Competition is brutal and the classes, nearly impossible to pass for a half-breed angel with two left feet and a massive pair of black feathered wings.Oh, and especially if she brings her six ghostly boyfriends with her to the academy (including the recently deceased crown prince, a master thief hanged for his crimes, and a former student of the Royal College). What kind of spirit whisperer is Brynn of Haversey if she can't exorcise her own soulmates? But Brynn isn't attending the most prestigious academy in the world to become a better exorcist—she's searching for a way to bring her lovers back to life …

DNF at 60%. I'm not going to make myself miserable by reading a book that I'm not enjoying.I've already had a rough day. I got sunburned during my 4 hour soccer practice I had to run. I now have 2 busted up knees and I pulled a muscle in my back because I'm sick and I was coughing too hard. So this is me being not nice because I don't have to be and listing all of the problems I am having with this book.1) No world building.Nothing. Not enough at least. There are all of these different societies DNF at 60%. There are all of these different societies and regions but none of it is explained. There is apparently a culture of reverse harems but no discussion of whether this is because of societal norms or if there are fewer men than women. No discussion of how the magic is formed or the source of the gods. No legends. No awkward jokes. Nothing.2) Sexy-on-legs character with only one obvious flaw which is being clumsy.Again, being clumsy is not a flaw. Or really I should say that it isn't enough to be the fatal flaw of a character and shouldn't be the point of emphasis, especially if the character is full grown. I expect clumsiness out of a kid growing into their legs. If you are an adult, you have to have enough spacial awareness to not damage yourself on a regular basis. This girl has had wings her entire fucking life and still can't get the hang of them. Also, everybody wants to have sex with this girl. She is so pretty and they talk a lot about boobs and ass and all that shit but there is no chemistry between any of the other characters. They all exist to interact with her. Yawn.3) Food. Sex. Class. Sex. Politics. Sex.Good lord it is every other thought with this girl. Take a fucking break. Go get a massage or something and relax. That kind of thirst ain't cute.4) Special fucking snowflake. She can't swear. She has unique wings that nobody else has. She has the major plot twist. She is going to save the world.Bigger yawn.5) Dry as chalkThe characters are pretty damn flat. They don't have the depth to keep me involved in their stories. They don't have real motivations other than the main character and it is just so boring. I don't care if their lives all revolve around one girl but having them obsess over her is really dumb.6) ERRRBODY IS HUNG LIKE A HORSEThere's no variety there, as with many adult leaning books. But seriously? Everybody is above average? I mean all of these guys are carved from marble and make stallions blush. And they are always like ready to go. Don't they ever get dizzy or lightheaded? It's like that old joke about God giving man two heads but only enough blood to operate one at a time.I'm over it. Why am I having so many DNFs lately? This sucks.

This book is probably one of the best ones I've read by C.M. Stunich so far.The heroine was all kinds of badass and fun. And Brynn's clumsiness made me love her that much more. At first her 'cursing' annoyed me, but I quickly got used to it and frankly even started to enjoy it. I love the fact that instead of stopping to swear altogether, she found an alternative. “All things are born in light, and to light all things return.” The guys were ohmygod so amazing. Stunich did a better than great job with them. I loved each and every one of them (haven't warmed up to Spicer yet, though) and they were all unique and special, providing different strengths and character traits. I can't get over the fact that I didn't prefer one over the other and liked them equally, which doesn't happen to me very often. The plot never left me bored and even though there was a generous amount of describing and internal monologue going on, it didn't bother me at all, another delightful surprise as that's what usually gets me to either lower the rating or dnf the book altogether. “This guy... he'd become like an anchor in my world, tying me to the living when I was constantly surrounded my the dead.” Aaand I'm not done gloating over this book, so bear with me. Matriarchy.I hope I'm using the term right regarding this book, but hell, I loved how women were respected and how well they were treated in Amerin. The fact that they were encouraged to have multiple lovers (it was frowned upon if a man decided to have a harem) and were not considered weak or a liability easily helped win me over. “He stared at me like I was his. Half of me was thrilled, and the other half felt a natural sort of need to rebel. I wanted him, too, but he would have to be mine.” The only two downsides that I could think of were maybe too much dying going on that felt a bit over-the-top and the lack of world-building as I found there was not enough information given about the different regions, their traditions and why things were the way they were. Besides that, it really has been a while since I enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one and didn't have much bad things to say about it. I promise it was an honest and unbiased review and there was nothing for me to gain out of it, though *lol*. The ending, however..... I'm picking up Haunted right after I finish the review as it physically pains me not knowing... certain things. Would definitely recommend Spirited to fans of reverse harem and C.M. Stunich.

