I quite like how the MC is rescued by this mysterious person at the beginning, still the rest of the story feel a bit flaw.

But the real fun begins after Asta's rescue when he goes on vacation. Let's break it down.Asta and his entire part during the mixer with Luck, Finral and those girls was freaking hilarious. I'm not quite onboard with AstaxNoelle, so it was nice to see him form some sort of connection with Rebecca. We see Asta struggle a bit at the battle at the end of this volume - and we also see him struggle trying to make some sort of connection with Gauche, a fellow Black Bull who cares about one thing only - his little sister. It's strange to meet someone who doesn't immediately get taken in by Asta - much like Luffy from One Piece, Asta is that kid who you just can't help but like.Gauche Adlai is a character that I'm on the fence about. I like him - his design, his bad attitude - but the sister complex is weird and off putting even when you know it's not romantic, he's super defensive and would be willing to let other children die as long as his sister was safe. That type of thought process made him quite unlikeable as a character, but much like most characters who come in contact with Asta, it seems we will be seeing a change or shift in Gauche's cold personality soon.Rebecca is the newest possible love interest for Asta, and I like her a lot! I've always been drawn to those strong female characters who take on the responsibility of caring for their siblings - no matter what their circumstances are. You can tell she loves her family and wouldn't trade them for anything.Baro and Niege... Baro has to be the most unlikeable and uninteresting bad guy so far, can't say I was sad to see his magic completely take him over. He likely won't survive it. Good riddance. Niege, on the other hand, was very likeable. Black Clover seems to like pulling out sympathetic villains, and it does it quite well. Niege is very childlike, and all he wants is friends. Too bad he got pulled into a bad crowd. Though the story slows considerably in the middle, volume 5 of Black Clover continues to keep me interested in the storyline and the characters. I can't wait to find out how the battle with Baro, Niege and Sally concludes in the next volume and leave this one with 4 out of 5 stars.

In anticipation for the upcoming anime adaption of Black Clover I decided it was time for me to catch up with the series. Many have rightly so called this series the magic Naruto. Many have rightly so called this series the magic Naruto. The similarities are surprising, but Black Clover has some quite different things to offer shonen fans. This volume picks up with the end of a major story which sees our introduction to the Wizard Emperor. Our main Asta is able to witness the power of the master of all magic. This also gives readers the exciting preview of how insanely powerful our characters and their battles will be in the near future. The second part of this book feels more like a filler arc that give Asta and the world writer/artist Tabata some more development. This volume had some humor and a little bit of action thus giving this series a pretty good balance. I feel like manga readers should give this series a chance. If you do enjoy this series I recommend you check out the following first volumes of these shonen: Fairy Tail, Vol. 1, The Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 1, Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 1, & D.Gray-man, Vol. 1.

It's picking up its pace, unveiling the villains' convoluted plans and also back story of dear old Gauche, his teammate. What's interesting here is the sister (nun). We tend to underestimate the elderly. We forgot that beneath the wrinkle is someone with a wealth of knowledge and also old doesn't necessarily means weak. The old nun is such a BAMF.

Asta gets caught up in the rescue of the children of a church orphanage not unlike the one he was raised in. He's accompanied by a different Black Bull who we get to meet in more detail: Gauche. He turns out to be frighteningly obsessed with his own little sister. The terrorist group from last volume reappears in part involved in the plot the protagonists foil.

I enjoy the Black Clover series. The stories, the characters, and the art just keep getting more and more well made. Aster is still his goofy but driven self, Noelle needs to stand up to her feelings, and the new addition of Gauche was interesting! Can't wait to see what happens next!

After the last book in the series this one was a welcoming change in pace. All of a sudden there's hope again that the main characters may not be as useless as the last book made them out to be.

This book was awesome, the fight scenes, and the crazy mysterious organization causing chaos(reminds me of Behemoth), and the way it ended. I cannot wait for the next volume in this series.

THE GOOD Asta: Asta trying to impress a girl at a mixer? Excuse me while I die from laughter.Noelle: She's finally grown on me. The scenes where she pretended to be a waitress were great. THE BAD Charmy: She's... unique. Not a fan.Gauche; He's an asshole, don't like him much either.

4 starsAsta’s rescue from the terror group Eye of the Midnight Sun is anti-climatic. I was kind of bummed. The Wizard King swoops in and BOOM! That was the end of that. All but one of the terrorists escapes, and now Julius Novachrono, the Wizard King, has a another mystery to solve. What is that jewel-encrusted slab in the terrorists’ possession?Asta was injured during the attack on the capital, so he’s put on leave. He ends up in Nean, where he is visiting a friend. He’s attacked by Gauche when the Magic Knight with a sister-complex catches Asta playing with a group of orphans, including Gauche’s sister Marie. Gauche is creepy, creepy, creepy. He attacks Asta with his mirror magic, but has to call off the fun when it’s discovered that all of the children have been stolen away.Asta, ever the hero, races off the save the kiddos. Gauche in only interested in saving Marie, and the rest of the kids are on their own, as far as he’s concerned. Gauche is one of the most unlikeable characters in the series. What a complete jerk. He could care less about his comrade in arms, an elderly nun, or a bunch of helpless kids. Noble this guy ain’t. I don’t think he can redeem himself, but your mileage may vary. The battle between the evil child snatchers and Asta is pretty one-sided, until the bad guys get a little help from the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Now maybe Asta’s ticket is up. He’s attacked by a kooky chick with an insatiable curiosity. She wants to know what Asta is. A disgusting lick here and a painful bite there, and she’s no closer to an answer. All I want to know is WHAT? How scientific is it to bite your research subject to pinpoint what he is. Yuck! Just yuck. GERMS! I’m kind of looking forward to her getting the stuffing knocked out of her in the next volume. Oh, how I hope that happens!Grade: 4 stars

~3/5We get to see some of the aftermath from the big battle in the previous volume. Asta is in a better state now, and there are a few new enemies moving around, including this crazy scientist lady. We get to know Gauche more, and see his blind devotion to his sister, which is just unhealthy. He's pretty much an uncaring jerk to everyone else. The volume ends with another mid-battle cliffhanger. This series seems to be using the theme of obsession, or maybe devotion?, a lot. Everyone is obsessed with becoming the wizard king and the rivalries. There's also a lot of one-sided love obsessions as well. Asta is convinced he will win over the nun. Gauche is obsessed with his sister. And now we see that Noelle is pretty much obsessed with Asta. The way that we see her following him around, very obviously hiding and watching him and getting jealous when he talks to other women, is outright stalking. She does it at least twice in this volume. It's rather unsettling, honestly.I don't mind this series, but I don't particularly like it. It seems very clearly underdeveloped in comparison to several other shonen series in this line alone. It's okay.A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much![Read more at my blog, Geeky Reading!]
