It was nice getting a bit more back story on All Might! Though parts of his past have still yet to be revealed. I'm also loving seeing all the characters grow in their abilities. Overall another solid volume!

Ok, finally reached a volume I didn't love. I'm also worried that a summer camp arc is coming up and I hope it's not predictable and/or boring. And why was it so easy to capture the Hero Killer? I thought for sure he'd last longer. 😕3.5 but I can't round up because I found parts of this slightly snooze-inducing. I might take a break and read something else for a bit and come back to this series later.

Another perfectly solid volume that dishes out some more backstory for a couple of characters. As a whole, it’s a slower book, but what story there was was still pretty exciting, and the ending was a tease, as usual.

This series has a good balance of hardcore high-stakes fights, humourous moments, and laid back scenes. Is so good. So very good. But I’m still mad about how the volume ended. So cruel. Another great installment in the series. I'm getting close to catching up to where the anime has reached for now. It'll be really interesting when I start reading stuff that I haven't seen before. Oh, and I absolutely love the random pages that have background on the characters or their outfits or behind the scenes details about the series. I just think it adds a rather cool element to the reading experience.Oh, and I read this as part of the Manga Madness Readathon.

It says this is Bakugo's origin story, but it's not mentioned until the very last chapter of the book?? I really like Kohei Horikoshi as an author after reading his little side notes. He really likes to delve deeper into his characters and come up with backstories even for super minor characters. I really like this series and I'm glad I finally decided to give it a chance. ♥ It says this is Bakugo's origin story, but it's not mentioned until the very last chapter of the book?? Again, great volume and I loved it from start to finish <3In this volume, the battle with Stain (who seems to be a little of an antithesis to All Might?) is concluded, and our heroes get away with minimal injuries (whoot!), before the aftermath is dealt with. There's also a little more hero training followed by a final exam for the first years; with a written test and practical test to see how they've progressed. I loved getting to learn some of the background behind the creation of One for A Again, great volume and I loved it from start to finish <3In this volume, the battle with Stain (who seems to be a little of an antithesis to All Might?) is concluded, and our heroes get away with minimal injuries (whoot!), before the aftermath is dealt with. There's also a little more hero training followed by a final exam for the first years; with a written test and practical test to see how they've progressed. I loved getting to learn some of the background behind the creation of One for All, and how it connects to a villain known as All for One, and also getting to learn a little more of why Bakugo is the way that he is.I look forward to the next volume, which should have the conclusion of the practical exam - especially the one for Bakugo and Deku which I'm sure will be GREAT. Chapter notes below for reference:(view spoiler)[Chapter 54. (view spoiler)[Looks like Iida’s having a bit of an identity crisis, poor guy 8’D--And he’s over it, whoot! All because he refused to let his friends be further injured as a result of his crusade c:--Teamworkkkkk. Combining all their abilities (both quirk and physical), both Iida and Deku (with the help of Todoroki) were able to get an AWESOME hit on Stain! (hide spoiler)]Chapter 55. (view spoiler)[Huh. Gran Torino’s ability is similar to Iida’s… Iida’s is basically like a powerful (car) motor engine, whilst Gran Torino’s is more of a “jet” - allowing for not only top speeds, but also really long jumps and such to the extent that it might seem like he’s flying. Wonder if there’s any relation… after all, there tend to be similar quirks within families, right?--Looks like Deku overdid it again - but not to the extent of a broken bone, PROGRESS!-Teamwork beat Stain, and they even have him all tied up! :D Didn’t even NEED saving by a pro - whoot! And just in time for the pro backup to arrive ;D --MIDORIYA’S BEEN ABDUCTED BY A NOMU :O--...A nomu that was just killed by a rather pissed off Stain, thus rescuing Midoriya. Didn’t see that one coming. (hide spoiler)]Chapter 56. (view spoiler)[Stain is a surprisingly idealistic killer tbh. Reminds me a little of Itachi Uchiha… only far more messed up 8’D--DON’T GO LOSING YOUR COOL (...heh) ENDEAVOUR. DEKU’S IN THE WAY.