved every book in her previous Dare to Love series, it was a no brainer when I was given the opportunity to read Abby and Hanks’ second chance reconnection. This isn’t the shy boy who was mine… He’s the confident man the whole world wants a piece of. Ten years without any contact is a long time to pass between people who were once so close to each other, and there have been more than few changes for both of them and not just in the looks department. Both now successful in their own rights, a (not so) chance meeting at their old school brings all the emotions and attraction crashing back to the surface for Abby and Hank. I’m the guy who leaves… and she’s the girl who won’t wait. The problem is that although a decade has passed and everything between them on an emotional and physical level fires up pretty quickly, the fact that Hank’s work will take him away still remains, something which Abby is not prepared to deal with, this ended their relationship as teens, and puts a stop to Abby allowing their relationship to develop as twenty somethings, even though the chemistry between them is scorching, and the sexy-times Kindle-meltingly hot. She’s been haunting the shadows of my mind the whole time… I loved Hank, and I mean total out-and-out adoration from this reader, he went from sweet to funny, to attentive, then dirty and for the whole time was just completely delectable, he knew that from their reconnection he didn’t want to let Abby drift out of his life again, and he did everything in his power to ensure that she didn’t. "Thinking about you is the best part of my day…"This is one of those books you pick up and read with a smile on your face pretty much the whole time you are involved with the couples story, the secondary characters added real value as well, so much so I cannot wait for June when Dirty Player; Greg’s book is due for release. The banter between him and Hank in this one made him intriguing to this reader, and I have a feeling I am going to fall in love with him as much as I have done with Hank when I get my hands on his story.ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange.

Oh my goodness! This was the first book I have ever read by Mira Lyn Kelly, but I can guarantee you it will not be the last. Hard Crush blew me away! It's been ten years since our heroine, Abby, walked away from the love of her life so that all of his dreams could come true. I freaking ADORED Abby! I can't explain in enough words how highly I thought of her having given up her shot at happily-ever-after with her soul mate so the world could share in his brilliance. Abby is kind, sweet, and determined to live her life on her owns terms and most of all, she craves the family she never had as a child. She is so inspiring and amazing in her own right and she has the perfect blend of sense of humor mixed with compassion and understanding. As for Hank, he is just as perfect as Abby but with a special brand of sexiness only he can pull off. He knows how he has always felt about Abby and once he sees her again after a 10 year absence, he knows that she was the one thing in his life that made him feel complete. Hank is so hot, every single time he opened his mouth, I about fainted. I adore a nerdy but alpha man and Hank fits this description to a "T". I love how he pursued Abby, not like a wrecking ball demolishing a building, but with a subtle grace that eventually swept her off her feet. The path to happily-ever-after was not easy. Nope, it was honestly gut-wrenching but every second I read, was a cherished second. The chemistry was like nothing I have ever imagined but the sheer emotion between Abby and Hank was what really put this book over the top. Let's not forget the sex scenes. They were decadent and erotic. Make sure you keep water and a fan nearby, because that's about the only thing that will cool you down. Overall, from start to finish, this book was sublime with no flaws, very little angst, wonderful secondary characters and a love that was so beautiful, everything else pales in comparison. My advice is to run, walk, skip, fly....whatever your mode of transportation, use it and buy this book. I for one will be getting my copy in print because it's one of the best I have ever read and has earned it's spot in my library right along with my other favorites. I can hardly wait to see what Ms. Kelly has in store for us next but I know I will definitely be looking for previous books written by her. 5 stars (but I'm giving it an extra 5 because it's my blog and I can)!

And in the end all of that made for a really good story. The ending was perfect and everything that came before made that final chapter worth it.

She still has feelings for him she just can’t get used to his all new popularity. Hank doesn’t care and goes above and beyond to try and get her back. The things he did made me smile; some worked and some were questionable, lol. Abby was impressed but still was a little hesitant.Abby tried pushing him away because she had things that she was trying to resolve. Hank didn’t want to but did what he needed to try and get her back. My heart broke for Abby with the things she suffered. She finally came to her senses and went after what she wanted and Hank was there waiting. The epilogue I enjoyed and I can’t wait to read more on these two.

