The rest of us do, but never you. Maria is killing herself and this family, and I refuse to let her destroy my life in the process." Joe, Malina's brother gets wind of his parents plan to make her take the wrap for Maria's latest drug charges and hatches a plan to keep her safe. It just so happened Joe and Luc had become friends after that first incident so Joe uses Luc's hatred of Maria to keep Malina safe. Luc kidnaps Malina believing it's Maria with plans to extract revenge by making her work hard on his ranch.I really liked when they first got to the ranch with Luc still believing Malina is Maria but not understanding why she seemed so different and why he is so attracted to her. I like the fun banter between Luc and Melina and Mason the cat brought some light hearted fun and giggles. So this was a jam packed little novella, it had a bit of everything and I really enjoyed it. Yes it was a little OTT but in a good way, there could have been a little more 'loving' but hey couldn't there always in saying that what scenes we did get were very steamy. I could have kept reading about Melina and Luc's life on ranch. BOOK 2 - COWBOY AND THE THIEFTBR- soon ;)

Rugged Texas Cowboy by Lora Leigh is an erotic romance read that combines books one and two of the Cowboys and Captives series under one title. Each story within is novella length and features completely different characters and story line. The problem is that this isn't the first time Melina's sister and parents wanted her to take Maria's place and the first time landed her in jail where she was almost killed. But when Melina refuses and returns home she then finds herself taken hostage by the man whom Maria had dealt with in the past. In the second story of the series, Cowboy and the Thief, Angel Manning finds that her father has sold a precious family heirloom that Angel had counted on owning one day. Angel's mother had told her that the legendary Irish torque would lead her to the man of her dreams one day and she refuses to let her father get away with selling it especially when she finds it went to the notorious Jack Riley so she plans to take back what is rightly hers. Well the first thing I'd say about these two stories is I really just didn't get them at all and perhaps was not the right person to be reading and reviewing them. Starting off with the first story it really had some great ideas that just didn't shake out to where I thought it should. The idea of a twin standing in for another in legal trouble certainly had my interest but then the story took the turn of the kidnapping which might have worked if both parties had realized the mistaken idea and then fell in love but instead it just make me think of stockholm syndrome the entire read. Now as for the second book in the series the writing in this one just didn't seem to gel as well as the first book had. My one positive when finishing book one was that the author had talent but I just hadn't any interest in the story but the second book almost seemed to be by someone else. The story also seemed way off of what the first book was and really neither made me think of sexy cowboys which was the draw to picking this one up to begin with. In the end it became obvious this series is just not for me at all leaving me to rate it at 1.5 stars. It's nice giving it a try and turns out a quick-paced read. Cowboy and the Captive - 3/5 stars* Melina Catarina Angeles is a humble, refined and selfless lady compared to her twin sister, Maria Catarina Angeles. She's sick of being used as a pawn and suffering the punishments because of Maria's criminal acts. This time, she refused to take Maria's place and being disowned by her parents was a relief. Her parents are ridiculous and it's unnerving they tolerate Maria's drug addiction. It's unclear why they're still favoring her instead of Melina. I just don't get it and the audacity of them to pull the guilt card to convince Melina to stand in Maria's place..... What a bunch of IDIOTS.* Luc Jardin seeks revenge on Maria for what she did to him and his partner Jack Riley. He kidnapped her and unaware he took the wrong lady. I understand he wasn't able to differentiate Melina and Maria but with so many hints, I think he's not smart enough to recognize it. Cowboy and the Thief - 2/5 stars* I crossed my fingers somehow this will trump the first story because this is about Jack Riley's love life. He went to Ireland to visit his old friend, Joseph Manning. He's a widower and has a beautiful daughter named Angel. Angel was a sweet lady and believes in true love. She's mesmerized with Jack but went she finds out Jack bought the Irish Torque, she wants it back. Jack and Angel's romance was an insta- love. The plot was rushed and at one point, I got bored. Despite of my annoyance with the first story I find its drama more promising. I'm just not hooked with this one.The stories are entertaining and the steamy scenes are good. I'll give this book 3/5 stars.

