Blood is Magic: A Vampire Romance by Alix Adale is the first book in the Hearts of Dagon series. In this book we are introduced to a young woman by the name of Rowan. For the past few months she’s been through a lot – ending a horrible marriage, tough divorce, job issues and she has a stalker who terrorizers her at every turn. In this book we are introduced to a young woman by the name of Rowan. For the past few months she’s been through a lot – ending a horrible marriage, tough divorce, job issues and she has a stalker who terrorizers her at every turn. Rowan is a relator and she’s been assigned the infamous murder house. Her sales have been less than stellar (she hasn’t sold a thing for a good while) and this house having the reputation that it has, and must be disclosed, isn’t helping things. Her boss is on her case about her lack of success lately but right now Rowan is more focused on the person who stalks her. It makes her late to the showing of the murder house and the clients don’t stay to have a look around. However, while Rowan is there she hears a noise inside the house and then sees something that terrifies her so much that she ends up accidentally hitting a man with her vehicle in her haste to leave. The man, Colin, brushes it off and offers to help her with her problem but is secretive. But it won’t be long before Rowan learns a few of his secrets and about who and what he is as well as the truth as to who has been harassing her. Blood Magic is an engaging paranormal romance story that I’m sure many will enjoy since it is a clean read. This story focuses on Rowan and Colin. Rowan is a regular human trying to go about her life and just live but with someone stalking her and the police being of no help she’s frustrated and looking into ways to protect herself. Colin is a vampire who offers to help her with her problem since he has a clue as to who is bringing on her bouts of terror. This story flows really well and keeps you engaged throughout it. The characters are very well written and while there are touches of violence here and there it’s nothing so bad that it’s off putting even for the more squeamish of readers. The only thing that I really didn’t like about this story is how indecisive Rowan can be and how she has moments of anger over something trivial. In the beginning Rowan comes off as what she is…a victim and so her stalker uses that against her. When she’s told certain things her reaction is stark disbelief and then bouts of extreme fear of where all she wants to do is run but then turns around and gets herself into dangerous situations. Then later in the book when an animal is killed she wants to act like it was a human being whose life was taken in the cruelest way possible. It really annoyed me about her character but on a level it added to the story because it just showed she’s not perfect. This is a decent read all in all. It is a clean read with no sex, minimal violence (nothing graphic) and mostly focuses on Rowan and Colin. The spark of interest is there from the beginning for Rowan but it’s a little back and forth before it finally comes out for both. The story is well written and really engaging. I would have liked a bit more body and bite to the story, more happening, more going on, but it gets the job done. I’m rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a good book for me but not something that I’d see myself diving back into to read again and again. I do look forward to reading more of this series when the books become available. I received a copy of this book for review.

EnjoyableI was enjoying this paranormal romance and the authors description of Paris was spot on and I felt as if I was on honeymooning with the characters. I was surprised how abrupt this book ended but overall a good, quick read.