I’m thinking I’d be a lot worse off than I am now, but some of you might have had some better boyfriends than me. Still, that’s the appeal of second chance romances, no? A chance to do it over. Hard Crush by Mira Lyn Kelly is light-hearted, positively adorable, and full of some cute romance that will make you wish you had a high school romance like Abby and Hank.Reading Hard Crush was like taking a nice long bath after a hard day of work. You just sort of sink into it and lose track of time, only snapping out of it when you’re a big prune and the water’s cold (or in my case, when the baby you’re watching wakes up). It was a nice change of pace from the romantic suspense and erotica I’ve been reading lately—those novels can get so freaking stressful. There was plenty of drama between indecisive Abby and lovesick Hank, but it wasn’t the sort that’ll make you sweat and grind your teeth. Just your typical relationship conflict between two people who go back and forth more times than a ping pong ball in the Olympic matches.Abby was a very likeable character. She was pleasantly naïve, cute as a button, and god-awful with technology, but she was also so incredibly frustrating. For instance, it is positively beyond me to imagine a world where a gorgeous, billionaire hunk is desperate to make me his and I say no. My imagination just isn’t that good. I mentally screamed at her time and time again to give up her dreams of small-town life and follow Hank wherever he wanted to go, but she wasn’t having it. Eventually the author leads us to a greater understanding of Abby’s past and then I felt guilty about yelling at her so much.Hank is a dream. He’s sexy, he’s smart, he looks amazing in thick-rimmed glasses, and he’s desperately in love with his high school sweetheart. Can you hear me drooling from here? Sigh. I have an absolute weak spot for men in glasses, but my husband has perfect 20/20 (he likes to brag a lot since I have shit eyesight). It’s fun to read about standoffish men with commitment issues, sure, but it’s an absolute delight to mix it up once in a while and read about a man who loves his woman so much he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her his… again. Makes your belly ache and your heart clench, especially since Hank is just so freaking sweet.Hard Crush is good for those readers who don’t want to sweat from anxiety during their romance reads but still want that tiny bite of excitement that comes from conflict. Witty banter, cute kisses, and a warm loving feeling are the main things you’ll get from this book.

They never spoke again, never saw each other, or called or texted. It was just a total caught off.Ten years later, now with a high tech company of his own, this super hot geek billionaire is back in his hometown to visit his old school where he has donated a much needed science wing. But, during a walk through the school he hears a laugh from his past. His very intimate past.Abby wasn’t expecting to ever see Hank again after letting him go to pursue his life goals, leaving her behind in Chicago. She certainly wasn’t expecting to find him standing outside her classroom door with a smug grin on his face. And she has one male colleague that she’s friend’s with. The attraction they held for each other hadn’t died in the intervening years and once Abby succumbed to Hank’s charm, things got hot and heavy. Until Hank’s job called him away from Chicago and once again, Abby was ready to bail on their relationship. Can Hank make her see things are different now or will Abby’s past scar their present and future once again.

Told from alternating first person point of view I was unsure how things would go because it's also written in the present tense and this can be hard to do. But once I got into the swing of things I barely even noticed it because Kelly does such a great job of keeping you in the moment and moving quickly through the story. At the core of this book it's all about the romance and relationship between Hank and Abby. I really enjoyed watching them fall in love and find what they've been missing for the past 10 years. Though they had both moved on from their high school romance, once they were around each other again they realized they've never really found that ultimate happiness. But they're not the same people they once were and this presents new challenges.Hank was absolutely wonderful as a hero and I loved his super smart techie self. One of the small bits of characterization that I love in romance is characters that wear glasses; I'm surrounded by people with glasses, yet you hardly ever see it in romance novels. I was very happy that Hank wears glasses and I even loved the attention to detail in how many times Hank pushed them back up his nose. Other than his looks Hank was also charming, sweet, and just the right amount of cocky in his pursuit to win Abby back. I liked that he refused to give up on their second chance and with the exception of a few missteps, he seems to really understand what Abby was looking for.I also enjoyed Abby and how fun and easygoing she was as a character I'm glad that even though she stayed behind when Hank left she didn't spend 10 years pining for him and never living the life she wanted. Abby is clearly an emotionally strong woman who isn't afraid to make hard decisions, accept them, and move on. There was only one thing that bothered me about Abby and it had to do with the way she viewed their relationship. Throughout the entire book Abby talks about how Hank is always leaving and she can't stand waiting around for him. But to me it's actually not that Hank is leaving but then Abby is the one always pushing him away. She's the one that breaks up with him senior year, she insists he never contact her, she won't go out on a date with him when he comes back, she won't compromise, she's the one keeping things casual when it's clear to everyone Hank is trying to win her back for good, and she pushes him away again when his job will relocate him. There was a small acknowledgement of Abby's mistakes right at the very end of the book but other than that all of the problems are (unfairly) placed on Hanks shoulders.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by the author. All thoughts expressed in this review are my honest opinion.Find this and more on my blog:Happily Ever After Book Nerd

