Hidden by Rebecca Zanetti is the first book in the new romantic suspense Deep Ops series. Or perhaps this would be another for the more erotic suspense pile as the relationship was jumped right into the steamy before the “romance” is involved.Malcolm West is an ex undercover police officer who out of chance has chosen the wrong neighbor to live peacefully next to. Or perhaps this would be another for the more erotic suspense pile as the relationship was jumped right into the steamy before the “romance” is involved.Malcolm West is an ex undercover police officer who out of chance has chosen the wrong neighbor to live peacefully next to. As soon as Malcolm moves in he notices that Pippa is a bit of a shut in barely leaving her home next door but he never expects to be pulled into a case involving her. When Malcolm is approached that his new neighbor may be involved in a cult that the authorities have been trying to infiltrate he’s a bit skeptical. Torn between his attraction to Pippa and his suspicion Malcolm finds himself undercover yet again hoping to stop the cult from harming innocent people.Hidden was quite a fast paced story on every level, not just the relationship side of things. Although I often wish the characters start on more than just their attraction it actually worked in this story leaving the focus on the suspense side and putting a reader on the edge of their seat waiting to find out what would happen. The situation and characters pulled me right in from the beginning so I’d definitely recommend checking this one out.I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. For more reviews please visit https://carriesbookreviews.com/

I love Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors series so jumped at this start to a new series when I saw it on Netgalley, and it didn't disappoint. There's a bit of insta lust and if I'm honest I struggled a bit with how quickly Pippa trusted and fell for Malcolm, this woman had been on the run for seven years and trusted no-one .... and not even her best friend Tricia had her address. The romance sort of delayed the suspense and action till later in the book but when it happened it hit hard and fast. Zanetti didn't pull any punches with just how whacked in the head Isaac (cult leader) is, he's a revolting, twisted specimen for sure.I'm looking forward to the secondary characters getting their books, and can't wait for Brigid and Raider's book that's next up after reading the excerpt. After being undercover on a assignment for the last 2 years, in which he became friends with his mark who he was then forced to kill, he is having a hard time putting everything behind him and moving on. When he moves in to his new house in a quite neighbourhood he is immediately drawn to the pretty women hiding behind the curtains watching him move in.What neither of these 2 know is that strings are being pulled in order for them to live next door to each other. Malcom is being recruited to join a new task force and he soon learns that his shy neighbour is not all what she seems to be........hidden passports, $20 000 worth of cash, a bug out bag....these do not compute with the women that he is drawn too. Mal will have to go undercover again as he races against time to find out what Pippa is hiding.I enjoyed these 2 characters and of course being introduced to the rest of the Requisition Force who we will get to see more of as the series unfolds.......Oh did I mention the hilarious high heel wearing, bourbon drinking, lipstick eating dog? Another great read from the queen of mystery and suspense and I cannot wait till the next book in the series!!!!

She has been on the run with fake IDs for years trying to escape the cult. Malcolm is an ex-cop who worked undercover. He is still scarred by having to betray the people he spent so much time with. He is recruited to work with Requistion Force. They are a group that is connected to the government, but not really a part of it. Malcolm's boss, Angus, sets Malcolm up in the house next to Pippa. They have intel that the cult is about to do something violent and they think Pippa has something to do with it.Pippa and Malcolm grow close, but they keep their secrets. He is trying to gain her trust and pump her for information and she is trying to make sure he doesn't find out about her past. There's a good reason for her doing this that we find out near the end. Ms. Zanetti walks a fine line between Mal's betrayal of Pippa's trust and believable romance. As usual, she makes it work. Mal is a very sympathetic character, he's strong and trustworthy despite the situation. Pippa is strong, brave, and determined. Best thing about her - she's not TSTL.

