4 StarsBeautiful artwork and intriguing background information to the history, creatures and characters of the Witcher universe. The text sometimes is a bit dense but still interesting enough.

This book was really pretty, but the writing in it was really muddled and confusing. The writing wasn't sure of who it was aiming at. I think this book was SUPPOSED to be a lore primer for people who've only played the games. However, the narratives were choppy, skipped over important details in favor of minor ones, and left me confused. It doesn't work for people who have read the books either, because it's so vague. It doesn't really summarize what happened in the books/game. It reads like a drunk history professor's work. It's just all over the place. It skips around, and is written in an annoying Roleplay-esque "I'm a snobby elf, here's the history of you humans because you're too dumb to remember" voice. It fails at its purpose of gently introducing newcomers to the lore, and it fails at being a refresher to those familiar with it. This book just didn't know what it wanted to be: The Art of the Witcher or The World of the Witcher. The prose isn't good enough, isn't clear enough, to be a good intro to the lore. Wikipedia has much better summaries than this. And there's not enough art to call it an art book. Only reason I gave it three stars was because what little art is in it, is gorgeous. I regret that it isn't an art book. Next time CDPR wants to do a lore book, they need to STOP writing it in character. It doesn't help at all, and the elitist elven narrator just pissed me off. TLDR: if you want to get into the Witcherverse before playing the games, just read Andrzej Spakowski's books. Please don't waste your time with CDPR's because both of them are terrible and a waste of beautiful glossy paper. This book is NOT worth the $50 price tag. For that money, go buy the actual series and the three games.

Krom her, zde naleznete všechny potřebné informace z původní knižní ságy. Líbilo se mi i samotné zpracování průvodce, kdy jednotlivými kapitolami nás provází známé postavy. A určitě budete uchváceni i bohatými ilustracemi použité z herního světa.

Written as a fictional documentary, this is the most comprehensive summary of information on the Witcher franchise that exists. It is playfully presented as a publication by the character Dandilion as an informative text on his world with submissions from his friends and companions on the various sections and full of excerpts from in-world texts. The world history/geography/culture chapter is written in the perspective of Borch Three Jackdaws (I'm not even going to attempt to spell his dragon name from memory) with the amused and relatively impartial detachment of an outside observer. Vesemir covers the history and definition of witchers sounding like a storytelling elder (which I suppose he is a kickbutt version of). Yennifer discusses magic and religion with a lecture-style, academic professionalism. Geralt explains the various types of monsters, resignedly correcting common in-world misconceptions and freely telling what he thinks of the taxonomic decisions of scholars. And, in addition to prefacing each chapter in his humorous, self-aggrandizing style, Dandelion summarizes the story of Geralt, covering all the novels and short stories up through all three video games into a single cohesive narrative. So spoiler warning there. In addition the book is full of beautiful visual art from the novel covers and video games (concept art, in-game art, game advertising, etc.). This book is comprehensive, fun and a must read for any fan of the Witcher franchise.

I love behind the scenes/concept art books and without really looking, I thought that was what World of the Witcher was. Instead, it is more about the background of the video games with some game art sprinkled in. Fortunately, the background information is well-written and interesting. It is nominally from the perspective of Dandelion and Yennefer though it doesn't always sound like the characters actual voices. The information is totally unnecessary but if you like the world and characters of the Witcher, then it is a fun read and it will take some time to work your way through this book as the font is pretty small. The images are good but not quite as nice as I expected. I have seen many of them in promotions and game art but it is a nice reminder of how great the graphics and designs are in the Witcher. All in all, I enjoyed this book but was glad I bought it digitally as I wouldn't keep this book on my shelf with so many other books out there competing for that space. I'd recommend this if you want to see Witcher art or read about some of the background of the world. Other Witcher fans may find that this book isn't exactly what they were looking for/satisfying to read.

I spent a lot of time this past year playing Witcher 3 on the Switch. And now I'm in love. I like the story the author of the books created, but I especially love the storyline in the games. The entire universe is excellent. This book doesn't cover everything in the game. It mostly covers the basics - like a guide on major historical events, magic, non-humans, etc. More could have been added, but it would make the book much bigger than it already is.Along with info is a ton of art. I liked most of it. Some of it is just speed painting, the type of thing you see artists do on Instagram stories. Not sure if they were going for a rough look, but those paintings would have been much better had they been completed. Overall though, I really liked this book.

A beautiful book that any Witcher fan would enjoy just for the art. The actual content of it was not exactly what I imagined, as for some reason I was under the illusion this was more of a behind the scenes -type of book, but it's more of a primer on the lore of the Witcher world.Unfortunately the text is kind of disjointed and since it attempts to explain so many things at once, it skips over interesting details and doesn't really offer you that much if you're already familiar with the Witcher A beautiful book that any Witcher fan would enjoy just for the art. Excelente libro ilustrado. 5 Excelente libro ilustrado. This book is a great introduction before delving deeper into the game.I enjoyed the fact that Dandelion is supposedly the "author" of this book. However, I found chapter 5 being the most important part (or at least to me), containing the summary of the whole story and all the background information and side stories that must be known before playing the game. Also chapter 1 was a good introduction about the world, places, politics, lore and history of the world of the witcher.

Very pretty book, loved the artwork. A good summary of the games however very vague with no real direction or lead up to anything. It skimmed over a lot of things without properly categorising the different sections of the book or going into much detail. The design and layout wasn't the best either with sections being split by full spread artworks only to have three sentences on the following page before a new section.

This book is a good compendium for the development of the world and its different locations and creatures, but I feel it isn't quite as detailed where it should be, and is overly detailed where it doesn't need to be. The final chapter highlights the games and books, recapping the story of Geralt of Rivia. That chapter, along with the artwork, is probably the book's highlight.

This book is to The Witcher games what TWOIAF is to ASOIAF. It describes the world, the setting of Geralt's adventurers, it's monsters and Geralt's story itself, both from the books and all 3 games. Beautiful illustrations and the background it offers makes this a must read for Witcher fans!