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this series to me. This was an incredible read. This is one of my favourite books of 2018. The story was amazing. The characters were amazing. Brynn was amazing. She caused mini-disasters, but I love her so much. I love that she has a big heart. Also, I love her desire for her men. The guys were amazing. I think their individual characteristics made them all better for Brynn. I love that they can be sweet or arrogant. The ending made me want to read book 2. When I started reading book 1 I really liked it, but then a common theme emerged... everybody dies. In an unnecessary kind of way. As I finished book 2 it just got a little too repetitive for my taste. Same situations where people end up the same way... dead. Keep in mind that this series is a reverse harem and it includes a lot of sex. I understand that she is a ghost magnet and that she can talk to them, but why would you want everyone around her to be a ghost? It is just so predictable to the point of being boring. Also why all the “I want them all” but “I feel so guilty”? It is supposed to be a different society where having more than one husband is the norm. Why would there be guilt? Why are you trying to present her inner monologue through our standards instead of the ones from the society you created and placed her in? So of course when you are in that situation you will be a paragon of monogamy and just ask them to masturbate so you can watch... what? Something else that I didn’t like was that the relationships developed in book one get completely ignored in book two in favor of developing new relationships. I get it that it is a harem and you have all these relationships to develop. However you can’t completely ignore the ones you already worked on, otherwise it just feels like she is trading ones for the others, not like it is all going to work out. Beyond that, some of the plot is pretty good. The danger she is in from friends and foes is well developed. As I said when I read book one I liked it a lot, but as the series continues it was more disappointing than exciting. Also it ends in a cliff hanger... again. And the second book is very short.

There are some intriguing parts to this story, enough to keep me interested enough to check out book two. There are also some pretty big plot holes and not much in the way of world building. Overall this was entertaining but yet did drag in places, it's a bit of a mixed bag really. Book two will really make or break this story for me, not sure I'd purchase the book, but am willing to continue on since it's Kindle Unlimited.

I was interested in where the plot was going and I was intrigued by the world that C.M. Stunich has created.I liked Brynn. She was different from most female characters I have read about in a way that I can't explain. She wasn't what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by that. I thought that C.M. Stunich making her extra clumsy was an interesting touch to her character. I have seen main characters stumble sometimes but I swear, Brynn can't go a few paragraphs without stumbling or knocking something over. It is a miracle that she has stayed alive as long as she has.Something that I also thought was interesting was that it was socially acceptable for the females to have multiple husbands but it was frowned upon for the males to have multiple wives. I thought that little tidbit was unique and interesting. Now to the negatives... I felt like the world building was a little weak. There were some concepts that I felt weren't explained/explored enough. An example would be the griffins. When Brynn rode one, I immediately thought of the traditional griffins because it wasn't explained what they looked like. When Vexer started flirting with her, I was weirded out because I pictured a half-lion/half-bird. It took me a few moments to realize that Vexer was part human. I felt like if C.M. Stunich was going to use terms from our world for different species, she should explain that better and be more descriptive. There were also a few characters that I would have liked more details about but considering this is the first book in the series, I can let that slide. So far, I like all of Brynn's potential love interests.I also felt like the synopsis was a little misleading. I went into this book expecting Brynn to already have six dead boyfriends so color me surprised when only three of her love interests were actually ghosts and most of them, she hadn't met yet. Also in the synopsis, it mentions Air as one of the ghosts and I felt like that ruined my emotional bonding with him a little bit. I knew he was going to die beforehand and I felt like that was an unnecessary spoiler. I might be in the minority when I say that a part of me doesn't like Air. Something about him throws up a red flag for me and I seriously think he is hiding something from Brynn that will impact the coming books.Overall, I enjoyed this book. I hope that there is a little more character development in the coming installments and I would like some more world building. I think that this series has potential and I am excited for the next book. I do hope that Spicer, Talon, Elijah, Vexer, and Dyre get to spend more time with Brynn. Right now, she is only really connected with Air and I want more of the other boys. I am excited got the next installment and I can't wait to read it. That cliffhanger was brutal and I need to know what happens.