--Huh? Is Stain a former hero? o.O--...Is the dog chief of police also a animal that gained a quirk, like the headmaster of U.A? o.O--“Congrats on defeating the Hero Killer. You’re all in BIG TROUBLE for using your abilities to fight a villain in public though. BIG TROUBLE.”….what?--Basically, if you go “public” and say how the Hero Killer was apprehended, Deku and co. would need to be punished according to law, but so long as it’s kept private they’re good? Weird. (hide spoiler)]Chapter 57. (view spoiler)[News stories showing Endeavour as someone who “apprehended Stain when he was confronting several heroes and teenagers” 8’D--OH MY GAWD, LOOKIT KACCHAN. Best Jeanist is trying to make him RESPECTABLE *guffaws loudly*--Iida might have permanent damage? :o And it seems he’s going to purposely not let it be properly healed until he “succeeds in becoming a true hero”? Brave, but will there be unintended consequences as a result?--“One for All” is back again? Who’s that? Some polar opposite to “All for One”? o.O--Looks like we have a new League of Villains incoming. DUN DUN DUN. These ones all look REALLY NEAT too, so I’m excited! (hide spoiler)]Chapter 58. (view spoiler)[Huh. So Deku DID fracture his arm. Still, better than usual. --I would be reacting EXACTLY THE SAME to Bakugo’s new “look”. It’s AMAZINGGGG. Doesn’t suit him at ALL.--Oh wowie, lookit Uraraka o.O She’s definitely had some fire lit under her.--NO IDA. YOUR ARM IS STILL INJURED.--“Now keep the destruction of property to a minimum!” *points at Bakugo*XD--Ooh… Midoriya vs. Iida vs. Ashido vs. Ojiro vs. Sero (5-way race ;D) to see who can “rescue” All Might first. I love everyone taking bets on who will be first… ‘cept Bakugo who just says that Deku will be last. I feel that after his training with Gran Torino he has a pretty good shot though! --WHOO! GO MIDORIYA! Granted, he kinda tripped up at the landing and ended up coming last (...I think), but he’s still made a lot of progress! (hide spoiler)]Chapter 59. (view spoiler)[I completely forgot that Stain had injested Midoriya’s DNA… aka the DNA of “One for All”, the way that Midoriya got his ability. Good thing the ability can’t be stolen! 8’D--Waitttt… so the Nomu are people who were given quirks by “All for One” and couldn’t handle the ability in some way? o.O--Huh. So the All for One quirk came about by the One for All guy giving an (unwanted) “power stocking” quirk to his younger brother, who already had a quirk that allowed him to pass his quirk on to others (...which by itself, is a completely useless quirk XD), thus creating the rather super powerful “All for One”. Neat!--So All Might “destroyed” All for One… only he didn’t do it thoroughly enough so now the guy is back, and the hidden figure behind the League of Villains. --“Probably… when that day comes… I won’t be here for you anymore.” (/thought, not said - as it SHOULD HAVE BEEN)Saw THAT coming. --OH MY GAWD. All for One looks creepy AF. (hide spoiler)]Chapter 60. (view spoiler)[hehe. Yaoyorozu is the top academic student with Iida second? Makes sense. Pretty impressive that Bakugo scored higher than Deku though o.O--Kendo seems awesome! :D She’s the 1-B president, right? o.O--Bakugo’s back to his old pissed off self, yay! --Oh look. Rather than battling robots as expected for their final exam… they’re battling their teachers. All of whom are pro-heroes. Have funnnnnnnnn guys :P--And Deku & Kacchan are paired up together against All Might. This is going to be AWESOME. (hide spoiler)]Chapter 61. (view spoiler)[I love that all the pairings were decided to put the students at a disadvantage… as if fighting against pro-heroes wouldn’t ALREADY do that XD--So either incapacitate your opponent by placing the cuffs on them, or escape the arena and thus their grasp. Whilst I’m sure at least some of the teams will manage this, I’m curious as to HOW they’ll do so…--Asui and Tokoyami make a good team, they’ve got their strategy and communication down pat. That’s a good sign c:--Yep. Deku and Bakugo are at a DISTINCT disadvantage, solely as a result of their personality clashes. There’s no way in HELL they can get through this and succeed without learning how to work together. Which I have a feeling will take a WHILE. (hide spoiler)]Chapter 62.(view spoiler)[”You’re not the boss of me!”...Well this is going to be… swell--So Bakugo is determined to win, and be the best, at any cost… whilst Midoriya sees All Might as his idol and doewsn’t feel they have even the slightest chance against him in battle. Sounds about right. --I love these flashbacks to a young Bakugo. He 100% idolised All Might <3--HAHA. GO DEKU. PUNCH BAKUGO INSTEAD OF FIGHTING ALL MIGHT. THIS IS *GREAT*--“The strongest heroes… always win in the end.”That honestly explains a LOT about Bakugo and his refusal to ever give up, or let anyone be better than him. --WHOOOO TEAMWORK. WELL *DONE* (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