Cowboy and The Captive:This is an enemies to lovers and a mistaken identity situation. Melina has a twin sister, Maria who is addicted to drugs. Her parents keep guilting Melina into impersonating Maria when she gets caught to get her out of trouble. The problem is Maria is getting in worse situations that Melina can't talk her way out of and it's going to cost her her life. Luc doesn't want to hurt her, but he thinks he can straighten her up by kidnapping her and making her detox. What he doesn't know is that he kidnaps Melina instead of Maria.Luc and Melina's story was very entertaining. Lora Leigh has no problems with letting the sparks fly between her main characters. I really enjoyed this one.Cowboy and The Thief:Enemies to lovers trope. Jack is visiting his old friend Joseph in Ireland when he meets his daughter, Angel. Angel is very prim and proper with a hidden temper underneath and no one can get her riled faster than Jack.Joseph is conspiring to get Jack and Angel together and he takes a risk by selling a family heirloom to Jack that is legend to be responsible for granting true love to the daughters in the line. Angel is furious and follows him back to Texas to try and steal it back.Once again, Lora Leigh had the sparks flying in this short novella but I will admit I was a bit confused in the beginning. I couldn't tell if Jack and Angel had already known each other or had just met. I felt like I was missing the true beginning of the story. Still a very entertaining read!ARC provided by NetGalley.

Lora Leigh certainly knows how to write a book that immediately draws the reader into the action. This is especially true of the first story, The Cowboy and the Captive. It was a very enjoyable romance that centered around a kidnapping paired with a case of mistaken identity. Complete with loads of family drama, this story had a little bit of everything that makes for a great romance. Exactly what I've come to expect when I pick up a book by this author. At first as I was reading in the beginning, I got a little worried, because I hate when the hero's, in this case Luc was being mean to heroine (Melina), but I continued reading and so glad that I did..As you continue you find out the truth, who is who, what happened. So, I really don’t know how to rate this book because it’s technically 2 different stories. The 1st half of the book or the first story, I really enjoyed. I liked the characters & the storyline. The 2nd half of the book or the 2nd story, I didn’t really care for. It didn’t flow together for me like the first story did.

Jack goes to visit an old acquaintance in Ireland, who happens to be Angel's father. After unsuccessfully trying to seduce Angel while staying at their estate, Jack travels back to America with a newly purchased family heirloom meant for Angel, and Angel follows to reclaim what is rightfully hers.Of the two, this was my least favorite. I found the characters to be a little lacking, especially in the beginning. The book itself is quite short, so it makes sense that developing the characters properly would be difficult, but I wish they would have gotten more depth. There is no growing attraction, as in the first book. They meet, and Jack almost immediately starts trying to seduce Angel. Just a bit too unrealistic for me to truly enjoy the book. All in all, I would say Rugged Sexy Cowboy is worth a read.