But Pippa Smith is covering up something as well, and their paths collide in a way that’s unexpected and dangerous. Told in a few flashbacks, we learn of Mal’s and Pippa’s personal histories that led them to where they are now; both are tortured in their own ways by memories too scarring for them to forget. First as neighbours, then later as lovers, both clearly battle the same crazies, though from different and opposing angles,. As a grounding book that introduces the rest of the Requisition Force, ‘Hidden’ is a good hook in itself in pulling out the cracked-up, damaged unit that I can’t wait to see more of. Severely defective in their own ways (even the dog’s included in this) though it’s ripe for Zanetti to insert some humour here, there’re sufficient seeds planted here that makes me want each of their stories. The frustration I have nonetheless, with such undercover stories simply lies with the deception that forms (in this case, on both sides) the foundation of a romantic relationship and becomes the major part of the conflict that you know is just coming because of this very thing that gets stretched longer than it should have. The pitfall that typically follows is the use of sex that delays communication and disclosure, or some other event/circumstance that deliberately blocks this—which then forms a large part of the romantic pairing’s misunderstanding, with lots of running involved—along with some TSTL behaviour—because there just isn’t enough trust between the both of them to go around. It’s precisely because of this that I find the love/romantic connection between Mal and Pippa difficult to swallow, especially if trust and respect (apart from the scorching sex) are supposed to be foundational for their relationship. The pace and action do pick up after this though, which eventually made the story a lot more engaging. And even if Mal/Pippa do sort of work out their issues in a rush before the climax happens, I probably would have liked this a lot more if less time had been spent on deceit and the copious amount of sexual tension (and later on, raunchy sex instead of talking) simply taking up the first three-quarters of the plot. *ARC by the publisher via Netgalley

This was my first Rebecca Zanetti book and I loved it. I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did, I expected to enjoy it, I just didn't expect to love it this much. The couple focus is on Malcom and Pippa.Wow! This was good. Zanetti is an amazing writer. this first installment of the Deep Ops is a pip with Mal's struggle with his guilt and his hope that he can make things right for Pippa. Zanetti sets up the series' characters with a decent background on their various strengths and weaknesses. We understand the solid support provided by the team's memebers and gain an introduction to them. I loved hearing Force's musings about the team's psychitrist and Wolfe's thoughts about the cat Kat and I loved reading about the quirky dog Roscoe. And of course the chemistry between our couple was sizzling. It's a group of people you want to cheer on and look forward to further adventures setting things to rights in peoples' lives. This fantastic book kept my heart racing at times, and had me weeping at others. Hidden is an emotional tale about second chances, family, and a person’s capability for change. It's a great story and quick read. It completely sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. Even though there were bits and pieces I knew were going to happen I was surprised by the twists and turns of the plot and didn't expect a lot of them! This book was really great. I highly recommend it.***I received this book for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Ms. Zanetti took her time introducing the characters so that I was able to develop a real interest in each of them. Malcom West, an ex-undercover cop, is one of Angus Force's new recruits; and he's been set up to infiltrate a cult and cultivate a relationship with his new neighbor, Pippa, who was a member of the cult when she was younger. Both Malcom and Pippa are broken from their past lives, so they are flawed and don't trust easily. I liked both of them and I admired Pippa as she has done well in staying off the grid while trying to evade the cult. A tense plot with plenty of suspense, action and even some hilarious moments because of Roscoe. The romance and sexual heat between Mal and Pippa should have melted my Kindle but luckily it survived. This was just too good to put down until I reached the end.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Zebra via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own. I would like to thank the publisher for allowing to read and review the book.

Another great series by Rebecca Zanetti. Malcolm West is an undercover cop who came so close to his own destruction that he buys a house off the beaten path. Hidden is my first book by Rebecca Zanetti but it definitely won’t be my last. It’s not that I’ve been going out of my way to avoid romantic suspense, but lately I just haven’t been in the mood for the drama. Well... this one sold me,. It had a vintage Suzanne Brockmann vibe to it and that is high praise from me!4.5 stars from me! Well developed characters, a strong, suspenseful storyline... looking forward to the next in the series.

I received this book through a giveaway. I was excited to read this, because I love a good action packed story. For me though, I struggled through a majority of the story until it picked up about 70% of the way through. Once the action started I was hooked. If you’re more into the romance side of things than I am, I think you will definitely enjoy this.

