The Longest Silence (Shades of Death #4)
A killer stole her voice. Now she's ready to take it back. Don't miss the chilling Shades of Death series from USA TODAY bestselling author Debra Webb.  Andrea James was free. She had been for eleven years—or so she needed everyone to believe. What really happened during the longest eighteen days of her life, when she and two other women were held captive by a dangerous serial killer, wasn't something she could talk about. Not with him watching. Not unless she wanted to end up like the ones who didn't make it out. But when more women go missing in an eerily similar manner, Andrea knows her prolonged silence will only seal their fates. She's finally ready to talk; she just needs someone to listen. FBI special agent Tony LeDoux can't deny he finds Andrea compelling, he's just not sure he believes her story. But with the clock ticking, Andrea will do anything to convince him, even if it means unearthing long-buried secrets that will land them squarely in the crosshairs of the killer…

I luckily received the ARC of this book. As with all of Debra's books it was so very hard to put down. This is the next book in the Shades of Death series. This book focuses around Tony LeDoux. You will remember him for using Bobbie to catch her husbands and sons killer. But they bonded by what happened to of them. Tony gets a call his niece is missing and heads out to meet his sister and husband to find out what is going on. He has been consuming lots of alcohol since he quit the bureau..but he still uses his credentials to throw his weight around..one night in a bar Joanna comes up to him and they end up together..she slowly starts telling him what happened to her eighteen years ago...He doesn't believe her at first and thinks she is a killer when a body turns up but the longer they are together she lets things spill of what happened to her...Tony calls in Bobbie and Nick and they help them. They are in a rush to find his niece and the other girls. They are many twists as to who was behind all of this experimentation of the years with girls. There are many players and I suspected them all but was surprised when I found out who was behind it all...was not who I expected at all til it came out. You will not be able to lay this book down as you ache for what has happened to the girls and what they are subjected to while held captive. You will shed tears with Jo especially during her flashbacks. Thanks to Tony though she will make it to the other side. MUST Read!!!

I am privileged to be a part of Debra Webb’s “Street Team” so as such, I received an ARC of THE LONGEST SILENCE, her fourth book in the Shades of Death series. This book focuses on Tony LeDoux, the former FBI agent who is washed up because of his alcoholism. However, he is called back into action when his niece is kidnapped from her college campus in Milledgeville, Georgia and his sister Angie calls him for his help. This book focuses on Tony LeDoux, the former FBI agent who is washed up because of his alcoholism. However, he is called back into action when his niece is kidnapped from her college campus in Milledgeville, Georgia and his sister Angie calls him for his help. This is a non-stop thriller about some really ruthless characters who have taken college girls for the last twenty years, raped and tortured them for two weeks and then set them free. But for what purpose? And who is responsible? Enter Joanna Guthrie, a former victim who is determined to have revenge on those who held her captive and who did such horrible things to her and Ellen Carson and Carrie Cole twenty years ago. Joanna is a reporter for an online paper and has been keeping up with the kidnappings and knows what is going on, so she teams up with Tony to find the perpetrators before it is too late. This is a very dark mystery, with heartbreaking scenes of torture that the girls are enforced to endure and many twists and turns that Tony and Joanna have to follow to find the real criminals. Tony finally ends up calling in reinforcements, in the form of Nick Shade and Bobbie Gentry. Once they show up, the action goes really fast to an unbelievable conclusion. Those who have read the other Shades of Death novels will not want to miss this one. I will admit that Tony was not my favorite character previously, but the character development in this novel is so well done that he actually became a sympathetic character and by the end of the book, I liked him. This book is well-written and with so much going on constantly that you will not be able to put it down until you get to the end of it. I even loved the “cameo” appearances of Nick and Bobbie since they were so central to the other books. I hope to see all characters again in the future, because these characters and the action that they bring with them to the pages of a book will blow your mind as well as make you think about the evil in the world and how good triumphs over evil.

For me this book had a different pace than the other books in The Shades of Death series. Also while Nick & Bobbi made a brief appearance, this book featured Tony LeDoux. This Special Agent paid a very high price for his obsession with a serial killer, and because of it he lost so very much. As usual, great plot with twists I never saw coming. I wasn't to sure about Jo but by the end I was all in and cheering for her as well as Tony. Past and present collide for Jo, and she finally makes the choice to end the secrets. And I really enjoyed the brief visit with Nick & Bobbi too!!!!Debra Webb has another winner!
