If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big (pixelated) surprise…The bears have invaded. Hopped up on magic bacon, with the backing of Big Toilet, they’re an unstoppable force of furious furriness – not even the army is a match for them! Only one man is naked enough to take them down, if he’ll come out of retirement for one last job: Shirtless Bear-Fighter!This comic could’ve gone either way. It might’ve been way too crazy or not crazy enough but it turned to be juuuuust right! (Yup, If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big (pixelated) surprise…The bears have invaded. It might’ve been way too crazy or not crazy enough but it turned to be juuuuust right! (Yup, that was a Goldilocks and the Three Bears pun – I’ll try to keep the bear puns in this review to the BEAR minimum but – ahhh! See!? I can’t help myself!)Shirtless Bear-Fighter is a deliriously zany, over-the-top comedy about a naked mountain man who saves the world from bears. It’s utterly ridiculous but so very enjoyable as it’s crammed full of knowing action movie clichés and doesn’t even attempt to make sense most of the time. Its off-the-wall humour made me genuinely laugh many times too like the cop who’s always talking about his time in the military, either when he and Shirtless were in ‘Nam, WW2 or the Civil War, the bears’ message to Shirtless which was just a piece of paper with gibberish written on it, or the bear fighting montage where Shirtless takes on the Chicago Bears football team and a bunch of hairy gay dudes in San Francisco. And I love that his Kryptonite is clothes!Nil Vendrell’s art strikes the perfect balance for the tone – it’s cartoony enough for the comedy but not overly so as to undermine the jacked-up melodrama – and it was an inspired choice to pixel out Shirtless’ many gratuitous full frontal scenes rather than tastefully position him out of shot. You’ll never see a manlier baby than in this book! The story doesn’t totally hang comfortably together at times. I get that it’s a deliberately cheesy aspect of the plot but there were too many rushed flashbacks thrown at me which I found a bit much. Also a couple of characters – the Hillbilly Warlock and Silva, the female cop – were unnecessary additions with Silva’s origin flashback being especially pointless. Generally though writers Jody LeHeup and Sebastian Girner did a spectacular job crafting a highly entertaining and readable action comedy, particularly as they’re usually editing comics rather than writing them. You might need to be in a certain mood to enjoy this book but then I read it tired at the end of a long day and wary of its intentionally wacky jokes and it still won me over so maybe not! Shirtless Bear-Fighter is a great laugh, very colourful and imaginative, bursting with plenty of amusing details, and a ton of fun to read – easily the best new title Image have published this year!

Shirtless Bear-Fighter is too sexy for this shirt...and pants for that matter too. In the vein of Grizzly Shark, this thing is so ridiculously over the top you can't help but laugh. It's one goofy, hairy heap of fun.Received an advance copy from Image in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely loved this one! I remember seeing this in the previews thinking, "Oh my gosh, what is this?", but I tried it and I got say it....its so gooooooooooood! This is a book that is very self aware, but at the same time it just wants to make you laugh. Sure its not Shakespeare in terms of the writing, but hey, you got to be a good writer to come up with a lot of the jokes in this! I myself pretty much had a permanent grin on my face while reading and rolled on the floor laughing quite a few times! It is something you probably have to switch your brain off a bit(I know people hate books and movies like that), but there's a lot of fun to be had with this one, which is why I fully recommend it!

3.5 stars.Cute premise, and one that shockingly doesn't wear out its welcome by the end. ( Don't get me wrong, it's no "Watchmen", but it is some light fluffy entertaiment, and there's nothing wrong with that!)

What is this?! It's so ridiculous, reads as an over-the-top slapstick parody and has some glaring grammatical errors (or is that bear talk?)... but I liked it? Why isn't this a cartoon show on Adult Swim already?

Betrayed by the bears who raised him, Shirtless has vowed to fight ALL bears and protect the forest in this timeless epic adventure. Y'all, I was so excited when I received this book in the mail that I started reading it immediately. The bear punching action started only a few page flips from the cover, in all of Shirtless's naked, pixelated dongle glory. This man does not like to wear pants, he lives in a bear-house, and god help you if call his flapjacks "pancakes". Shirtless has a heartbreaking past akin to every vigilante superhero. It's like Wolverine and Batman had a feral, bearded baby. I love him. Enter FBI agents Burke and Silvia, who come to the forest to ask Shirtless to fight the bearrorists who are attacking the nation. Burke, the senior agent in command, has been in more wars than humanly possible, and he will definitely make you question his age and his sanity when he recounts the battlefields he's fought on. The only one who seems as confused about Burke's 14 American Conflicts is agent Silvia, a young agent keen on playing by the book and following orders until she learns her instincts are more important. There is a malicious force behind the bear attacks, someone who has been feeding them magic bacon to control them, and bend their bear-will to his own. His motives are for shitty revenge against Shirtless, all for the growth of his three-ply TP company. All in all this was a fantastic read. There was always something to make me laugh on pretty much every page. The whole story seems to be parodying big name superheroes while also creating a superhero. It's hilarious and I'm 100% here for more Shirtless adventures. I give this book 5 out of 5 bear-stars.I received this copy in exchange for my honest review