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*I was excited to read and review my first ARC, but I'll be honest. I started this kinda apprehensive because I'm not really a fan of the billionaire trope & second-chance tropes are hit or miss with me. However, I am a fan of hot geeks like Hank (speaking of which, um, why isn't the cover model wearing Hank's glasses?!) Glad to say, the billionaire angle is pretty toned down, imo.Anyways, this was a feelsy, easy read that I mainly enjoyed. *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*I was excited to read and review my first ARC, but I'll be honest. There were the typical 2nd chance romance hang-ups that explained the 10 year distance between Hank and Abby, moreso her fault than his. I felt the author did a good job explaining just why Abby behaved how she did, both in their initial breakup and her resistance to Hank on their reunion. Still made me want to smack her upside the head a few times, lol. Hank was so sweet, understanding, and ready to go all the way to make sure they'd have a future this time around. He was perfect without seeming like a cardboard cutout. Abby really had no chance holding back sighThe sex scenes were pretty decently steamy, though the part that really got me was when (view spoiler)[they first had phone sex. Whew! I don't know why, but that was hotter than the real life scenes to me, and I've never really found phone sex scenes all that titillating. (hide spoiler)]I was overall satisfied with the story, even with Abby's issues from the past to overcome, and the conclusion, though the epilogue was a bit too saccharine for me. I'm interested in reading Greg's (Hank's friend) story up next.

Cute and SafeNothing like a little long lost romance to sink your teeth into and that is exactly what Mira Lyn Kelly gives her readers with Hard Crush. Granted they are young, but she still knows he can go out and do so much with himself and she's happy with her home life as it is.Hank has made a huge something of himself over the years and even with all the success, there is still a piece missing...Abby. She's the one that let him get away and after seeing her teaching at thier old high school, Hank realizes all of the feelings he had for her are still there. The back and forth between these two, while not super angsty, was still very entertaining. Hank was putting it out there and for reasons she isn't explaining right away, Abby isn't taking the bait. I liked that she was making this billionaire finally work for a woman, instead of falling at his feet like he is use to.The book is well written and gets pretty steamy. At one point I wondered if these two were going to work thier stuff out or just keep hopping in the sack! The story is predictable, but fun. I enjoyed meeting Abby and Hank.Reviewed for Renee Entress's Blog.

Hard Crush is a great second chance romance.Hank Wagner and Abby Mitchel, agreed to part ways after high school when opportunities put Hank on a path where he could make the most of his technical genius. Abby chose to stay closer to home and is happy with her job and life in the town she calls home. There were no misunderstandings that led to the split. Ten years later, Hank is back in town for their high school reunion. In the interim years he’s scaled professional mountains and is somewhat of a romance book cliché; the tech genius billionaire with a great body who indulges in motorcycles, expensive sports cars and dates supermodels. But, heavens, he makes such a good hero. I loved him. His love, appreciation, attraction and delight in Abby is apparent from the start. He respected Abby’s decisions ten years ago but now he’s back to get the one woman that he has never forgotten about. Abby’s life may not be as exciting but it’s what she needs after a less than stable childhood. Her feelings for Hank have lain dormant but when Hank returns, well, it’s a struggle to contain those feelings. The attraction is sizzling and the sexy times are hot.I was on a high after finishing this book and what more can you ask for at the end of romance book?