I was quickly sucked into story, and now I can't wait to find out more about the band of misfits that have formed a task force operating on the fringes to protect the country!Malcolm West has spent years undercover, and his last assignment took a serious toll on him both mentally and physically. He is just looking for a quiet place off the beaten path to recover but he is dismayed to discover the perfect home he located was not as great a find as he thought when Angus Force comes knocking on his door. Force is putting together a team to discretely investigate threats to national security and he is trying to recruit Mal to help... starting with investigating Mal's shut-in neighbor Pippa who may just be a sleeper agent from a cult who is planning a terrorist attack. Mal quickly sends him packing but the thought that the pretty lady next door may be a danger to society just doesn't sit well with him... score one for Force, and he has a new team member no matter how reluctant he may be. Mal finds himself in the uncomfortable position of being back undercover and fighting his personal feelings in an effort to get the job done for the greater good.Pippa has been on the run for so long that she is becoming borderline agoraphobic in an effort to stay away from cameras and facial recognition software. She managed to escape the crazy that her mom dragged her into years earlier on the day before she turned 18, and she has been trying to stay one step ahead of the obsessed cult leader who believes she is destined to fulfill his visions ever since. Mal scares the life out of her the first time she sees him, but she quickly realizes that he is just another damaged soul trying to survive. Trust doesn't come easily to either one of them, and the secrets they are keeping from each other are always in the background even as the sparks of attraction start flying. Pippa and Mal get hot and heavy pretty quickly but things are complicated to say the least. Mal is a genuinely good guy so he feels guilty about succumbing to his baser instincts but he can't deny that there is something different about this woman. Every time Pippa thinks about sharing her story with Mal something gets in the way. Eventually something's gotta give and it comes in the form of a phone call Pippa has been fearing for years. Anger, frustration and terror combine to propel her to try to end the madness once and for all, and Mal has a decision to make. The two loners suddenly find themselves wanting to keep someone in their life more permanently, but the secrets, lies and threat to Pippa may make that impossible. The author weaves a well plotted tale of intrigue and suspense with plenty of hot and steamy moments thrown in. All the characters introduced are wonderfully flawed with their own set of quirks, even Force's German Shepherd Dog Roscoe who quickly became one of my favorite characters in the story! He is certainly a unique character who stole my heart and had me laughing out loud throughout the story. As for the rest of Mal's new team member, they are all on the fringes of government work for various reasons and I cannot wait to find out more. We have a hacker released from prison to help the team; a straight-laced hottie FBI handler she has been assigned that she just can't seem to take her eyes off of; a profiler who had to get a little too in-depth into the mind of one of the nastiest serial killers in the last century; a spec ops soldier who may just be a little bit certifiable; and a shrink who won't reveal what exactly she did to get herself assigned to the team. This group will definitely provide some interesting stories in the future, and I am waiting patiently to see what happens next!

I found again the flowing and dynamic style by Rebecca Zanetti, an author I appreciate a lot, and a well done action.Hidden features Pippa and Malcolm in a romantic suspense context. We know from the start who is the bad guy to fight and why our heroes are involved.Malcolm is an ex-cop who’s worked under cover for several years. His last long mission convinced him to quit. So it’s for the sake of his tranquility that he buys a house far from everything. His only neighbor is Pippa. Their first meeting is full of fear and tension because Pippa hides heavy secrets, she’s afraid and doesn’t want to see him. But little by little she’s going to open up to him and decides not to hide anymore.Very quickly Malcolm realizes he was tricked by Angus Force. The latter is in the middle of creating a team with Homeland Security’ support. His goal is to gather agents with specific qualifications for infiltration and search missions. He wants to have Malcolm in this team. Malcolm finally accepts and his first mission is to investigate a sect they suspect is preparing a terrorist attack.I really liked the main couple. The hero’s work and the heroine’s secret are necessarily going to collide and we wonder how they will overcome it. What’s more, the undercover work asks for sometimes closed contacts with opposite sex suspects for heterosexual characters and that’s why I’m not fan of this kind of basis. But here the author manages very well. I appreciated the fact the heroine doesn’t let the hero walk all over her but I appreciated the love scenes less. The suspense side is well done and we have all the answers at the end of the book, and we believe in the couple’s HEA.As for the secondary characters, we discover as we go by the members of the team created by Angus Force who is a profiler. Each of them has a secret and/or a hard or even traumatic past of which we don’t know anything in this volume. We only know that Angus is obsessed with looking for a dead serial killer he thinks is still alive, but nothing for the others. There’s Dr. Nari Zhang, a psychologist imposed by the government and who will have to judge the aptitude of the different members to integrate this team, among other things. Let’s say that doesn’t agree with them at all. There’s also Clarence Wolfe, former lieutenant commander, a tough cookie with a soft heart; Brigid Branaghan, incarcerated hacker who should be free after her mission with Angus Force; and finally Raider Tanaka, agent from the government who’s also Brigid’s supervisor. They should all have their story. And lastly there’s also a strange dog, Roscoe, and a cat, Kat. I won’t say who’s the next volume’s couple, I’m just thrilled with what awaits us.To conclude, I recommend this novel and I hope the rest of the series will be up to the first volume and most of all that it will be release quickly.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I have been a Rebecca Zanetti fan for years but none of her past romantic suspense novels really pushed my buttons. I tended to prefer her paranormal series. That being said, I read the teaser chapter for Hidden and knew I needed this book in my life... immediately. Boy was I right.I was on the edge of my seat from page one and Ms. Zanetti kept me panting for more the entire book. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Hidden stars Pippa, a woman in hiding from a violent past and Malcolm, an ex-cop with tons of demons. They're thrown together by outside forces and proximity and are immediately drawn to each other. The chemistry between Pippa and Mal is practically incendiaryThe cult elements both fascinated me and freaked me out a little bit (in a good way). The mystery had me looking for clues on every page and the sexy, sexy romance had me working my hand fan. Hidden is everything I have come to love and expect from a Rebecca Zanetti book with a gritty, real world feel. The only part where I had to suspend my disbelief was the alcoholic, high heel wearing ex police dog. That was a little crazy, but also so hilarious and the perfect comedic relief, I forgive a little bit of zany. While Pippa and Mal are falling in love, working through each other's lies, and confronting their own problems, Ms. Zanetti is building a fantastic new crew of quirky characters each begging for their own book. Zanetti artfully crafts the suspense plot, romantic elements, and new cast into one complete book with a satisfying happily ever after that leaves you wishing the entire series was already written and released. Each character was well developed and I am invested in the entire new team. All I can say is: write faster please!!**I received an ARC of this book in order to provide an honest review**Find/Follow me on Twitter Instagram and my blog !!