As the book progresses, she meets various spirits who become attached to her, we don’t learn how this happens and she has no clue. All the spirits are male and they all fancy the britches off of her. She’s set on a mission which if she succeeds would mean she could bring the spirits back to life. This mission had me questioning whether these men liked her for genuine reasons or because of what they could potentially get out of her (yeah sue me, I’m a cynic).Despite my cynicsm I liked the guys, they had opposing personalities, that grated on each other in most cases. It made for funny conversations and some awkward moments. I also liked how only spirit whisperers could see the spirits unless they had a spirit charm meaning some odd moments happened when the spirits were around and those who couldn’t see them walked in on conversations/sat on them etc.The fight scenes were wonderful, fluid and graphic. Very reminiscent of some of the epic fantasy novels I read and I thoroughly enjoyed them. There is a lot of death in this book, and honestly as a fan of grimdark I’m never going to complain at lots of death! My issue though was with Brynn, I couldn’t warm to her, she’s head over heels in love with Air, this I have no issue with, and I’ve seen this trope in reverse harem before but the inclusion of additional men has worked really well regardles. But I just didn’t believe it here. She is so friggin’ obsessed with Air that I just didn’t buy it that she was attracted to anybody else. So when she did connect to other men in the group it just pissed me off. The irony being I preferred some of those guys but I just felt they could do better than Brynn.I’m hoping that the story progressing in book two will help me get over this hurdle, I love Stunich’s writing and I’m always normally totally convinced by everything she wants us to believe in the story so I’m not going to give up on this story and have the next installment pre-ordered ready to dive back in.

So apart from the description being the biggest spoiler of all, this was a good story. Straight away I fell in love with the characters and the world created. I like the punishment for the whole swearing thing. Gotta say the main character is rubbish at keeping secrets. Can’t wait to read the next one.

I really want to say I loved this, but I struggled to finish it. STRUGGLED. The start is great and then it kind of bleh. I don't have a serious investment in any of the characters. The harem promise was lack luster. The things I did like were the world and the magic.