My main complaint with this and with many of Ms. Leigh’s books is that the villains are one-dimensional. They have no reason for doing bad things, they’re just pure evil with no redeeming qualities. I specially hate it when the main baddie is female. They seem to be more cruel, more heartless. In any case, it’s still worth a read. 3.5 stars upgraded to 4. A matchmaking Irish dad. A sexy cowboy and a prim and proper Irish daughter. Cowboy and the Thief is light and sexy. There’s not much conflict, just the usual reluctance to commit. Luc and his best friend Jack didn't know they were flying drugs back and that they were expendable. He wanted Maria to be punished for what she did but that never happened. Melina's parents have always expected her to take the blame and punishments for her sister. To the point where she even spent a week in jail 2 years prior in her sister's stead. Now they want her to take her sister's place yet again. She refuses and her parent's disown her. But then Luc decides he will teach Maria to take responsibility for her actions, not realizing the woman he kidnaps is actually Melina. He doesn't believe her when she tries to tell him as he has never heard about a sister let alone a twin. I truly liked this book. The way the parents treated her just made me so angry!! And then when Luc doesn't believe her when she tries to tell him who she is? I wanted to smack him for not at least looking into it to make sure he knew the truth. But then they both learn that they can depend on each other and that they truly love each other. Even after Luc finds out everything that happened to Melina 2 years ago. Very good story!Book 2 is about Jack Riley, who is the best friend that is almost killed with Luc in the first book and Angel Manning. Jack is in Ireland for business with Angel's father. They are attracted to each other but Angel refuses to be another notch in Jack's bed post after a bad experience when she was younger. Her father just wants to see some sort of fire his daughter's eyes again. It hasn't truly been there since he sent her away to school, thinking he was doing the best thing for her. He thinks Jack can bring some sort of balance to her life and sets into motion events to hopefully bring that about. He sells Jack a torque that has been passed down the female side of her mother's family since ancient times. This is in turn pushes Angel to go to Texas and attempt to steal it back. Then the sparks really fly between Jack and Angel! This was also a good read. The beginning was a little slow for me but by the end I really enjoyed it. Jack was a very likable guy, especially once he realizes that what he had given up on ever finding is right in front of him now. Angel seemed to be extremely snooty at first until you find out why she is the way she is. She and Jack are perfect for each other and balance each other out. All in all, both books were extremely well written with characters that I really enjoyed. Well worth the read and you can never go wrong with a Lora Leigh book!

She’d spent her life saving her parents the humiliation of her sister but she was done. This last time almost destroyed her and it was time to walk away. Luc Jardin was almost killed because of Maria Angeles. He was ready for vengeance and teaching her a lesson. Luc was unaware Maria had a twin sister though and kidnapped Melina by mistake. Neither was prepared for the intense attraction they’d have for one another. And Luc soon finds out that Melina is not what he thought. But as threats from her sister resurface, both are in danger of losing more than their hearts. Cowboy and the Thief Angel Manning had always doubted the magic of her family’s Irish Torque. Legend claimed its owner would find her true mate. Though she didn’t believe in magic, that didn’t mean she didn’t hope. So when her father sells the torque to American Jack Riley, Angel is determined to get it back even if she has to steal it. Jack couldn’t explain why he was drawn to the uptight boarding school miss but there was something about her he couldn’t resist. He didn’t expect her to break into his home and try to steal the torque, but “damned if he didn’t know what to do with her now that she was here”, Whoever labeled these stories as erotic labeled them well! Both stories are filled with great tension and romance, and lots of steam! I loved both couples and their battle of wills while fighting their fierce attraction. If you’re a fan of Lora Leigh, you’ll fall in love with this one. There are plenty of humorous moments, down and dirty moments, and emotional moments that will keep you turning the pages. If you are new to Lora Leigh, this is a great chance to find out what you’ve been missing. A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection.

Rugged Texas Cowboy comprises of two standalone stories. Cowboy and the Captive Luc and his partner and best friend Jack are ranchers who run an international import export business on their aeroplane. They are duped in one of their transactions and are badly injured. Maria is the culprit and Luc sets out to seek justice. He gets what he wants, but unfortunately it's Melina, Maria's twin who gets the rough end of the stick. He gets what he wants, but unfortunately it's Melina, Maria's twin who gets the rough end of the stick. Their parents protect Maria and Melina is forever taking responsibility for her twin's wrongdoings. When she decides that enough is enough, she finds herself being kidnapped. Luc believes that it's Maria and intends to teach her a lesson. He despises Maria and even when he notices the difference in personality, he goes in denial. The attraction between them is hard to resist and when they give in, sparks fly. He becomes aware that Melina's life is in danger and his protective instinct kicks in. It's an intense and sensual story where drugs and family issues play a big part. It's short, easy to read and has a nice flow. It would appeal to 18+ fans of steamy romance with mystery and danger. Cowboy and the Thief This is Jack's story. It revolves around the legend behind a torque which has been passed from mother to daughter for centuries. Angel is the current owner of the torque, but she doesn't quite believe in the legend. Jack is invited to visit the castle where Angel and her father reside in Ireland. Although, Angel is attracted to him, his reputation has preceeded him and she sees him as nothing more than a womaniser. When Jack buys the torque, Angel is determined to get it back. Even if it means stealing! What she didn't expect is the effect that Jack has on her. This is an erotic romance with a lighter note. It's funny and intense at the same time. It's a nice complement to the first story. I was kindly issued with an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