Well, I have to think a bit to figure out how I want to review this new series. Let me start by saying that I absolutely LOVE Rebecca Zanetti and there hasn't been a series so far that she has written that I have not liked. This book was odd in the fact that I read a snippet from of the beginning (Chapter 1) at the end of one of her last books, then somehow, I ended up reading that same snippet somewhere else. Then, by the time I actually read the book, I almost stopped reading because I felt like I had already read the book.Anyway, about the book. At the end, I liked it. Will I continue on to book 2 of the series? Absolutely. Did it amaze me.....? Not really. And the problem is that I cannot put my finger on what the problem was. Or, if there really was a problem. I mean I gave it 4 stars, and I do NOT give 4 stars unless I really like the book - so I guess that should be it. The only reason I think that I'm a bit stumped is because of the fact that I REALLY like Zanetti and her books usually knock my socks off - not usually just feeling okay. We are told at the beginning that the MC is a scared shut in, almost afraid of her shadow. Then, by the next day, she's running out in the rain to "help" this new, very large neighbor in the middle of a PTSD attack. Then, she sleeps with this unknown, scary neighbor and after that, we don't really deal with a scared timid shut in anymore. The lack of continuity kind of took me out of the story. Other than that, I enjoyed the new "gang" and love the fact that they are a bunch of misfits. I think each new book in the series will be about each of them, the uptight HDD Special Agent, the crazy Special Ops guy, and the FBI profiler with the shrink. Oh, and the dog!! I absolutely love the Jack Daniels drinking, high heel wearing dog with all of his "quirks"! Hilarious!!The first book in any series usually has to do a bit more to take care of the world building and the foundation is laid. I look forward to continuing on and seeing if this can become another Zanetti series that I adore.Oh, and this is actually the first time that I can say that this book was provided to me by Net Galley for me to review. Huh...always used to see that, now I'm part of the cool crowd!

This is the first book in the new Deep Ops series. If you love Rebecca Zanetti's books then I will tell you this one will definitely NOT disappoint you! What he doesn't know is that he has been set up to buy what he thought was his dream house. And he certainly never thought he would be attracted to the woman who watches him through her windows. But once he realizes that she is hiding something, he signs up to go undercover again. But this time, she is the target because they believe she is a part of something much bigger just waiting to happen. And although Pippa is drawn to Malcolm more than anyone she has ever met, she has to decide whether she can trust him. Or if he is a part of the things that she is running from.I loved this book!! From the beginning I was sucked in and wanted to know more. Pippa is a woman who makes you wonder what exactly happened in her past to make her the way she is now. And when you find out? It's horrifying and makes you want to beat on some people! Malcolm makes you feel all the feels for him and everything he has done as a police officer to take down the bad guys. Including what happened on the previous assignment. Putting them together while they get to know each other and just spend time together, you understand why they are pulled towards each other. They have both been through hell and come out the other side. They may not be whole but they are working through everything to at least survive and try to be happy. And then you throw in the side characters? They are just as awesome as the main characters! There are parts that will make you laugh (a lot), make you sad, and just make you wonder how people can be the way they are. I loved it all! I can't wait for the next one!