She's an average whisperer who has applied to the prestigious Royal College each year since she reached the age to attend. Each year she has been turned down and this is her last chance. After banishing 2 nasty spirits and retrieving the ghost of a former whisperer on a personal mission for the Queen, Brynn now has her admittance. However, it didn't come as expected. She will be attending with her handler, Jasinda and 3 ghosts who have attached themselves to her. Her lifelong best friend and crush, Crown Prince Air, his cousin the former whisperer Elijah, and a palace thief who holds the Queen's secrets, Talon. Once at the College, Brynn picks up 2 more ghosts. She has also caught the attention of a Traveller's Guild Master, a Griffin, Vexer. While attending classes as a first-year Brynn has a secret assignment directly from the Queen. She is to successfully cast a resurrection spell. Originally, it was to bring back the Queen's family, which now includes the Crown Prince, but also includes Brynn's "boyfriends". To further complicate her crazy life she now knows that she received two blessings, not one from the gods. She has no idea how to use the second blessing and it puts a deadly target on her back. Imaginative. Creative. Unique. Amusing. Whimsical. Sexy. Touching. Heartfelt. Exceptional. These are only a few of the adjectives I can use to describe this new series by CM Stunich. This is easily one of my favorite books by this author and since I love her work, this is truly saying something. The characters are fantastic. Brynn has so much potential. I love the tiny little, top-heavy whisperer. Each time she causes a mini-disaster I smile. I grew attached to her as quickly as the ghosts. Her capacity for love, her self-doubt, her heartbreak, her loyalty to Jas, her hatred for Felixa (me too), her amusement for dry jokes, and her desire for her men all resonated with me. I share her desperation to pull off the resurrection spell. Air, Eli, and Vex are delicious. I love the history Brynn and Air share even if I am not a fan of some of his behavior. Eli gives me the warm fuzzies. Everything about this arrogant man appeals to me. And Vex seems to be male/griffin perfection. I'm not sure how to feel about the others yet but they certainly make it interesting! Then ... Ship. Ship. Flubbing ship. The Ending. CM ranks among the elite as a Queen of Cliffhangers and this one actually made me lose a feather. I loved this book and am eagerly waiting for the next one.

The concept is something I have never seen written before and I am excited to see where things will lead. The characters are great. They are well written with hilarious personalities and off the charts chemistry, whether it’s their friendships or something more intimate.I do hate that it ends on a cliffhanger though. It was just getting to the good parts when it ends.I will say that the blurb/synopsis is a little misleading. Not all of her boyfriends are ghosts, at least not yet anyways. It’s not really clear yet who will be in her harem but of the ones I’m pretty sure on, only 2 are actually ghosts. There is another ghost that she has had a somewhat relationship, but I’m not sure on him.One Ghost is a teacher and she doesn’t really interact with him til the end so he isn’t a clear decision yet either. The other two are not ghosts. One is a griffon and very much alive. The other is a blade whisperer who likes her but doesn’t really want to admit it. (SPOILER) He actually becomes a ghost at the end.So I guess technically only one is not a ghost. But 3 of them don’t start off that way but do so within the story. That makes it a bit misleading, as I think many will expect them all the start off as ghosts.I definitely recommend this book.It is amazing and I don’t think you will regret picking it up and giving it a go.It was super fantastic!

I was spellbound. As with any fantasy book, there is ample time devoted to the character and world buildup which I absolutely adored. It wasn't bogged down in details nor was it too sparse where I found myself confused. I loved the interactions our heroine, Brynn, had with her ever-growing harem. And as a fan of the rh genre, it was a refreshing take on an actual reverse harem. I don't want to say too much about how the guys come to be with her - don't you hate spoilers? - but I will say that it's unlike anything I've ever read. I loved the dynamic and different relationships Brynn has/grows with her men, too. Oh and the relationship she has with her handler, Jas, was great! I loved that the author gave Brynn a solid female friend to have, which isn't something you see too often in rh (outside of this author and a couple others). Did I mention how much I loved Spirited? It might actually be my favorite book by this author, ever. Which, if you follow my reviews, that really says something. I cannot wait to pick up book 2 and I have no doubt that it will be just as amazing as book 1. I can't recommend Spirited enough.