His plan is to get her clean from the drugs. Because of her drug running, she almost got Luc and his partner killed and when he confronted her, her parents went out of their way to try and ruin his business. The woman is not Maria though, she is Melina, the twin sister. She tries to tell him but since many people don't really know about her (which I thought was strange) Luc doesn't believe her.He does see things that he doesn't think Maria would ever do and he is extremely bothered by the attraction he feels toward her. He is actually starting to believe her when he learns Melina is in danger, from her own sister....can he protect her?I really enjoyed this story the most. I was totally appalled by the actions of Melina's family toward her, and what they expected of her when it came to sister Maria! The second story is Jack's story. He travels a lot for business, is cocky and confident. He is in Ireland meeting up with a friend. His friend has a daughter Angel and she has no use for Jack because of his attitude, although she is attracted to him. Her father then sells Jack a family treasure, a torque, and Angel is highly upset. She cannot sway her father's decision and when Jack leaves to go back to America, she follows him. This torque is passed down from female to female and is said to help find the true soul mate of the current owner. Is Jack her soulmate? While I did like this story, I enjoyed the first one more. I have read many books by this author and like her writing style as she knows how to draw the writer in.

Rugged Texas Cowboy by Lora LeighTwo novellas in one book – Having seen Lora Leigh’s name about for some time I thought this book might be a nice introduction to her writing but perhaps not. This is a story of two friends/business partners in business together as pilots. They take on an iffy job and nearly die in the prologue and then have their romances told in each of the novellas. I have to say that if you are looking for a cowboy romance or one that could possibly maybe happen and is realistic then stay away. If, on the other hand, you are looking for some steamy scenes with more of a fantasy feel then this might work for you – sadly I didn’t really fall for either hero or heroine of these stories. COWBOY AND THE CAPTIVE Luc Jordan kidnaps the woman who set him up in the prologue – or thinks he does – and has the blessing of her brother to do so. I had trouble with more than one thing in this story from the parents adoring Maria and using Melina as her scapegoat to the instant attraction she felt the first time she saw Luc…before the kidnapping. Not my cup of tea…though I don’t mind a bit of bondage and other things that happened in this book IF in the right context with consent of both parties. COWBOY AND THE THIEFJack Riley ends up in Ireland where he buys a family heirloom with magic powers. Angel Manning, the daughter of the seller of the heirloom, is incensed by the purchase and heads off to steal it back. This book again has some questionable interactions in the bedroom and a romance I found unbelievable…the only thing I can say is that necklace must have had STRONG magical properties to see the Jack and Angel together at the end. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 1-2 Stars