The fight against Stain continues! Now that the cavalry has shown up, Stain should go down easy, but it takes a full-on kick from Iida at the same time as a smash from Deku to get him to the point of being able to be tied up. Meanwhile, Endeavor and Gran Torino are in a fight with a Nomu, but after seemingly defeating it, the Nomu wakes and takes Deku.... who is quickly saved by Stain?! Only having his grudge against All-Might and pro heroes in general, Stain tries to show our 1-A Students that The fight against Stain continues! Meanwhile, Endeavor and Gran Torino are in a fight with a Nomu, but after seemingly defeating it, the Nomu wakes and takes Deku.... who is quickly saved by Stain?! Only having his grudge against All-Might and pro heroes in general, Stain tries to show our 1-A Students that his ideology isn't that far off from theirs. In recovery, Stain in jail, Deku, Iida, and Todoroki are met by the Chief of Police Kenji (who has a dog head). Provided that they are amenable to giving credit for Stain's defeat to Endeavor, he won't have to imprison them for acting without a hero license. Further aftermath:- Tomura Shigaraki laments over his contributions and that of Nomu being almost completely looked past on the news, the majority of it focused solely on Stain.- Iida has nerve damage in his hand. Though it can be corrected with surgery, he chooses to keep it as a reminder.- Gran Torino finishes his training with Deku. He also calls All-Might and warns him that "All-For-One" may still be alive and heading back into play as the power behind the League of Villains.Back at school, the next phase begins with All-Might for Foundation Hero Studies in a rescue/race. Deku, having fully grasped some control over his power, shows how incredibly fast he can be, gaining even more ire from Bakugo. Though Deku slips and falls, and doesn't win, everyone notices how greatly his control has improved.(Hilarious interlude! Mineta shows the guys in the locker room the existence of a peep hole, but when he goes to demonstrate how he can see, he gets stabbed in the eye by one of the jacks from Jiro's ears. LOL)Before the next class, All Might pulls Deku aside and tells him the story of All-For-One and One-For-All. He says that long ago during the Quirk phenomenon, society had not adapted to the idea of having Quirks, which caused an age of upheaval to arise; a man possessing a Quirk called All For One (a Quirk that can steal Quirks and grant them to the user or another) stole many Quirks and used his new overwhelming power and influence to gather and unify people under his command. All Might says that All For One can grant Quirks but those who were not able to handle the strain became brain-dead like Nomu. All Might tells Deku another story; the man (who would eventually become Japan's evil ruler) had a Quirkless younger brother; the man used All For One and forcibly gave his younger brother a Quirk that stockpiles power. However, the younger brother already had a Quirk, a Quirk that can transfer itself to others. The younger brother's Quirks (one that stockpiles power and the other that can transfer itself) merged and became One For All.Final exams are coming and all the students are worried! The written part (with help from some of the students in tutoring) is passed easily, but they had to change the physical part this year from battles against robots, to two students vs. 1 teacher. All the students are worried, and even more so when the matches are announced. Practical Exam Face-Offs of note:- The Principal versus Kaminari and Mina Ashido- Thirteen versus Aoyama and Uraraka - Ectoplasm versus Tokoyami and Tsuyu Asui- Midnight versus Sero and Mineta- Aizawa versus Momo and TodorokiAND..... All Might versus Deku and Bakugo! Those two have trouble working together, so All Might thinks they might be defeated easier, but the Volume ends with a trick that has Deku pulling a grenade pin on one of Bakugo's gloves that he is wearing. How will this battle turn out? How about all the other battles?Let the exams continue!

Kind of disappointing. The most interesting villain in the comic goes down way too easily. Then a new training test begins, which is entertaining if kind of dumb (given that the students couldn’t really prepare for the test because they had no idea what it would be, their ability to pass has very little to do with their learning and preparation it seems)Anyway, still entertaining. And I like the dog man and the fact his head is drawn really realistically.

Of the collected volumes, this is perhaps the best one yet. We see the end of the fight with Stain as well as the beginning of the one-on-one final exams. The art is gorgeous with Deku, Ida, and Todoroki finally fighting together against a common enemy with all their abilities on display. And then All Might punches Bakugo so hard that the latter throws up, so, you know, only good things.

It'll be interesting to see if him and Midoriya can get passed that long enough to work together, though. This is a fun series, and I do hope to pick up the next one soon.