Interesting fantasy world. I have problems with it, though. The protagonist is getting it on with ghosts. It's okay to do that, I guess. But, the author just expects us to buy into it. I need to know how this works. The ghosts are able to become physical enough to have regular sex, but, I'm sorry... they can get her pregnant if she's not careful?... Ghost sperm is a thing?...My other problem with it, aside from the occasional typo that was overlooked, is that there is inconsistency. In one chapt Interesting fantasy world. Ghost sperm is a thing?...My other problem with it, aside from the occasional typo that was overlooked, is that there is inconsistency. In one chapter, the first person narrator (also, what is it with self-published authors and first person narration. Stop it!) explains that the ghosts can choose whether or not they feel pain, and in other chapters they feel pain when they don't have to and they don't like it. Huh? Exactly. My last complaint is this: writers... please... don't end a book at a climax. I get that you want us to buy the rest in the series, but there needs to be some kind of temporary resolution with a cliff hanger. That cliff hanger, if done right, will make us buy the next book. But, when you end the book at the height of a battle scene, you're just being a lazy writer. This novel only gets two stars just because the author has a lot of potential. Being a writer myself, I can see she's trying to pump the books out. Unfortunately, that's the only way to make any revenue when one self-publishes. You have to write a lot and mass produce stories. The downside is that when you move too fast, you end up sacrificing the quality.

Holy ship! Spirited exceeded my expectations and then some. Not only has this book become my favorite of C.M. Stunich’s (which is saying something because I adore Allison and Groupie), but the heroine is probably one of my all-time favorites out of all the books I have read up to this point. And the men in this book!! I seriously have no idea how Stunich has written 70+ books, and yet in every single one, all of her men (and women) have distinct personalities that stand out among one another. I Holy ship! Though I would have to say that Vexer and Elijah and Air and Spicer and Talon and Dyre are my favorites. Wait, that’s all of them! Oops! This is a reverse harem, so why choose? On top of the lovable characters, this is a fantasy reverse harem book. There are SO few fantasy reverse harem books out there, and none nearly as good as Spirited. Finally, a fantasy RH that I can 100% get behind! The world building is so well-done, and there is also a handy map at the beginning to help picture the continent (and countries) where all of our beloved characters hail from. Flubbing awesome! The ending!! Omigosh that ending. It is definitely not the worst cliffhanger I have ever read (thank goodness for that), but wowza am I chomping at the bit to know what happened! I cannot wait for more of these characters and this world, and I am so thankful we only have to wait a month for the sequel, Haunted. So one-click this baby ASAP! You will not regret it.

4.5 StarsI've been excited for this book since the author first teased it months ago, and I was not disappointed! I tend to rate reverse harem (RH) books on a personal bell curve I have just for RH books, and this author always is always solidly at the top of the curve for me. I probably still like this author's Rock Hard Beautiful series best of all, but it's a tough call. This is the first book in a paranormal RH series, and it is a full-length book, which I really appreciate. I love all of the characters, including all of the heroes, and the concept of the story. There is not much "academy" (school) at all, if that is what you are looking for, but the plot is really interesting and fun even without it. I enjoyed the fact that I went into this book only knowing the basics, and not knowing who the love interests were going to be/when they would appear, so it was exciting as I discovered everything. There is still so much to learn about some of the heroes, and their relationships with Brynn, and I truly cannot wait for the next book. The only negatives for me were so minor compared to my enjoyment of the book overall, but I will list them anyway: there could be a tad more fine-tuning in terms of copyediting, a couple of extremely minor inconsistencies (at least they came across that way to me), and there is an overly liberal usage of ellipses throughout the book which kind of bugged me.

This was my first time reading a reverse harem novel and I LOVED IT. The heat was palpable between the characters, though I'm definitely waiting to see more of Vexen. A fun fantasy read. I don't have a problem with invented curse words, but the rules around it didn't seem to make sense, in which case I'd rather not have the rules explained at all. She can call someone a dick because it's not just an insult, it's also a piece of anatomy, but she can't say bitch. This doesn't make sense because a bitch is also a female dog. She can say f*ck depending on the whim of the gods. This really distracted me from the plot, especially because the author stopped and explained it every few pages. By the third or fourth time that the story was stopped to explain either the fake curse word or the reasoning behind it, I was impatient. By the end of the book I was skipping over these parts. The plot, world building, and characters definitely made this a five star read, but the foe cursing was impossible to ignore.

