I don’t read many paranormal romance stories these days, so getting a chance to read an ARC of Wild Thing was a great way to immerse myself into a short, steamy, and suspenseful shifter story that illustrates just how important the idea of finding one’s mate is, especially when that connection doesn’t just solidify a destined bond, but it also helps this linked couple to feel whole and in control of aspects of themselves that make them feel like cursed and evil beings. Luc Agassou and Caitlyn Raine are intriguing characters in their own right; they are both trying to free themselves from self-imposed shackles - ones that were constructed from other people’s prejudices and misgivings. But together, Luc and Cate can combat their inner demons - the ones that constantly degrade them and darken their souls, and while Cate may not truly understand her strong feelings for a man she just met, they seem to be each other’s cure…each other’s protector to stave of the madness and prove to themselves and one another that their unique humanity is exactly what sets them apart from other beings and what helps them to defend the defenseless and find salvation in each other’s arms. I love the paranormal aspects of Wild Thing; Luc and Caitlyn’s backstories and the explanation of their people’s historical connection makes their mating unique as well as intriguing; their roles are not the typical ones of mated beings because what they allow one another to do and feel helps make everything easier and more controllable, which is essential based on the previous events illuminated in the story. Wild Thing is a great paranormal read that embeds a variety of story elements in a short amount of pages, making the text an engaging one because the plot line is paced extremely well and the relationship that builds between Luc and Cate clearly illustrates just how connected they were/are before they even met in person. 4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)

Wild Thing written by J Kenner5 starsI have to admit that this is NOT my go to genre, but when you see J Kenner has a book you haven't read you just 1-click and trust she has another amazing book waiting for you to get lost in. This book had so many elements that I'd look for in a book with some unexpected twist…“And then, drifting on a wind that was surely born of imagination, Cate heard the whispered reply—I know, Caitlyn. I know that you are mine ....”Detective Cate Raine never quite felt like she fit in. She'd spent her whole life stalking demons, the kind on the street and the kind that lived inside her.She was raised to believe horrid things about herself that were repeatedly spoken to her by her mother. It was no surprise she turned down offers to celebrate her thirtieth birthday and opted to spend it alone. That's the day she started to see things differently...“She'd been drawn in, and now the panther was filling her head, overwhelming her senses. She was the panther. Stalking. Caged. Anguished. Wanting. Needing. Needing her.”Luc and his twin were separated when they were adopted. He found a loving family that understood him and knew what he needed to truly make him happy. One day he saw his mate, his curse and knew he would have her. Ironically he spent his nights disrupting the city she tried protecting.

The concept for this book was excellent. I like how J. Kenner explored the paranormal/shape-shifter world without following all of the typical objectives/plot points associated with shape-shifters books, i.e. need to bite human females to turn them so they can to breed, and keep the population from going extinct. I also enjoyed that New Orleans was the backdrop and not some town in/near the mountains. I also enjoyed that New Orleans was the backdrop and not some town in/near the mountains. This is a quick read and it felt a little rushed at times, but I guess sometimes that is inevitable when dealing with a novella. The sexy times are a little limited in this story, but still steamy. There are a few items that seem to steer from the main storyline, but trust me they are there for a reason and it all gets wrapped up. As much as I love the Stark World and all it's subsidiaries, I like that this book had no connection to Stark. This is completely and truly a standalone book. Luc could definitely give Damien a run for his money when it comes to being a little cocky and overbearing. There is one thing I didn't like, and this is just me being picky. The panther's name is Midnight, and while panthers are black, it's too obvious; however, for all I know this could have been a tribute to a family pet (and if it is, then that's a neat way to go about it).

As Cate gives in to her feelings for Luc, she seeks this mysterious killer while Luc fears he can’t control the animal inside. Is there a chance that these two lost souls have found love? Or will their collide forcing them apart? I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Received an ARC for an honest review. For a short read, Kenner really pulled together a story that had it all. It had heart and heat and a touch of suspense. Luc is a were-panther (is that the right phrase?) and Cait is a human cop. She's drawn to him so much so that even when he's in animal form, she visits the zoo just to watch him. If anything, this was too short of a read. I wanted more about Luc and Martin and I definitely wanted more about Alma. Whew! This was a fast read for me, but I was completely immersed in Luc and Cate's lives. I was fascinated by what was happening to Luc and how/why he was so captivated with Cate. I loved the New Orleans vibe that enhanced their story. Their chemistry is off the charts hot and undeniable! They are drawn toward each other and their animal instincts take over. They are a dynamic duo and the feelings between them are intense! I liked that this story was a bit different and something completely new. Whew! Writing a riveting and believable paranormal romance takes talent. I've read stories by others, some good, some not so good. This was one of the better ones. J Kenner has a way with her writing that gets you involved and suspends reality. Luc was sexy but intense and Caitlyn was forced to deal with her vulnerabilities. This was a great short read.