It's rare to find a book that's super steamy, adorable, and swoony all at the same time - so when I find one that is, I cherish it. Hard Crush is that book. Not only that, you had to make the hero an ex-geek tech genius? I mean, hit ALL my buttons why don't you?Speaking of which, Hank is such a wonderful main character. Hank wants back what he lost, and he'll move heaven and earth to get it. It's not until he realizes heaven and earth isn't what he needs that he'll find his way into Abby's heart for good. And Abby... oh my gosh. I fell in love with her so quickly. She's nothing like me, so I can't really identify with her, but I can want to be her BFF. Smart, funny, charming, just full of life, I wanted to crawl into the book and be her friend for reals. Abby made the biggest sacrifice of her life in order to make Hank happy, and having him back in her life isn't something she planned on.The two of them together are combustible. From beginning to end, the sparks flew - and I was utterly engrossed by the backstories of each character and their shared history. Then seeing them dance around each other in order to build a new relationship was a treat in itself. Brilliant. I give Hard Crush 4.5 apple for the teacher stars.

I found this story to be a bit of a quick read but there were enough details in the story to make it an engaging read. I would of liked to of seen more of characters being in a relationship together. But this didn’t stop it from being an enjoyable and sweet read.

Hard Crush is a sweet second chance at love story between a high school English teacher and the science geek she broke up with before college. I'll admit that I got more than a little exasperated with her, because she kept it going way longer than it seemed it was justified. She explains why, and everything turns out well in the end (more than well--it's a great ending!) but still, it was frustrating to read at times.Great ending, though--did I mention that? :)Rating: 4 stars / BI voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

4This second chance romance was good, but there was a sense of doom for Abby and Hank from the start. I honestly didn’t know if it was going to be the typical HEA for them. It's been ten years since Hank and Abby went their separate ways, but now he's back in town for a quick visit and determined to see her, even if it's only to say 'Hello'. However, Abby is the one that got away and Hank wants a second chance with her. Will Hank be able to convince Abby to take a chance on him again, or are her past demons too big and enough to keep them apart?I really like the books I've read by this author in the past, and I've got to say that this first book of Ms. Kelly's Back It's been ten years since Hank and Abby went their separate ways, but now he's back in town for a quick visit and determined to see her, even if it's only to say 'Hello'. However, Abby is the one that got away and Hank wants a second chance with her. Will Hank be able to convince Abby to take a chance on him again, or are her past demons too big and enough to keep them apart?I really like the books I've read by this author in the past, and I've got to say that this first book of Ms. Kelly's Back to You series was an entertaining and wonderful read that had me so wrapped up in its dialogue and fast-paced storyline that I found hard to put it down, especially because of the hero. The way this story starts sets the fast-pace of the story and I loved how determined the hero was to win back the heroine, as he's never forgotten her and still loves her. Will the heroine take a chance on Hank, or will she continue to sacrifice her happiness for his dreams? As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the heroine, and I could understand why she feels the need to protect herself. Really, she has huge abandonment issues and Hank being who he is and knowing that he doesn't stay very long in one place isn't easy to deal with. Moreover, both the main characters are relatable, likeable and I loved the obstacles they have to overcome to be together including whether the heroine can put her faith in Hank that he won't leave her and whether she can deal with past demons that bring her abandonment issues to the forefront. While the hero, he's done well for himself and I liked how determined he was to win the heroine back. Certainly, when he wants something he doesn't give up until he gets it, and I liked that he didn't give up on the heroine, even when she gives him every reason to. I also liked everything the hero did to win back the heroine, especially when it comes to using his smarts to help kids. Overall, Ms. Kelly has delivered a wonderful read in this book that starts off this series brilliantly and where the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance delightful and had me loving these two together; and the ending had me sympathizing with the heroine because of the surprise visitor she gets that leaves her emotionally drained, but had me liking how the hero continues to prove that he'll always be there for her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as the hero and heroine have come so far in their relationship and show that family is more than blood. I would recommend Hard Crush by Mira Lyn Kelly, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Amy Andrews, Jaci Burton, Lauren Layne and Erin Nicholas.

It took a while before I really *got* Abby’s hang-up about being left behind. And when that happened, the story clicked for me. How far Hank was willing to go to make her dreams come true was true storybook-romance. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