Alright, I have mixed feeling about this one. Things I liked for sure : The unusual world interpretation mixed with (our) world mythology and objects - mainly referring to the Japanese Katana and Yokai - as well as the concept of angels, demigods etc. and the idea of being able to see ghosts right after they die. Apart from that, how the mc met the ghosts and the boys from her harem. Apart from that, how the mc met the ghosts and the boys from her harem. Only by the end of the book, we were presented with other characters POV, though I think it would've been nicer if there was more throughout the book to know how the boys felt towards Brynn. Lastly the fact that in comparison to the language of other C.M. Stunich books, where there's quite a lot of swearing which I don't mind at all, it was refreshing to see none of that in Spirited. HOWEVER...Things I didn't like : The adjustment to the whole 'swearing business' took over up to 50 pages in the beginning, which got a little annoying. Personally, I think a few well-formed mentions would've conveyed the importance of swearing(in this concept) just as well. Another thing was the veeeery slow buildup to the spell they had to perform. Despite the importance of the situation (as presented by the Queen and the death of a certain character) I was surprised the amount of time they wasted when gathering ingredients etc... Though overall I liked the story, as it was different in terms of writing compared to other Stunich books, and overly a new concept so it wasn't at all bad :)

Holy flubbing ship!! I LOVED this book!! From start to finish, it was so fun, different, exciting, sweet, and sexy! All rolled into one exquisite package! The characters were unique and all their own. They each had depth, without an insane amount of boring backlog details but enough to really bring them to life. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting (aside from a sexy ghostly scene or two 😉 and, well, ghosts because I don't read those often), but this blew all my hopes out of the water. I'm not going to give a synopsis. I generally don't like reading them myself in reviews (I mean truly, doesn't the author already provide that? Who wants another?) And I doubly hate a review that gives away important info from the story. So, what I will say is that the synopsis for this book only hints at the exciting storyline entailed. There is so much more to this book than that. AND you'll totally appreciate my first sentence once you buy and read this flubbing book!! So do it!

Soooo good! Loved it!!!Absolutely loved ‘Spirited’!!! I anxiously awaited this book, and it was well worth the wait! Brynn is one of my favorite characters!! Vex is also one of the only two of her men actually alive now, and I can’t wait for them to get together. I really felt so bad for Elijah because he clearly wants Brynn, but got put off by Air. So I hope he gets his time with her soon. I really, really can’t wait for the next book ‘Haunted’ to come out so I can continue this amazing series! Already obsessed with this series!! One of my favorites by C.M. Stunich!

Stunich, you have yet again wowed me. Spirited is so beautiful written with just a hint or two of some sass. We all love a good sassy character. When i first heard about this series I really thought it was going to be just straight ghostly love. Just Brynn someone stumbling across some men who haven’t passed on yet, however, I didn’t realize who I was reading from! Stunich brought in such a vast variety of love interests. The flow of the book makes you feel like you’re riding a VERY frustrating roller coaster because you just need more and more. I had to slow myself down at some points because my eyes hurt from reading so long. Brynn had a few characters where I was rooting for their romance, but I always kept in my mind I have plenty more fish to swim on by that I needed to check out first. This is most definitely an adult read. Some scenes are intense and leave you wiggling for me. Over all this book amazed me. It’s a sexy and sultry book of one shy little angel girl breaking from her shell and building her magical harem. I’m so excited to finish Haunted and get the third book!! 10/10 Recommend this bad boy!!

PotentialThis was a really good book, though it took quite awhile for me to get into it. There were lots of missed editing mistakes I found, and in my opinion, Brynn’s “non-cussing” cussing in the beginning was overdone. I certainly have my own potty mouth, so nothing against swearing! Other than that, I really enjoyed this book, and it could be 5 stars if the errors were fixed and the “flubbing” and “blitzing” toned down just a tad. And I was slowly swept away into trying to decide which of them is my favorite.. lucky girl can have them all though, lol. I cannot believe the cliff hanger of how the book ended.. an I have to wait more than a month for the next book!!