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads. I have to admit that I didn’t get on terribly well with either of these two stories. The first story starts with a betrayal, a shootout and a kidnapping. It’s a complicated yet exciting premise that still doesn’t completely make sense to me. Beyond the complex plot and overly simplistic characters, it was the whole matter of dubious consent / non consent that really turned me off of this book. Beyond the complex plot and overly simplistic characters, it was the whole matter of dubious consent / non consent that really turned me off of this book. Luc kidnaps a traumatised Melina, a woman who was previously abused in prison, and he immediately pursues a sexual relationship with his prisoner. Call me a snowflake but the whole situation made me squeamish. The second story starts with Angel and Jack on a more equal footing but the slightly exaggerated Irish setting and characters didn’t quite work for me. Back in Texas, Angel’s behaviour is childish and pretty bizarre. Jack’s behaviour is less palatable and his ultimatum (sex or jail) made me really uncomfortable. Outside of a consenting BDSM relationship, his threats of physical punishment for her perceived infractions left me cold. I may be overreacting, but I feel #metoo stories coming out of both of these situations and we do young women no favours with romance writing that glorifies kidnapping, coercion, violence and infantilized women. I remember reading some PNR by Lora Leigh some years back. I think the romance genre has changed a great deal over the past few years and this traditional, more simplistic style of romance now feels incredibly dated. In 2017, I expect interesting, empowered women in romance writing.

This is two books in one. The first book is Cowboy and the Captive. This is a really interesting book. There’s all kinds of twists and turns in here and you will be surprised at all the exciting things that happen. It was really good and kept you hanging on tight to your seat. Then we get to the 2nd book, Cowboy and the Thief. This book is about Jack from book 1. He’s gone to visit a friend in Ireland where he meets Joe’s daughter, Angel. Well, things don’t start off very good with them but it does heat up fast. There’s a lot of heat between them but it comes and goes. Then Joe sells Jack a torque that had been in the family for centuries. That doesn’t sit well with Angel who decides she’s going to America and get it back. It belonged to her mother and should have been given to her when her mother passed away. And it shouldn’t have been sold for any reason. There’s a bit of a story about this torque but you need to read the book to find out what the story means to Angel and her family. These are 2 very good books with some very exciting things happening in them. I always love to read books written by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.

So I majorly misread this blurb. It said it was about two hot cowboys. I thought it meant two hot cowboys together. You know, like "together". Once I flipped through my Kindle pages all confused a few times and then back and read the blurb properly I settled down to what was actually going on. This is a combo book of two previous stories under the Cowboys and Captives' series. This is books one and two of that combined. This first book was about Melina who is pressured into pretending to be her twin. A lot of shady stuff goes on that leads to her being taken hostage by a man from her twin's past. This story was alright. I'm not a big fan of twins pretending to be other. (I have twins & for some reason it's just a huge pet peeve of mine).I enjoyed the second book better. It was about some missing jewelry and a girl trying to retrieve a family heirloom.Overall these were pretty good. They were what I would consider primarily erotica and there was not a lot of detailed plot in either of them. I'm not sure what the purpose of putting them together was since they've both already been released. If you're a fan of this author's you will probably enjoy these.**ARC received through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

Cowboys and Captives is a fabulous name for this series and it's one well-worth reading! Lora Leigh is an amazing author that always wets your appetite with great characters, quality writing and passion. I thought these two stories were both fun and unique. Not at all a recycled concept or plot. In Cowboy and the Captive, Melina is the good girl younger twin. She has spent years getting her sister out of trouble by pretending to be Maria for her court appearances and charity work. But when her parents try to pressure her into helping again when Maria might spend the next 20 years in jail, she's had enough. She stands her ground and gets disowned for her trouble. Little does she know her troubles just begun, when she gets kidnapped by one of Maria's victims. One of the especially hot ones too!In Cowboy and the Thief, ever since being sent to boarding school when she was young, Angel has been keeping herself contained so as not to be sent away again. She loves her home and family and has no interest in being anywhere else. But keeping herself contained doesn't allow for finding someone to spend your life with. When her father sells a family heirloom out from under her, she can no longer contain herself. Following the buyer back to Texas, she breaks in to his house to get it back. While getting caught wasn't on her agenda, the pleasure it brings may just be worth it.

Angel finds Jack to be the most sensual male specimen that she had ever laid eyes on until she discovers that he has purchased a family heirloom and then she vows to get it back no matter what it takes. Angel’s plan is simply to steal it back, but Jack has other plans that manage to leave Angel wanting more than the heirloom.
